I love how the video just shows simplicity into making the fruit leathers, and the instructions and the tips and explanations were pretty clear. You make the process look so easy. I will be trying this out sometime soon and I hope that it will be just as successful as it is in the video
Thank you for the recipe, your video came up when I looked up fruit rolls and I'm looking forward to watching your other videos. I bought a dehydrator a few weeks ago and I'm so excited as I've been saving for it and a foodsaver machine for two years. By the way you have the cutest taste testers ever.
my grandma has a plum tree and we raided it last night (still barely put a dent in it) and i’ve got sooooo many plums to use up. luckily we have a dehydrator and i might even experiment with some other things to make with them. thank you!!
how do i make it so it is more soft. or even "MELT IN YOUR MOUTH" im only asking because my pa dont have teeth anymore and he needs to go onto a close as you can get sail free diet because he ankles and feet get big. i am trying to find many ways to make it easyer for my pa to eat better... (yes i take care of him. (90ish he is)
Thank you! A dehydrator found it's way into my kitchen after blanching a bunch of loquats a few days ago. Your video was the first one I clicked on and I'm excited to give it a go. Gonna hafta use parchment paper and oil since I don't have those clever inserts. If these come out good I might invest. Thanks again for the nice video!
Linda Weiss Good question! It's not technically needed, it does greatly improve the texture of the final product though. You could certainly try it without it and see what you think though.
could you use any veggies in this and if so what would you preferer i ask because im not big on veggies at all but when im at my claim i work hard and make myself eat veggies for more energy and thank you for your time on this great video
Hi thanks for the video - how long will they store? If I make 4 sheets, each sheet with 8 servings..essentially that is 32 Fruit Rollups - must I refridgerate? How long can I store? OK in pantry? thx
Thank you for putting an option in the recipe for using no sweetener. I am diabetic, so I have to watch my sugar intake, but snacks like this are needed for those times when my sugar is low, but I'm not in a complete crash, and I want to avoid the rebound where my sugar spikes real high too.
Mine came out crispy out of the dehydrator, but when stored it overnight in a tupperware it was fine the next day. I think I overdried it a little, but ti was still moist in places... I think I made them too thick.
Frugalgreengirl - I don't have a blender or processor, so could I cook the fruit on the stove + mash it to get it smooth before dehydrating into leathers? Please help as I have borrowed a dehydrator just for 1 week!
Thanks Frugalgreengirl! I see I am not using enough oil on my trays. Still learning... Once I forgot the oil completely. Hard lesson. But saved it by reconstituting and re-dehydrating. Great tip on the "Charlie Brown" peaches. Not real marketable, but perfect for Fruit-Roll-ups. Trying to learn this winter for the summers bounties. (Snacking on Honey Glazed Banana chips... My keyboard is sticky. 8^) )
You might be able to but there would be a certain amount of mashed grapes to put in and I'm not sure if the time to dehydrate them would alter. Using grapes sounds like a fantastic idea, though :)
Incredible as it sounds, I don't have access to applesauce. Can I replace it with something else? Or try and make homemade applesauce? Or leave it out?
thanks for the video... I bought a similar dehydrator with 5 racks (only one fruit roll tray thing) but got it at goodwill for $4.00 seems to work good... I am going to take my thermal camera and make sure it is matching the temperature on the temperature control knob. I had heard of jerky and stuff but not the fruit roll things they sound good... Im gonna get some more of the tray things so I can make more than 1.
Thanks for this video. This looks great. I might try it. My daughter takes a lunch to school and I'm always looking for healthy things to put in it. :-)
I used PAM for the oil and it completely ruined the taste. It was applied thinly and evenly, but it seemed to coat the fruit roll up and hide all the taste. Would a different oil do the same thing?
Hi there and thanks for your question. I just put them in a plastic zipper bag but any air tight container will work fine. They last like 2-3 months that way, no problem.
