@@digitaldjtips Thanks for your honest review Phil! Just ordered the CDJ1000, can't wait to get started with this new 'dj' chapter. Hopefully Pioneer will watch with us and give you also some of the turnover;) I'm subcribed to your channel!
Thanks for another great vid...This is a desperate attempt by pioneer to distract the ovation prime 4 is getting. Thank God some manufacturers are listening to give DJs what they ask for at decent price.
I've been using the Traktor Kontrol S4 for the last 8 or so years and have loved it but think its time for a change. As I play a lot of house and techno, I often use the Delay T3 effect, you could say made famous by Richie Hawtin. Does anyone know if something is similar on DDJ800 or 1000 and in Rekordbox? On the effects channels on the Kontrol S4, you have 3 seperate knobs which can manipulate one effect. So you can increase the delay, then increase the rate also. is this possible on these controllers? Thanks
Are the phono preamps same as in the DDJ-1000? Those in DDJ-1000 are REALLY bad for playing analog vinyl. Official statement from the official Pioneer mod in the pioneer forum about the issue: "To be perfectly honest, they [the phone preamps] are not intended for vinyl playback. The phono inputs are primarily for DVS timecode input. I know you're thinking "but what's the difference?" and the answer to that is the quality doesn't need to be as high if it's just for DVS input. ... It's not a DJM-quality mixer -- a single 4-channel DJM is more than the cost of the entire DDJ-1000, so obviously there will be places that don't shine as brightly, and in this case, it's the phono inputs. My recommendation would be to source an external RIAA phono pre-amp and place that between your turntable and the line input." Pioneer are you kidding us? This is a controller for 1000 Euro. How are even cheap Xone:23 or Nuo 2.0 for around 250 € absolutely fine with playing analog vinyl? This is ridicuolious. P.S. You are suggesting buying two external RIAA preamps for the turntables..yeah..right.. How is a controller like NI Z2 able to have decent phono preamps for analog vinyl? It costs about 450-500 €.
@@jayritter604 it's been admitted by pioneer that the DDJ-1000 isn't meant to be used for vinyl, only DVS. Yes, audio comes through with vinyl, but that's not the issue. The issue is the quality. Have you compared vs mixers with proper preamps? It's obvious that it sounds bad.
I still have my 1210 decks and was expecting to just plug them straight in to the DDJ-800 (or DDJ-1000). Very poor of Pioneer to provide phono inputs that are not actually suitable for playing normal vinyl though.
OMG.... Having done loads of research over the past 4 months I had just about settled on purchasing the DDJ SR2 (As a 2 Channel alternative to the SX3) and now this comes along. It's probably a bit too early for any useful comparisons but would be nice to know your thoughts on the pros and cons of each (DDJ-SR2 vs DDJ-800)???
Happens to the best of us 😄Biggest decision you'll have to make is Serato or Rekordbox? If you like Serato go for the SR2, and the 800 for Rekordbox DJ
I don't understand when you say this is a standalone controller. Do you still need to plug in a laptop? If it's stand alone where is the USB hub yo put the USB music?
I just purchased a 1000 yesterday. Should arrive Friday. Very excited! I wish I could tune in to you live Phil, but alas, duty calls. Get on that DDJ-1000 course Phil!
hey, Phil i loves how to Summs up The facts between Both controllers... the DDJ1000 is king For the dj That wants to Take full Control of All options he or she has in DJJING. Thank U Phil 💪🏾🚀😃
Sebastian 'Skittz' Körner I also own a RB, but i would rather collect money until i can affort a better 4 Channel Controller then spending another 300-500 bucks at an Controller with similar features than my actual Controller
DJ Janssen I don’t really need four channels at home. It would just be an upgrade for my home setup. At the venue I usually DJ they have a CDJ setup anyways and for on the road a two channel is enough for me.
