I'm looking to publish a weekly breakdown alongside all the 60s Cinematography. So now's your chance to have a say and recommend something you'd like to see!
I've always wondered how they lit the movie Heat...brilliant movie in almost every way. Also super interested in breaking down Chinatown with it's use of harsh light and shadows.
The night scenes from "Black Narcissus" (1947) from Powell & Pressburger are astonishing. A comparison between the lighting style in Suspiria (1977) by Dario Argento and its remake (2018) would be very interesting.
Thanks for this, Dale. Bridge of Spies would be a good one for high budget. Always loved the halation in that. Better Call Saul would be a bad one but a good learning experience. Not a fan of these Netflix shows having external lighting but no one can be bothered to switch on interior lights. I’m willing to bet they wrote that into the plot of BCS due to time and budget constraints. When you go over LotR, it would be great if you talked about Peter Doyle and his involvement in the DI process. He’s also an amazing Colour Supervisor/Colourist.
It is interesting to think of the shift in lighting that has happened due to 'TV' budgets and the expectation of something more cinematic, combined with the constantly evolving technology.... Will try and work some of these in!
Hello, first thanx for your high quality videos . I'd really like some breakdown about Seven where apparently they didnt use alot of "extra light" or Fight club .
Love some Fincher! Would be interesting to look at these as I know he used kino flos a lot back in the day and for many years they were my go to lighting.
Hi, thank you for all your good content ! I was thinking about your idea of comparaison between lords of the rings movies and series. And I think a second comparaison between lords of the rings and with GOT house of the dragon can be very good too : How to approach fantasy in two tv big budget streaming service series !
I got into cinematography through a channel called Wandering DP, who did lighting breakdowns of high production value commercials. Unfortunately he barely uploads anymore but i could see you fill that niche quite well
Old school, be interesting to hit up some older films that would have been shot in a completely different way in terms of cameras and lighting available at the time.
It would be great if you could break down some music videos as well. (A lot of them are basically shot as short films) I like watching a lot of Calvin Harris’s music videos, like the song “potion”. You could analyze Tyler the Creator’s music videos too.
Would love one on the tv show Severance. Thanks Dale!
Will add it to the list, any scenes or episodes in particular, (just trying to hone what I watch as I'm getting lots of recommendations!!)
@@StillMovingMedia Episode 1 in particular. It has some stark shot choices that aren't as pronounced in the later episodes.

Adding them to the list!
One of my all time favourites - Black Sails and The Good, the ...... :)
Hmm a whole Sergio leone session is definitely worthy 🤔
Better call saul is one of the series that has a brilliant cinematography style
🙌
Thanks for this, Dale.

No particular wish, but anything involving Roger Deakins and Denis Villeneuve would be more than great! :)
Will build myself up to those ones 😅
BTW, Is the anamorphic aspect in Sandman messed up on purpose? It is very strange.
Only watched the first episode… I’ll be looking out for it now!

Good call, watching both at the moment and the feel is very different!
Thin red line pls
I'll put it on the list, any scenes in particular?
Black summer season 2.. how do you light when the camera is moving 360°??
Any episode in particular that it happens in?
@@StillMovingMedia hey there mate, loving your work, appreciate you looking into this.. ep 8 the plane,... crazy, outdoor chase scene for example..

Still enjoy Patricks breakdowns, think he is still doing more on patreon? Did you ever watch any of the Cinematography database breakdowns?
Menace 2 Society

Really like the cinematography of these:
1. Terminal list
2. Penny Dreadful - the original
Now on the list, just got to find time to watch everything!

These could be good almost reaction videos as there much shorter than a TV series or film... kind of reacting and analysing on first impressions...
I'm interested in documentary lighting. Usually using what is available naturally, and mostly daylight. How to make it look nice when run and gun
If you knew the shoot I’ve been on for the last two days 😅🙌