According to the Better Homes and Gardens special interest issue on canning (which fruit leather recipes,) you can store them at room temperature, which will last up to one month, refrigerate for up to three months or freeze it for up to one year.
Thanks for sharing. Are you using a spray on the plastic tray beforehand or just lining it with regular vegetable oil? I'm having serious problems with the fruit leather sticking once its done. Also, would you say you left it in there for 12+ hours @ 135 degrees?
+abdulah arby I saw a video where it was like 8 hours but it could take way longer or shorter.. Just keep checking it until its around where you think it should look.
This is a lot of work and expense for 2 fruit roll ups. Now I remember why I re-sold my first dehydrator (with fruit roll sheets). Why am I doing this again??
I haven’t made them, but the plum fruit roll ups my dad made were so much better than store bought. If I still lived close to those plum trees I would make them now.
Yea, I just got one as well and it is that way. As long as it closes and there is no gaps so that the air escapes you should be just fine. They are an awesome thing to have.
You think $2 a pound for peaches is expensive???? I'd buy a bushel at that price. Two weeks ago we were paying $6.99 for 8 peaches. Its come down a little bit since then but its still about $4 for 8 peaches.
"Scientists are now telling us zucchinis and pumpkins cucumbers are fruits now"... No.. they were ALWAYS fruits lol, thats not a new fangled fad they just came up with. The difference is, a fruit is a seed bearing structure a plant grows for reproduction. A vegetable, you're eating parts of the plant itself, its leaves, its roots, and stems.
So I have a question for you. What about times like last week when we had a solid week of overcast and rainy days forcasted and yet produce to preserve? The freezer draws power the entire time the food is in there until it is used. Canning takes more electricity then the dehydrator and the dehydrated food has better nutritional content. Is it better to just let the food go bad then but store bought stuff instead?
frugalgreengirl Hi frugalgirl. This was not meant offensive - so forgive me. It’s just : I am a engaged in solar cooking and solar drying also belongs to those simple solar technologies. It was just meant in a way like: haven’t you thought about using a solar dehydrator in the future? Yes, ok it maybe it sounded offensive but was not meant this way. Solar dehydrators are a perfect solution in a way because you will use them only in summer - when there is sunshine ^^ but of course you can have bad days or weeks even in a northern summer, so I would suggest a hybrid system would be the best. Forgive me lady - I like your videos, they are very good and inspiring and you are an interesting and very special person. I was especially inspired very much by your greenhouse video. Maybe I will tell you about it.
Scientific community has made up its mind and it's a fruit. You should be more aware of what you are saying when you make statements. en.oxforddictionaries.com/explore/is-a-tomato-a-fruit-or-a-vegetable/
way way way too expensive 16euro(20$) would get me at least 3 boxes of peaches (more than organic, untouched) if i had to collect them myself would cost me virtually nothing
I wish expert organic consumers would care enough to educate themselves on clean safe food before grabbing the banner of ignorance and continuing the stream of wrong information and emotion driven ferver down the road. It's just more simple and easy to be ignorant. Look up what the botanical definition of a fruit is.....sheeeeesh!
I'll give you a thumbs up for those adorable tasters!
I love how the video just shows simplicity into making the fruit leathers, and the instructions and the tips and explanations were pretty clear. You make the process look so easy. I will be trying this out sometime soon and I hope that it will be just as successful as it is in the video

Did you ever try?
Thank you for the recipe, your video came up when I looked up fruit rolls and I'm looking forward to watching your other videos. I bought a dehydrator a few weeks ago and I'm so excited as I've been saving for it and a foodsaver machine for two years. By the way you have the cutest taste testers ever.
Could you make like a green smoothie and then dehyrdate that into bars?
xd
Did you try it? Sounds much more palatable than the drink.
my grandma has a plum tree and we raided it last night (still barely put a dent in it) and i’ve got sooooo many plums to use up. luckily we have a dehydrator and i might even experiment with some other things to make with them. thank you!!
That was great. Going to go after my box of pears. I feel more confident to tackle this now, thanks for the video!