@@digitaldjtips hell yeah!!! It was overwhelming to begin with but then after about an hour of so I got used to it and now I couldn't be more in love with it :D best thing I've bought for sureee
Worth noting that the phono preamps on the DDJ1000 and presumably the 800 are not actually fit for analogue turntables and only suitable for DVS. They sound terrible and that’s been confirmed by Pioneer but not mentioned in ANY official documentation. It’s fine as you can use an external preamp but it’s a bit cheeky to claim it can be used as a standalone mixer when it’s not really fit for purpose as a standalone.
@@Audiolab2000 Presumably the've assumed that their audience for this controller won't really use this function all that much so not worth investing in a decent preamp. Seems like it should be a standard though. It is odd.
@@digitaldjtips There was an official comment on the Pioneer forum forums.pioneerdj.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360031675451-Pioneer-DDJ-1000-phono-audio-quality-really-poor- But all you need to do is test it with an external preamp and the difference is night and day. It's a real shame that this is not explicit from Pioneer especially as all their documentation states you can use the controller with analogue turntables (technically true but it sounds dreadful!)
Waited for this Controller. But...no MAGVEL fader, no standalone effects and the little too high pricetag in comparisn to the 1000 killed it for me. Little disappointed to be true :(
Yeah have to agree I felt the same. I got rid of my 1000 recently and this looked perfect but no hardware effects on external equipment, jogs aren't mechanical and that price....i thought after the great price of the 1000 pioneer may have started to drop the prices for future gear...seems they haven't.
I upgraded from a traktor s4/f1 setup to the ddj-1000. WOW. DDj-1000 makes me want to mix everyday and I find rekordbox easy to work with. Effects sound more musical and easier to use....more like how I want them to be setup. PLus I wanted to get back into manual mixing and the pitch control on the pioneer is really good. I had to get into the pioneer universe anyway since its the standard. Money well spent. My NI gear sold for a good price too, which goes to show how highly regarded their stuff is as well. We live in spoiled times with DJ gear.
My take away, even though it's early days: Good move by PioneerDJ, like the more compact 2-Channel option (I'm not a big fan of 4-Channel Mixers), disappointed on the size and tech of the Jog wheels, would have hoped they would carry on the tech going forward, but it's not a deal breaker. So far so good, will wait for a more in-depth review but so far I like it! On a side note though, I think if Pioneer want more people to switch to Rekordbox (Which they are inadvertently doing by releasing Rekordbox-only hardware), they should really consider making the transition a bit easier for guys moving over from Serato. Forcing guys to either buy additional software or manually reorganize their libraries is a fail in my opinion. Otherwise good review, and good all around device from Pioneer
If this controller was $699, this would be a no brainer. But at $899, you might as well save a couple of $100 and buy a DDJ-1000... That's being said, I really like the layout of this controller and the fact that the tempo slider are long.
They really dropped the ball with the pricing of this controller its no way im'a pick this up over the 1000 being it's only a few hundred that separates the two controllers
Price is a bit strange. Still think Pioneer think people will stump for a bit more and go for 1000. Also, the jogs look smaller and someone somewhere else said the effects are disabled when you connect external equipment. Where as the 1000 you can use the effects as they are hardware based.
Glad I upgraded from the ddj 400 to the ddj 800, I got mine for £608 during the Black Friday sales, had to snap it up at that price, this controller will last me for a good few years. If I ever decided to dj at the clubs in the future this controller along with my previous ddj 400 will be a great building block for shot on nexus gear.

But if €200 extra makes the difference im willing to invest that (i know that de DDJ-1000 right now goes for €1200).
Thanks for responding so quick!
Yes go for the DDJ-1000, it's a great controller (and will be for years to come) and is enough of an upgrade that it'll actually feel like one (rather than going for something midrange)
@@digitaldjtips Thanks for your honest review Phil!
Just ordered the CDJ1000, can't wait to get started with this new 'dj' chapter.
Hopefully Pioneer will watch with us and give you also some of the turnover;) I'm subcribed to your channel!
Awesome, enjoy!
Does anyone know if you can use an RMX with the 800?🤔
DDJ 1000 comes with Recordbox DVS while DDJ 800 needs purchase recordbox dvs license seperately? is it correct?
Last time we checked, you had to buy DVS for both.
