There is actually a sixth egg as well as the five shown, but I decided to leave it out since not only would it mess up the "five" theme, but it's also very boring. If you climb into the mine cart while on Crater Island, there's a hotspot on one screen (the one facing the slide?) which causes you to silently fall down the slide. I guess this qualifies as a Riven egg because it's only available when the other eggs are unlocked as well, but it's boring and doesn't compare to the others.

The 5th egg has to be my favorite one. Gehn's opera is just priceless.
You know this brown egg in the shelf of Gehn's room always seemed suspicious to me. When I was wandering around I always came back to that drawer. Why would the cursor disappear like that? I put it down to a glitch. I solved the game never thinking about it again. Now to see that absolutely nothing in this game was random makes me respect it even more. Wow.
Oh my god, I had the biggest grin on when Gehn started singing. That's the best easter egg you could have in Riven, haha.

I never knew Riven had easter eggs. It must have taken some serious dedication to find those.

There was a series of online clues in the form of poems that cryptically provided each location. Of course the site has long since been taken down.
Gehn singing = Epic win
So that is why my mousecursor disappears if I clicked on that egg... i was so confused about that.

I remember that egg doing that, but I never knew its purpose. These easter eggs were put in so that the poems about the game, which were on the internet when it was brand new, could be integrated to encourage the people to try out thier website. The eggs are monstrously hidden and completely riddled to both find and unlock, but that's dedication for you, even if the pay off is poor. Thanks for the vid, it was interesting to revisit this game. :)
The Silly Putty one and the one with Gehn singing are the best!
Just look at Gehn's face in the final clip. The actor is clearly struggling not to laugh.

Neat! That's cool they preserved the riddles.
But I'm pretty sure in the old days that there was a sequence of challenging puzzles you had to solve just to see each riddle. They made the whole egg hunt an incredibly difficult experience.
I was worried the Steam version of Riven wouldn't have the Easter eggs, because the hand didn't blink out for a second when I clicked on the required items. Thankfully, though, it did come with the Eggs. 👍
there's a shortcut on the first time you enter Riven: Click the broken lever when exiting the cage, turn to face the cage, look up, click the star on top, turn around till you face the cliff, go towards it and look down to see the guard (AKA "Cho"). You're supposed to click his body in certain spots, but I can't remember the order. All I know is that you MAYBE start with his dagger (far right), then head, holster, then his hands and left knee. Last, hit the RAWA, and you're done.
wow i remember this game, i wish youtube was out when I played this as a kid, I had to get the thick book on Riven just to beat this game, cause it was so hard to beat without it

Although the screen with the cage is displayed, you have not actually changed locations. You interact with the screen as if you were still in the bedroom. For instance, clicking on the left side of the screen will count as clicking on the ladder.
Coincidentally, the center of the bedroom tapestry lies in the same part of the screen as the light on the cage screen. So clicking on the light plays the egg over again.
There is another place that behaves just like other hotspots.It's the cage where you start the game.If you click the star-shaped object on top of it, pointer will also disappear for a second.
I've been wondering about that hotspot since I was a kid.
@modrozelenaalga9607 Maybe there's another set of Easter Eggs in Riven, unlocked by clicking another set of random spots in the game, the top of the cage being one of them, that no one's discovered, even as to this day/age!

Looking for more info on the door that was removed before release. Its in the early part of the game, and kind of shadowed out in the official release, but if you do some colour manipulation, you can still see it.

The font is almost unreadable.
The ocean looks like cheese! I figured this out with help from the web, and the videoes weren't what I thought they would be. At first, I got to helper #2, then screwed up by clicking on the cell door. Also, did you know that with a small program called "Riven Picture Viewer", you can see a drawer of dead moths or butterflies underneath the egg one? Now that's pretty.

I've read about a 6th easter egg, where you click on the minecart's coupling on the factory island, which apparently replays the "sliding down the chute" cutscene. I haven't checked it out yet though.
In any case, I found a curious inconsistency in the game, which I now think might be connected to something after all. There are two diagrams which show the pipes connecting the domes to the great dome. One is on the guardrail when you enter the dome from the rotating room, the other in Gehn's notebook in the lab. Both are different images, but they are consistent in the pipe order.
However, when I checked the pipes directly, I found that the pipes connecting to the temple and prison domes were swapped. How could two different diagrams be wrong in the same way ? I've been told that it's just an error, but that seems even more unlikely now. It's not like it would've been hard to fix either. Strange...