This was beyond helpful and fun- thank you!
Thank you so much. Your little taste testers are so precious 🥰
Thanks for the concise instructions, and your cute tasters! I’ve never done any type of dehydration so I look forward to trying it
What kind of oil did you use to spray on the sheets ?
do more videos on your dehydrator please!
how do i make it so it is more soft. or even "MELT IN YOUR MOUTH" im only asking because my pa dont have teeth anymore and he needs to go onto a close as you can get sail free diet because he ankles and feet get big. i am trying to find many ways to make it easyer for my pa to eat better... Thanks for sharing, I'm gonna try this tomorrow. By the way, you're tasters are the cutest😊
Did you put lemon juice in? Your camera was focused on the counter
How much lemon juice did you use? The camera cut the view there.
What kind of dehydrator you use?
@frugalgreengirl Why do you suggest to stay away from citrus? I want to make Grapefruit Leather. What do you suggest?
What about watermelon? or honey dew?
What's the name of your dehydrator? I was going to get a sodona !
why do we need apple sauce? why not just peaches? thank you!
Linda Weiss Good question! It's not technically needed, it does greatly improve the texture of the final product though. You could certainly try it without it and see what you think though.
So you wouldn't use dates, for example, for sweetening the fruit leather?
I ordered one online. I did not receive the fruit leather tray. The tray I received has diamond holes in it.
How much do Dehydrators cost?
could you use any veggies in this and if so what would you preferer i ask because im not big on veggies at all but when im at my claim i work hard and make myself eat veggies for more energy and thank you for your time on this great video
Hi thanks for the video - how long will they store? If I make 4 sheets, each sheet with 8 servings..essentially that is 32 Fruit Rollups - must I refridgerate? How long can I store? OK in pantry? thx
They will keep just fine for a couple months if stored in the pantry. No need to refrigerate.
If you were to use citric acid in the place of lemon juice, how much do you think is appropriate?
I'm glad to know I can leave it overnight. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for sharing! Great video! May I ask the name of your dehydrator? Thanks
Can you not use any apple sauce?
Thank you for putting an option in the recipe for using no sweetener. I am diabetic, so I have to watch my sugar intake, but snacks like this are needed for those times when my sugar is low, but I'm not in a complete crash, and I want to avoid the rebound where my sugar spikes real high too.
How much apple juice concentrate did you use ? You just kind of skipped over when you added it.
Mine came out crispy out of the dehydrator, but when stored it overnight in a tupperware it was fine the next day. I think I overdried it a little, but ti was still moist in places... I think I made them too thick.
try spreading it out a bit thinner

would love the recipe for the Honey Glazed Banana Chips
did you get autographs from the 2 movie stars at the end?
Thanks for making this video. What type of oil do you use on the tray?
Hello, good question. I prefer grape seed oil but most any oil will do.
+frugalgreengirl thanks much. I'll try that :)
what dehyrdrator is that, how much?
Your videos are such and informative pleasure! Keep up the good work!
Thank you for your encouragement!
frugalgreengirl
You are most welcome! I am moving to a homestead community in VA soon so I can't wait to try out the things in your videos once there.
Would I be able to do this with grapes?
You might be able to but there would be a certain amount of mashed grapes to put in and I'm not sure if the time to dehydrate them would alter. Using grapes sounds like a fantastic idea, though :)
What about like a grape jelly thinned down a bit?
Would pineapple work?
What about cherrys?
Incredible as it sounds, I don't have access to applesauce. Can I replace it with something else? Or try and make homemade applesauce? Or leave it out?
You can leave it out, it's an optional ingredient. The purpose is just to make the texture better.
thanks for the video... I bought a similar dehydrator with 5 racks (only one fruit roll tray thing) but got it at goodwill for $4.00 seems to work good... Where did u get your mats from plz? Mine didn't come with any 🫣
Good one . I think I am going to do it the same way.
How did you store them without sticking together?
