In this this day and age, a FAR cry from the 70s and 80s, I painfully guess that the Sistine Chapel smells like......absolutely nothing. It's odorless and sterile. Maybe it smelled like musty old books and heady candlewax 40 years ago. But now, nothing. This is me guessing, maybe someone can confirm that I'm right?

    • @firefly927

I was there, remembered this movie scene, took several deep breaths in through my nose and...it doesn't have a smell. The windows are open and no smell aside from the tourists around me, which fortunately didn't smell either. I would guess it's been far longer than 40 years ago that it had it's own distinct smell. The chapel opened to the public in 1512. @@CheerfullyCynical829

And that everything he has quickly 'sized up' based on limited information is far from accurate.

What makes the scene work so well is that Sean never raises his voice wants to Will. It's steady, it's consistent in its tone and speed, and there are beats wear appropriate to drive home the points Robin did fantastic job in this monologue. His character completely demolishes Wills assessment of him and is taken to task over his attitude problem.

The true elegance of this scene. The intent to tear him a new one while speaking in a soft and non aggressive tone. The desire to let someone know that they're brilliant while also bringing them down to earth and giving them a dose of humility. It takes a truly complex mind to not only understand what it's like to be a genius, but even more so when you have to embody that person.

This, the changing of perspective by standing on the table in Dead Poets Society, the war speech from Doctor Who and how Malcolm in the Middle shows a family rallying together at the drop of a hat really shows the inner workings of humanity. How important emotions are, how much difference a new perspective can make, how important it is to work together to all get through it and how no matter how much we think we’re right when the battle starts it’s irrelevant to how much will be lost and the fact that we’ll still need to sit down and talk it through, because life is too precious and short to waste it on not having time with your loved ones.

Will may have ripped Sean's life apart for a bit, but Sean showed Will that he's too chickenshit to live one. Will is more raw and exposed than any beating he's ever experienced, yet it was done to him out of understanding and respect. Will had no defense, no armor against Sean's brilliance at getting through to him in that moment. Sean knew Will was going to need that Taster's Choice moment after Sean exposed the anchor Will thought was armor. Will is left emotionally exposed, maybe even traumatized a bit, but surrounded by that lake with children playing, families bonding, swans swimming.

The moment for someone that’s never known it. The moment you realize someone actually cares. Then when you realize that it becomes easier to let others that care in. He falls for the girl and Ben’s character gives home the speech about he better not be here one day, his boys give him the car……. It all stems from the moment. Such a great film and couldn’t have been a better man to play Robins character.

    Love is a luxury.
And those who’ve grown up in war,
    Chaos,
    Only understand problems.
    Machines.
    How to fix,
    How to bring back order.
A machine would be a kid if it had feelings and felt scared, felt sorry.
    To attack a machine?
    Is it even worth it?
Depending on how bad that machine is,
You might just encounter yourself with more problems,
Or the machine sizing you up more to put you in a box,
    Problems,
Because you’re nothing but a problem.
    Because,
    The machine never had peace,
    And that’s all it wants
