Pembrokes have been bred to heard cattle. That gives them the odd combination in the temperament of being both bold and wary at the same time. Yes they do weird things with that dichotomy. My girl was the best watch dog I have ever owned. Her ability to sense novelty was almost uncanny. I learned early never to ignore her barking. Something was always up when she barked.

One weird thing I’ve noticed has to do with food. Whenever I give my Corgi a treat and it’s something where she might not be sure if she likes the texture or maybe she hasn’t had it before, she’ll always take it in her mouth, bring it into the other room, and roll around on top of it. What’s even funnier is that she will immediately stare at you with a super embarrassed look on her face if she sees that you caught her.

Omg, my corgi does most of these things too. One strange thing is my corgi gets so freaked out by opening and closing windows/blinds. And when he wakes up from his naps he makes it a point to walk in front of me and start stretching and letting out a dramatic whine for attention...

My Corgi, Moxie, pretty much everything yours does. I had to buy a special feed bowl with bumps in it so that she can't inhale her food and choke on it! I also noticed " the Corgi noises ", different from any other breed I have owned. When she runs, plays tug, or almost anything at all, she makes these short little burst of noises, like uh,uh,uh, uh! So funny. Quite the conversationist! Lol

My Eevee has the sixth sense thing too! My parents (her Lolly and Pop) live 3 hours from us, and she always frantically starts whining and pawing when we're pulling into their gated community. So weird!
She also licks hands a ton too! As well as leaving wet spots. That's a bit of a relief because I was worried she had anxiety or something.
She also stares at me when we walk. I have so many videos of her glancing back. 😂
Eevee doesn't poop in the middle of the road, but when I let her out in our back yard, of ALL spots she chooses our small cement walk way. AND when we go on walks like at the park, she poops multiple times. I have to bring so many bags. 🤦
Thanks for sharing your sweet Chibi! 😊

Might not be relatable for everyone depending on where you live, but one hilarious thing I’ve learned from my corgi this Winter is how much he LOVES the snow. We’ve had a few snowy days this year and he gets SO excited about it every time. Even in a borderline blizzard where the snow is as deep as his short little legs.... he is ALL ABOUT exploring/playing in the snow. He’ll run around and hop about like a bunny rabbit and try to burry his face in it... and he’ll sprint with his mouth hanging open trying to catch snowflakes as he’s running 😂😂 it’s so funny. It seems that a lot of smaller dog breeds generally hate snow and some will barely even go potty outside if there is snow on the ground but not my corgi.... he can’t get enough of it 😂. I’m wondering how many other people with corgis can relate to this??

I’m on my second Corgi. My first Corgi (Itchy) was a rescue and the only weird thing he did was that he didn’t like to get wet. He wouldn’t go out in the rain to pee, he would do it right at the corner of the patio. He also hated getting his feet wet. If we were on a walk and there was a puddle or a little stream of water running on the sidewalk he would either jump over it or walk all the way around it. My second corgi and the one I currently have (Bentley) does the wiggling on his back, he also sleeps under my bed at night or takes a nap under it during the day. If he is laying on the floor or on the couch and I suddenly make eye contact with him, he jumps up and comes running over to me barking. The other thing Bentley does is bark for apparently no reason. It can be completely quiet and out of nowhere he will bark as loud as possible. It scares me to death.

  • @JohnTubbsMB

You missed one that was on your screen almost the whole video - sleeping on the top/back of a couch. Our Corgi did this immediately when we brought her home. She would jump up on the regular sitting part of the couch, but then very easily and accurately jump up onto the back of the couch. At first we were worried she's fall off, but she was just like a cat in doing it. We figured it was to have a better vantage point to keep an eye on the two of us without a whole lot of moving around needed. Our couch wasn't against a wall, so she had to balance herself without any wall to help.