Parchment paper in between
Has anyone ever tried to mix in vegetables like spinach or carrot?
is there anything that you could use to make these if you don't have access to a dehydrator or an oven
+Madison K. you can make them outside if its hot
+Valerie Hofmann OK thx
I have natural honey strait from the hive so it's not syrupy, will this still work?
Yes
even better
Thanks for this video. This looks great. I might try it. My daughter takes a lunch to school and I'm always looking for healthy things to put in it. :-)
I used PAM for the oil and it completely ruined the taste. It was applied thinly and evenly, but it seemed to coat the fruit roll up and hide all the taste. Would a different oil do the same thing?
I'm using Canola Oil and a paper towel folded small. But still learning how much so it releases well.
How to you store the ones that aren't eaten immediately?
Hi there and thanks for your question. I just put them in a plastic zipper bag but any air tight container will work fine. They last like 2-3 months that way, no problem.
According to the Better Homes and Gardens special interest issue on canning (which fruit leather recipes,) you can store them at room temperature, which will last up to one month, refrigerate for up to three months or freeze it for up to one year.
did you peel the peaches? you didnt say
Yes peel the fruit if you can
Definitely use any fruit or vegetable especially if your little ones don’t like eating green things
Thanks for sharing. Are you using a spray on the plastic tray beforehand or just lining it with regular vegetable oil? I'm having serious problems with the fruit leather sticking once its done. Also, would you say you left it in there for 12+ hours @ 135 degrees?
salevene I either rub oil on it or spray some on, depending on what I have at the time. If they are sticking for you, I would just use more oil.
Try laying down parchment paper. That way you just cut strips and roll it up once its done
You can make pumpkin spice fruit leather. But is not what flavor profile most people want in a fruit leather.
Love those little tasters.
What did u say about neem oil ?
The farmer sprays her fruit trees with neem oil for pest control.
Can I use wax paper?
Unfortunately no, the food will stick to it so badly it will become inedible. Well, unless you like the taste of wax paper...
How many hours needed !!!
+abdulah arby I saw a video where it was like 8 hours but it could take way longer or shorter.. Just keep checking it until its around where you think it should look.
i have that deyhigratef and food siscures
I have the same dehydrator, we’re drying fruit in the morning.
Edit: I’m back again. (9 months later)
Awesome!!!

Oooh~ apricot+dates+pumpkin...
Apples+sweet potatoes
"Delicious" so sweet
You know, I feel like my lid is a little loose. Is this normal? I just got it :)
Yea, I just got one as well and it is that way. As long as it closes and there is no gaps so that the air escapes you should be just fine. They are an awesome thing to have.
Oh ok. Great. Thanx for replying Ben Thomas :-)
Fruitveganful Martenson No problem !!

I'm going to go as fruit leather face for Halloween

I could get behind fruit brittle.
Veggies are delicious in fruit leather
I wouldn’t use oranges lemons limes, Nek minute puts lemon juice in it lol
please use a solar dehydrator! this is not an eco solution! dehydrating oyu will allways do towards the end of the summer where you have sun!
So I have a question for you. What about times like last week when we had a solid week of overcast and rainy days forcasted and yet produce to preserve? WHY NOT CITRUS!
Would you put it in a fruit salad? If no, not a fruit! 😆
(Might not be technically corr, but still right).
"nice and healthy too". LOL Not healthy but yes very delicious.
Need to work the camera better
uh, $2 per pound of peaches is insanely good. wtf.
How much do you pay the children to say that? Lol
"Some of them are better than the others and some of them are worse than the others " lol duh
So I don’t need them anymore
OMG child labor laws lol
Did you say that they “weren’t even certified organic”?!?! You’ll find me in my prepper shed...or will you? That’s some scary shit.
anything that grows from a flower is a fruit. ........elementry school biology. .......

Wow, I wish they were that cheap here :/ Next year Im just hoping we don't get the last frosts we had this year so our trees will produce.
Too much talking
