This talk was part of Skepticon 7, November 21-23 in Springfield, MO.

You're wrong. God does exist. He is the God mentioned in the Bible. He is real and is complete love. I had a personal experience of being in His Presence when I prayed once to God to be with me. Repent and ask Jesus to wash you of your sins and follow Him to be saved from hell and enter Heaven. We cannot enter Heaven in our sinful state.

I worship my parents. My Mom and Dad. Who's given me life, who's fed me, nourished me when I was sick, wiped away my tears and held me when I was emotionally torn and made sure through selfless acts that I live this speck of time happily. I can not worship a god who wish to turn son's against their father, daughter against their mother. There is no evidence that god made me but there are records that my Mother gave birth to me. So yeah, I have a very good reason to worship my parents. No religion can ever convince me otherwise.
Appreciate? Yes.
Respect? Yes.
Honor? Yes.
Love? Oh yes , yes!
But worship?
I think a balanced view is more appropriate. I've recently begun to think critically about the way I was raised. I disagree with much of what my folks taught me. It only makes me appreciate them more. There's no room for this kind of exploration when you're into "worship," I would argue.

No, this story is about punishment. It reveals the vindictive character of this god and he is not compassionate at all. He is not good at all. He is so evil you have to believe in his goodness, you have to lie to yourself to believe this fictional character is good. I do think he gets the big picture and far better than you. Often victims of abuse, be it self inflicted or by others do not realize it. Only when outsiders point this out they realize something was actually horribly wrong. Self-deception after all is just another coping mechanism for survival.

Yet there is nothing, nada, anything to prove any of this happened. It is just after all folklore of some nomadic desert people(s). Localized floods have always happened which are the basis for this myth, but there has never been an extinction event on the scale that your religion wants there to have been.
Just think about it for a second. Your religion teaches that its deity massacred everyone, because he couldn't fix what was broke. His final solution (you can google final solution) was to kill everyone, because that made it all better. He couldn't talk any of these people down or turn them away from their ways, no, they all had to die.
Have you just thought why this story exists? Because it is just a story and the people that originally heard it and made it up knew better. It was something that mothers and fathers would tell their sons and daughters like the tooth fairy. It is just like Santa Claus, Father Christmas, Sinterklaas or the dozens of different names he is known as. Yet you don't believe those exist, because you know they are just stories. If we were ignorant of the natural world for the next few hundred years or a thousand or more and religious rigid doctrine would take hold then perhaps Santa Claus could be elevated into divinity and he would forever punish all the naughty children for their bad deeds.

I still thank god, Jesus, and the holy spirit everyday for food, water, shelter, and clothing. I say amen, but I don't believe. It just reminds me to stay thankful and grateful because I never know. Jesus even said, give thanks in everything. And one of my favorite versus that took me 32 years to finally understand is, "Therefore, there is now NO condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus." So if he's real, he knows that I am living my life free from religion, cults, and AA, NA programs. There is no freedom in any of those. Be you, be transparent, screw what others think, and you'll be good to go. It took me 32 years, but hey, what can I say. I'm human.

This speech was wonderful in portraying the hypocrisy of religion. I wish every kid could watch this as part of a course in skeptical thinking (which should be one of the first things we teach our children and is, sadly, the one thing we don't).
I was lucky that my kids were smart enough to pick up on my cynicism and skepticism. They're both non-believers like dear ol' mom and dad.

Actually there are laws of God (not nature) that have been set in motion in creation. Gravity for example, if you jump off the Grand Canyon you will fall to your death. God gave you, (his klump of clay) instructions on how to come back in harmony with him. He provided a way. Jesus Christ!
But he gave you free will. So if you want to jump off the Grand Canyon you are free to do so. I think that the fact that we're here is an amazing achievement of nature.
The progress that's been made bit by tiny bit over billions of years , as the universe became what it is , is humbling and awe inspiring.
But , if god created all of this , then it becomes UN-amazing , it's a pathetic waste of '' omnipotence ''.
If you're magical and all powerfull , why should your creations rely on circulatory systems , nervous systems , DNA , be dependent on messy sexual reproduction , surviving by violently consuming one another ?

3) Most likely from non-eyewitnesses
B)) Even if they were eyewitnesses that doesn't actually help the case at all (see false memories and unreliability of eyewitness testimony)
4) Weren't written as history (the name Gospel - meaning "good news" - should be a clue)
5) Contain events which are found nowhere else (e.g. Jewish zombies wandering around)
6) Written trying to fulfil prophecy
7) And contain events that no-one could possibly have known about.
One more point to consider is that they weren't written as historical narratives and the name Gospel was just a hint to give to people as to why that was.
So let's take one example - the birth of Jesus in Matthew and Luke. They: 1) Don't actually agree with each other about what happened
2) Contain events that have never been recorded anywhere else
3) Written in a way to confirm prophecy etc.
So it is clear from reading the nativity that they aren't intended to write about what exactly happened, but instead written like it is trying to match up with the Old Testament in order to convince people Jesus was the son of God (aka the "good news").
Ever notice how god is hung up on certain numbers, for example 40? It rained 40 days and nights during the flood. The Hebrews wandered 40 years in the desert. Moses was on Mount Sinai for 40 days receiving the Ten Commandments. Hell of a long time for a god to do only ten items.

The writer was obviously not speaking of Christians in some distant future, but of believers in his day including himself.
There is no good reason to read “we” as if it refers to Christians alive thousands of years in the future.

I believe that the universe is 6500 years old, and the vast amount of direct evidence contradicting that is just a test of faith.