I am highly convinced that after week 9 when they get the basic command of sit, stay and know their names, they download all t he data from there. Corgi's are super smart and manipulative. Couple days they would listen to every command and then the next they decide they don't want to. Mine shrugs and looks the other way or just lays down. Until I actually took away his space for being bad, he would literally wait sometimes, looks at me and pees. This is after 3 straight days of showing me he can go on command and runs near the door whenever he needs to go. Just today he washed his paws in his bowl. Really digging in there. Takes one paw out, looks and then back in until he sees fit. I think this is due to having a playpen near a kitchen. I see where he gets it from. When I wash the dishes and clean my hands. 12 weeks old and hes scary smart that I wake up every morning now thinking its a chest match between us.

My corgi also likes to take her naps on top of the couch like how Chibi was in the video! Paw hanging and everything haha. Also agree that they are dramatic and plotters. We were folding clothes in the room once and all of a sudden we look up and see Chloe crouched down, walking slowly, before jumping and running to snatch a sock!
Now that she has learned the concept of fetch she will constantly bring the ball over and start whining if we don't play with her. She also remembers where the ball is at all times a few days later. If the ball is stuck somewhere she will run over and whine until you follow her to get it. They truly are special little dramatic weirdos~

THIS!! This is what i was waiting for! Our corgi does the same thing on the edge of our sleigh bed! He's done it since he was a puppy. We were terrified he'd fall and would always rush and grab him and put him back down on the bed, but he loves walking across the edge, or laying splayed out across it with his little legs and head hanging off the edge. It's his favorite sleeping position! Our other dog doesn't do this!

  • @ItsmeJuliaB

OMG!! I literally thought Calvin was the only dog that slept on the top portion of the couch (like a cat) but Chibi is doing exactly the same thing, stub hangin out and all, in the background. Is this also just a corgi thing? Cause I seriously thought it was just a Calvin thing, but obi it's a Calvn & Chibi thing!
Calvin also obsessively licks my hand, but he also loves to lick feet. I think it came from him using my feet as a pillow while I worked at my desk when he was a baby. He would sleep on my feet (leading back to the previous video of corgis using pillows, or anything to prop their head, he still uses my feet as a pillow whenever he gets the chance) and he just became used to my feet maybe? He also keeps his eyes on me when we walk. Even if we're hiking and i let him off his leash, he will always run ahead, and while running he will keep checking back to see I'm still there until I guess he's decided he's far ahead enough , which is only far enough that I'm not out of eye sight and then stop and stare at me like he's taunting me for taking so long.

My baby boy Osaka (he passed in Feb 2018, two months shy of 13 years) would rub and roll in the snow like Chibi does in the sand there. He did the one leg Sploot too. The boy always slept in front of closed doors, never his bed, my bed, couch. Nope. Always on his back and in front of closed doors. When I would watch tv, he would sit in front of me and I had to scratch his chest with my foot or he would grumble/bark at me. He would do this weird grumble, grunt bark like he was trying to tell me something important. A weird thing he did was he barked and attacked vacuums until one day I decided to use the hose on him as he would always look at the hose. And that is all he wanted. Osaka wanted to be vacuumed. He would lay there as I vacuumed his side for a few minutes. The General (his other nickname) hated wheels or circular motions. He barked at ceiling fans and would spin in circles "chasing" them, would bark and run at bicycle wheels. If my younger siblings were playing loudly with toys or whatever, he would get mad and bark. I dubbed him the, "Fun Police." He never cuddled with me but would act like the biggest flirt with women. Osaka would lay down and lovingly look up at them as he was getting attention. I miss him dearly but he was the weirdest animal I ever owned and I have pet pigs.

I've had a lot of (non-corgi) dogs, and a lot of smart dogs. The difference between most of them and my corgi, is that they tended to be reactive, while my Corgi actually thinks. All the time. There is a lot going on in that little brain. And when she walks in a room, any room, she doesn't enter quietly. She busts in, with her ears pricked and her chest out, as if to say, "I don't know what's going on in here, but now that I'm here it's gonna stop." And she then proceeds to back it up. We have friends who have two Bichons. When they come over there's a lot of barking and chasing, with the Bichons trying to get away from her. The male is a bit of a bully, but he's terrified of the corgi. One time they were visiting and things were unusually quiet on the dog front, so I went to investigate. The Corgi had herded the Bichons into the back of a small dog crate, and was hunched down making sure they didn't even think about leaving. Special dogs for sure.

