A Palliative Approach to Caring for the Elderly

Many people associate palliative care with end-of-life, but a palliative approach to care should be started earlier in the course of a serious illness or declining health. A palliative approach to care provides opportunities for people to make decisions about future healthcare, leads to better quality of life, and gives assurance and support to families and caregivers along the way. The following video explains a palliative approach to care for older adults in Nova Scotia. It was produced by student nurses at Dalhousie University in response to an expressed need for public awareness about this important topic.
