Being a 5th generation Texan living in Austin, I like the "Texas" classification, but what's more important is that he's recognized. I've been listening to him since the '70s and have never heard a bad recording or seen a bad performance. He's a true master and a Texas treasure even though he's now in Nashville.

Also, he could recognize some value in the work of those two mainstreamers you mention. At least, that's how I get him. As a GC fan, I recognize many of the same elements in their stuff, Tim in his sentiment and Taylor in her songwriting fidelity. I like them all.