I've had two Corgi sisters for 10 years now. The one is the right size the other is a runt. She always looks cute.
They both share some of the quirks you've shown. The Big Girl runs around crazy if I've been gone for an hour or more. She runs around and around pulling the blankets from their beds and barking. I stop to pet her and she makes grunting noises the whole time. When she wants something she uses a high pitched bark that is difficult to ignore. She eats fast and anything you give her is fine. She sleeps all around the house. The bathroom floor mostly. She wraps her head around the base of the bowl. She also sleeps in one of three dog beds. She refuses to be groomed. She'll bite you. She gets mad because I pulled out the clumps of loose hair. They're so tiny and sticking out but doesn't like them pulled.
Her sister is more reserved but occasionally gets all worked up but mostly or my wife. She wiggles along the floor her sister doesn't. She is very picky about food. Everything is scrutinized and then taken gingerly between her front teeth. She turns most things down. She is a hand licker but sometimes licks the rug. SHe is the watchdog. She walks around the back yard along the fence from one end to the other and sniffs everything. Very protective and guards her yard.
A word about another dog. I had a Corgi/German Shepherd mix. She had markings of both breeds and short Corgi legs. A beautiful Shepherd tail. And very intelligent. Both breeds are but the mix was really intelligent.

My parents Corgi, (Tucker), who crossed the rainbow bridge in October of 2020 @ 14, would do all of the behaviors mentioned in both videos. He also a did a few that weren't mentioned but I've seen other Corgis do, and I'm not sure if it's happenstance or it's a "Corgi thing"
He wasn't a fan of walks, and when he had enough he would just lay down on his stomach and wouldn't budge for anything.
He wasn't a fan of my parents leaving and having a babysitter. Several times when my parents returned home, they would call his name. He would intentionally ignore them, until they would ask him to "come down here," as he would always find his way upstairs, to their room. When he stopped ignoring them and would look right at them, he would intentionally lift his leg up, and urinate on the floor.
Also, (although I haven't seen or heard of this as often as the previous behaviors), he would get a treat for moving his bowels, (as a lot of times it seemed like he had to go to the bathroom, but really he was being nosey), and several times he acted like he had a BM, kicked up the grass with his hind legs and circled around so you didn't really see his BM. Well, he never went, he was trying to take it for some treats.
I really miss that dog. He was definitely odd, but also definatly very loveable.

emwng yes!! I tell everyone who asks me “what is it like having a corgi?” to imagine living with a creature that both melts your heart from cuteness and makes you laugh out loud by their sheer weirdness on a daily basis. They’re so lovable and so entertaining

Mine licks my feet and hands (hands a lot if I just ate food)
On walks my Eevee (corgi) also looks up often at me while we walk. As for intersection poops she doesn't do it at all mostly on sidewalks and dirt often.
If I say snack, my corgi runs to her bed and just waits and smiles at me. I sometimes take her to Central Park to off leash and I do laps on my e-scooter while my corgi runs alongside of me. It's very cute and good for their herding skills.

Henry does the one-legged sploot, sleeps w his eyes open, & circles me when; I lift him into car, & coming into the house, & I have to go 1st. He we I'll continue to stare at me when he wants to go outside, & waits for me to get up fr. eating where he will comb the area for any crumb that might have been left behind. And I love him for it all. ♥️

My corgis do a few of these. My own sleeps with her eyes open. I always figured she was just laying there awake until she started snoring. My other corgi is an obsessive licker, except it's feet. I never thought of the sploot as a unique corgi king. I grew up around keshonds and they do the same thing.

Our corgi Cleo refuses to poop in our ward. She goes around the corner to a ditch and goes there, then when we go on a walk she proudly shows it to us. Cleo doesn’t paw at us if she wants more attention, she sticks her very cold nose on whatever piece of bare skin she can reach. If that doesn’t work she will climb right on your lap. Cleo is a service dog and has been trained to do pressure as a way to calm me, wish I’d never taught her that, lol, when not working she uses it to get attention, even from my husband.

