@@Jz9222 I'm sorry, but that is such a croc of shit. I don't know all the numbers, but Sweden certainly was incremental in saving Finland from the Soviets, specifically, total annexation by them. The Swedish government sent ~135.000 rifles, 347 machine guns, 450 light machine guns, ~50.000.000 rounds of ammunition, 92 anti-tank guns, 100 anti-aircraft guns, 144 other field guns, ~300.000 artillery shells, 300 sea mines, 500 depth charges. 138 aircraft were sent to Finland from Sweden + a bit more, but they were privately fundraised and have no clear numbers. Sweden also broke the rule of export of military munitions in peacetime by importing some 200 planes that were sent by other countries to be assembled in Sweden and then sent to Finland. They set up a volunteer flying corps in Finland and a flying school in Sweden for Swedish volunteers. Later when Sweden imported 44 Finnish-bought American planes, Sweden was so busy assembling them that the assembly of their own airforce was hampered. Sweden allowed Finnish submarines to be repaired in Swedish docks. ~15000 Swedes volunteered to fight, ~10000 of which got accepted and ~8000 who became part of organized units in Finland to fight in the war until it ended. Some 80.000 Finnish children were sent to Sweden during the winter war. Keep in mind, this is only the winter war and not the continuation war, where contributions were also made. I'm so tired of my country being called cowardly despite our best efforts to help our Finnish brethren all the while trying to stay neutral and saving our country and people from merciless bombing. You have to keep in mind the times they were in. It's easy to put blame in hindsight, knowing what happened. Somehow it makes it more harrowing to me... like showing who exactly owned what and how at what time just immerses you so much more into the ideas of what atrocities were going on... and how quickly situations changed, and how eternal they must have felt. Amazing work indeed.
June 1940 is honestly terrifying when you see how fast it was. It's easy to understand why things went the way they did when you consider that over the course of three weeks the Germans basically overran half the country.
From a German perspective this was actually really interesting. There were some alliances I was not aware of. Really good to have an overview like this!
Finn here. Everyone who knows even little bit about our history is aware of the fact that without Germany's help in the Winter war and the Continuation war the faith of our country would have been completely different in a negative way. @@someblackguy7371 Yes. We definitely had to SAVE ourselves. We had to make a peace deal with Soviet Union since Germany was losing the war so government realized that Soviet Union could invade Finland and taking harsh actions against people like sending most men to gulags since Stalin would have seen Finnish people as a threat. Finnish and German military brass tried to agree on withdrawal for a quite a long time. Finnish government and military commanders sent fake information for Soviet Union about German forces withdrawal and there was even fake battles so that Soviet Union commanders believed that we were pushing Germans out. I don't remember 100% sure how the situation escalated but then Soviet Union found out that we weren't actually trying to get Germans out quickly enough so they gave really strict time limits for withdrawal of German troops. Finn here. Everyone who knows even little bit about our history is aware of the fact that without Germany's help in the Winter war and the Continuation war the faith of our country would have been completely different in a negative way. Danke! ✌
@@Byrzzaa and then later on to save themselves the fins then betrayed Germany and kick the german troops out of their homeland... not before killing some German soldiers themselves though.
Since Germans were not willing to withdraw at those time limits (Germans were already withdrawing their troops to Norway and Europe since they needed troops there) Finnish commanders had no choice but fight Germans out of Northern Finland.

Props to this guy for going back in time and looking at the map of Europe as it changes, because we never knew for sure if this all actually happened.

Many historians forget and it's sad to see them forgotten again here but Canada also fought with the Allies in Europe and took part in the D-Day invasion, they took Juno beach and suffered over 1,000 casualties. Of all 6 units to take part in D-Day (3 American, 2 British, 1 Canadian) the Canadian unit took their target and moved furthest inland of all 6 units. They went on the help liberate Europe and it shouldn't be forgotten.
this is not forgotten in Russia, we went through it at school (personally in my school yes, but I can’t say about others)
We thank you brother 🙏 to all of the countries that helped Britain we thank you... Canada, Anzacs, India, Poland, China the list goes on. Without your help we couldn't have lasted as long as we did until the USA joined.
🇨🇦 Juno Beach 🇨🇦
Lets not forget about Nicaragua, the most brutal one yet. They took a german guys pool.
Let's not forget that Canada joined the war when Hitler retreated for almost a year and the USSR managed to liberate all of its previously conquered territory, after which it began to liberate Europe. To have time to participate in finishing off a war that has already lost is a serious heroism.
The USSR began to fight fascism in 1941, and Canada entered the war in 1944. During these 3 years, almost 27 million died in the USSR, and here you are talking about a thousand Canadians who died for the right to participate in the division of Europe after the victory over Hitler?
Oh my God you actually made this... You really deserve more subscribers.

Finland be like: and that’s how you don’t get annexed
It is nothing but geography for them - they were simply too far off the trail to Berlin for Soviets.
@@yurikozhokin8348 Also Mannerheim was clever enough to not ally with the Germans and to not enter Leningrad. He knew it would make Stalin angry if he did so.
@@nickmtp8824 I do not think it mattered to Soviets that much - anyone fighting against USSR at that point was an enemy. Had Mannerheim been really clever, he would have never allowed Finland to be dragged into this war - this would have saved Finland many lives and territory.
@@yurikozhokin8348 Not really, the two countries were in wars yes but there were some negotiations. Mannerheim wanted to stop the war in 1942 when the situation was good, because he knew the ussr will eventually win. But the Finnish government disagreed to stop the war. So finally a Treaty was signed and Finland lost some lands and promised to be neutral.

@@orrismate139 In fact, the Soviet Union was the biggest contributor to the Allied Victory in Europe and the Defeat of Nazism. I doubt that without our support you (Russians/Soviets) would be the 1st to Reach Berlin!! Someone excluded Canada in the Allied powers list for the WW2. Canada had the 3rd largest army on the Allied side on D-day, after Great Britain, and the United States. The Canadian army was the only army to reach it's first day objective on D-day, and beyond. They don't get the respect they deserve, for there contributions.
I assume the American flag represents the US as well as Canada in this presentation, as their front's were largely the same and you can't really overlap the flags.
@@ThisNewHandleSystemSucks Must have been an American who put this presentation together. They have been pissed off with Canada ever since we burned the White House down on August 24, 1814 durning the war of 1812. Only time a foreign power has occupied the United States capital.