Never mind. I figured it out. The underwater sub was somehow put back in its original spot. You have to go back and lower it again, then go back to the control tower (That's what I call it, anyway).

For every game that doesn't run in DOSBox (a free DOS emulator that can record videos), I hook my computer up to my TV through an S-video connector, and hitch that up to my camcorder. It's very impractical I know, but it gets the job done.
If you, unlike me, have a computer that's decently fast, you can try downloading a screen capture program such as HyperCam, CamStudio (free), or Growler Guncam. They all slow down my computer though, so that method won't produce any watchable videos for me.

I just viewed the commercials in the video egg. Nice ones. And I commented about the egg here on them. the commercials were actually used to test Catherine's movements in her cell. did you know that?
@shadyparadox Cyan kind of invented the ARG, as far as I know. I remember the "Spyder" website that tracked the development of Riven, much like Zandi for Uru.

There was one more you didn't show. At some point while playing the game, you unlock an image of someone's baby I think it was? (It's been a long time) that appears on the side of the cliff near where you looked down and seen the body of that guy at the beginning of the game. It will suddenly appear sometime in the game, if you go back and look, you will see it on the side of the cliff. I assume the loved ones of someone that worked on the game.
There is no special way to unlock it like t his, it just appears sometime during the game. I'm not sure what you have to do to make it show, just keep playing normally and check back once in a while.
Yeah yeah yeah, when the cave entrance to the Golden Room is not open, three kids faces show in the rocks. They’re the kids of the developers. Also, two more kids on the cliff-like formation to the left of where the game starts. You have to look up once you look at the cliff though, I think.

What's with that cartoony bounce sound at the end of the opra? My game doesn't do that. Wait, is that sound only on the dvd version?
I know it weird, but these broke the game for me. You see, I was utterly obsessed with Riven and its lore, It took me years of exploring to finally get the good ending and I would play the game so much feeling it alive.
Then I tried the easter eggs and Riven suddenly became a video game for me, I felt dirty and the easter eggs felt out of place.
So yeah.
That’s kind of sad. At the end of the day it was always a video game made by a bunch of people who put their heart and soul into it. I hope you can appreciate how immersive the game is while simultaneously understanding that is just a game that iwas made by people who put a few Easter eggs in to show some fun behind the scenes stuff.
You have the game called OBSIDIAN? Well, I want to take the animation file of the Temple Island MagLev tram, and paste it with 3 prerendered images of an industrial factory in-game, flying over its interior and ending up at a high platform. There is an animation file from a cable-car in game...so boring, but I want to turn it into a Maglev ride. The car rotation is hardest. any advice? Oh, and I read somewhere that the sailor video was a test clip for the Catherine animations in her prison cell.

Yep, it turns out that you can, but it’s kind of annoying without a cursor.

I understand that you're working on project red pants (whatever it is) and that you and Dilandau3000 had to split up the series (to some degree, or so I've heard from other commenters). However, Dilandau3000 did Myst masterpiece and Exile as well. If he did the two games that you did then can't you do a Let's Play of Riven? I know you're busy working most likely but I thought you ought to know that there are plenty of people who would love to see it.
I may or may not LP Riven someday, but my reasons for skipping it have more to do with the fact I specifically wanted to cover Myst III than anything else. Other RUclipsrs aren't really a factor.

@@CalDal_22 It's possible. I have some other videos I want to make first though. Besides, I would prefer to use the Starry Expanse version when it comes out, since a 3D environment allows for more creativity in presentation.

There's a Easter egg not on here, it's a hidden messege in the whark watching room that says "this job sucks" it's shown in the beginning of this Easter egg video below but other than that I can't find it ANYWHRRE, and it's only in the beginning of the video for like 2 seconds. Anyone know how to activate this one?? I tried everything

It looks like that message has a different resolution than the game capture footage around it, so my guess is it was edited into the video.