My corgi barks at the television when there's a dog on the screen - even a cartoon dog. If we're watching the Westminster Dog Show, Murphy will sit on the couch and stare at the TV. When a commercial comes one, he runs around to the back of the TV and barks, looking for the dogs. The other day, I was watching King of the Hill (animation) and Murphy sat in front of of the TV and barked at the cartoon dog. My other dog, an Aussi, has never done this.

Our corgi Bandit did the same thing....any animal she would bark at on the TV. She did not care about people, but as soon as an animal ( real or animated) appeared onscreen she would start barking.

  • @deetsm29

    Omg, many similarities!
Sleeping with eyes half open - check!
Demanding pats with paws - check!
Eats her meals as if we starved her for days- check!
Poops in the middle of the road - check! (I've had to apologise numerous times to oncoming drivers, sometimes we even just carry her across the road to avoid her from stopping)
Mine used to do the full on split sploot but ever since we spayed her, she has stopped splooting.
Never a dull day with a corgi. Haha!

So, I just got my 1st corgi. She is very vocal about everything. we had a discussion about how her barking hurts my ears and we have to find a better way to communicate. She started to bark less and "cuter" with groans, whines, woo-woos. I tried to get her to ring bells to go out...she doesn't seem to get it yet. She is only 6 months so... She also does this weird thing with food. She does a head motion round the bowl - almost like she is moving food around on the floor next to the bowl?? Anyone elses' dog do that?

My corgi is 7 month old today and she still do the double sploot, she poop 4 times a day (at each walk), she also sleep with her eyes open (always creepy).
What is funny with my corgi is that she wake me up at 7am each day to go for a walk so I decided to not put my alarm anymore haha

  • @triggamusician

My corgi doesn't like splooting. It's so sad. Most other things in the video she does too but she only looks at me during a walk if I have treats or a ball with me. If not, I'm not interesting and she's gonna sniff through the whole area. Can be very annoying. She was not potty trained to poop on grass or dirt but she taught that herself at some point only to forget about it later and poop in the streets again, barely on the road but she tries sometimes. I'm also glad to hear you dog poops often too. The longer the walk the more often she's going to poop.

  • @elgenius7536

Haha. It's all true. Kiba gets upset when she doesn't get what she wants and just lays there, staring at me. She's 9 months old.

Our Corgi basically does all these things (except the one-legged sploot) but the main item is how aggressively she eats and then will go after our other dog's food. We have to get between the Corgi and the other dog so he can finish, and then she will lick his bowl for several minutes after he's done. She acts like she's starving to death. Corgis are so damned weird!

    1. Yes.
    2. No, not my case. Gwen gets bored very quickly in a car and either fall asleep or start wining. On the bus on the other hand she's always excited because there's so many new people to meet.
    3. Sure. Both.
    4. Oh, so that what it means.
    5. Yeah, paw or nose.
    6. No, not my case either.
    7. Well, not really, Gwen does this but only when she's in the mood.
    8. Checking often, but it's never like looking at me non-stop, except when she want's my attention.
    9. Well =) Not in such dare situations, but yes. My theory is that she just prefer flat surface where nothing is poking her bum. Gwen's quirk is that shell take the pose as if she's about to poop and then start scooting around keeping the pose, as if she's searching for a perfect location o_O

Pippa understands when we're close to home, by car. She wakes up and starts looking at scenery. It's a wagon so she travels at back of the car. Sploot, or what ever is normal for all dogs. Like my childhood welsh terrier. He did that all the time.

    • @MBuliveivari
      @MBuliveivari Год назад

Yes, Pippa runs around and forward and back when getting ready to go out. It's normal? She knows she's getting out.

    • @MBuliveivari

Pippa also devours her food. Also, she would never allow the other dog to finnish. She would overpower that other dog and eat it's food also .