Hi. which one is bigger?
The '1000.
Can I used the ddj 800 with serato dj
No
Excellent controller's, pity that forgot to put the cue split button.
Very good video.. thankyou phil
Glad it helped!
Thanks for another great vid...This is a desperate attempt by pioneer to distract the ovation prime 4 is getting. Thank God some manufacturers are listening to give DJs what they ask for at decent price.
You're welcome Midnytcowboy.
Can these controllers be used with mixxx software
In theory although you may have to map them yourself and I doubt the screens would work.
Thanks
I think it's pretty hard to replicate the Delay T3 away from Traktor, but hopefully someone will correct me...
Are the phono preamps same as in the DDJ-1000?
Those in DDJ-1000 are REALLY bad for playing analog vinyl.
Official statement from the official Pioneer mod in the pioneer forum about the issue:
"To be perfectly honest, they [the phone preamps] are not intended for vinyl playback.
My recommendation would be to source an external RIAA phono pre-amp and place that between your turntable and the line input."
Pioneer are you kidding us?
This is a controller for 1000 Euro. How are even cheap Xone:23 or Nuo 2.0 for around 250 € absolutely fine with playing analog vinyl?
This is ridicuolious.
P.S. You are suggesting buying two external RIAA preamps for the turntables..yeah..right..
How is a controller like NI Z2 able to have decent phono preamps for analog vinyl? It costs about 450-500 €.
I've had no problems at all. Literally, zero problems with the pre-amp. What sort of cartridges are you running?
@@jayritter604 it's been admitted by pioneer that the DDJ-1000 isn't meant to be used for vinyl, only DVS. Yes, audio comes through with vinyl, but that's not the issue. The issue is the quality. Have you compared vs mixers with proper preamps? It's obvious that it sounds bad.
Thanks for reporting that Audiolab2000
I still have my 1210 decks and was expecting to just plug them straight in to the DDJ-800 (or DDJ-1000). Very poor of Pioneer to provide phono inputs that are not actually suitable for playing normal vinyl though.
Does Ddj 800 have metal surface or plastic surface?
@@digitaldjtips And what about with VDJ (Which I also use a lot for all the Video elements, a part of the job that's getting busier each year)?
No word on Virtual Dj compatibility but I'd assume that will come pretty quickly.
how much will it cost me to buy the RME course, if I have to buy it from India?
All of our courses are in USD and this one is US$197 :)
@@digitaldjtips thanks for getting back to my comment
I don't understand when you say this is a standalone controller. Do you still need to plug in a laptop? If it's stand alone where is the USB hub yo put the USB music?
It's definitely not a standalone controller - yes, you do need to use your laptop.
I just purchased a 1000 yesterday. Should arrive Friday. Very excited! I wish I could tune in to you live Phil, but alas, duty calls. Get on that DDJ-1000 course Phil!
We'll see you again soon I hope Tha Rukkus! Have fun with your new controller...
Can you make a comparison to the RR
One is standalone (no laptop required), one isn't. That makes them very different "ways" to DJ.
hey, Phil i loves how to Summs up The facts between Both controllers... the DDJ1000 is king For the dj That wants to Take full Control of All options he or she has in DJJING. Thank U Phil 💪🏾🚀😃
You're more than welcome, glad you found it useful.
I hope there will be a DDJ-600. Would be the next logical update from my DJ-RB.
Sebastian 'Skittz' Körner
I also own a RB, but i would rather collect money until i can affort a better 4 Channel Controller then spending another 300-500 bucks at an Controller with similar features than my actual Controller
DJ Janssen I don’t really need four channels at home. It would just be an upgrade for my home setup. At the venue I usually DJ they have a CDJ setup anyways and for on the road a two channel is enough for me.
I went from an rb to a ddj1000. What an upgraded xD
Wow you must have felt that difference! :)
@@digitaldjtips hell yeah!!! It was overwhelming to begin with but then after about an hour of so I got used to it and now I couldn't be more in love with it :D best thing I've bought for sureee
Great stuff, im guessing DDJ-800 is just about the same size as SX3...?
Hard to say without having it in person/official specs, but yeah possibly thereabouts :)
Does pioneer make a DDJ-800 SRT (any rumors?)
No
Is the dj-800 compatible with virtual DJ
Almost certainly. If not now, very soon.
What about the ddj-sx3 is that compatible with virtual dj 🤔
If you check the Virtual DJ website it tells you every controller that's compatible :) www.virtualdj.com/products/hardware.html
I tried it and it wasn't good at all. Rekordbox is a lot better with the DJ-800.
I'm getting ready to buy the Pioneer DDJ 800 want to learn how to use it and does it work for Serato Pro
No it does not work with Serato
Do they both have the same fx tho???
Never mind I just saw it! Hahah okay cool
Glad to help :)
I will wait until you have the DDJ 800 and you can thoroughly go through. I already checked out the specs and saw the vid by Pioneer.
We should be getting a review unit in the next week or so.
It's really a shame because besides this ridiculous preamp fail, the DDJ-1000 is a great controller. What on earth were they thinking?
@@Audiolab2000 Presumably the've assumed that their audience for this controller won't really use this function all that much so not worth investing in a decent preamp. Seems like it should be a standard though. It is odd.
We'll definitely be testing that now you've raised it, PWM Music. Where have you seen it confirmed by Pioneer?
@@digitaldjtips There was an official comment on the Pioneer forum
forums.pioneerdj.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360031675451-Pioneer-DDJ-1000-phono-audio-quality-really-poor-
But all you need to do is test it with an external preamp and the difference is night and day. It's a real shame that this is not explicit from Pioneer especially as all their documentation states you can use the controller with analogue turntables (technically true but it sounds dreadful!)
@@digitaldjtips In the official pioneer forum. Goolge for "Pioneer DDJ-1000 phono audio quality really poor "
If the 800 forces the price down on the 1000, I'll go the 1000🤔
The price of ddj-800 will be between USD $899 to 999
Don't count on it. 1000 is the way to go anyway. Save a little longer, well worth the wait.
Bottom line, $800 vs $1000 🤔 Nice video!
skip to 5:45 you will thank me later
Doe's pioneer have any coming out with sum thing to compete with prime 4
We have no word of more powerful standalone systems form Pioneer DJ, although of course it has the XDJ-RR and XDJ-RX2.
pls compare s4 mk3 and ddj 800
We may well do that!
We do indeed!
Actually the retailer price of DDJ-800 will be between USD $ 899 to 999 possible will be release between mid April or early May 2019.
I asm sure there's nothing inadvertent about Pioneer DJ's tactics to get more people to use Rekordbox!
what happened to serato?!!!
Objectively, the company clearly didn't want to make hardware that relied on a third party software platform, which is understandable.
cuando saldran los nuevos CDJ DE PIONEER ?
CREO QUE DENON HIZO UN GRAN TRABAJO CON SC5000 Y PIONEER SE HA QUEDADO ATRAS
Thanks for this!! Was already comparing the two!
No worries Dru TheDJ!
@@digitaldjtips Can't wait to see the review and actual demo of the controller
The DDJ 800 is my pick
Thanks!
If this controller was $699, this would be a no brainer. But at $899, you might as well save a couple of $100 and buy a DDJ-1000... That's being said, I really like the layout of this controller and the fact that the tempo slider are long.
You could have a point here.
thanks this video
They really dropped the ball with the pricing of this controller its no way im'a pick this up over the 1000 being it's only a few hundred that separates the two controllers
Maybe when it hits store the prices will be a bit wider.
BTW Virtual DJ does have mapping for the 1000
Did someone say it didn't, Mike?
I was with the 800 until the crossfader came into the conversation. Gotta have a jog that can scratch!
Historical debate anyway as neither is made any more.
Price is a bit strange. Still think Pioneer think people will stump for a bit more and go for 1000.
Also, the jogs look smaller and someone somewhere else said the effects are disabled when you connect external equipment. Where as the 1000 you can use the effects as they are hardware based.
Wonder if they'll drop the price - we'll have to see :)
