Let's talk about the FOMO in the fabric industry, as well as the phenomenon behind rare, out-of-print fabric surrounding popular quilting cotton designers.

I love her designs, but I wouldn’t pay that much! She’s always producing new lines!

I think you should make a tote bag out of it. Would be super cute and useful. It is not useful as fabric alone😊

Get the bunny print! I found an Alexander Henry fabric for $4.00 a yard and made a skirt with pockets out of it and it makes me really happy. It's a.print with young girls in bicycles. I' m pretty sure it's out of print too. I had it for a couple of years before doing something with it. Originally, I was going to use it in part of a.sundress. It is one of the sweeter prints some of the other prints have lots of skulls and things on them. I hope you use your fabric!

You should make a small back pack or craft bag. By Annie has a really cute one. Then you can enjoy looking at it all the time🙂

This is why I started buying a fat quarter bundle of Tula Pink fabrics and storing them. It's an investment.

Wow.. I have 2 panels of the bright Laurel Burch cats that are cute and kinda freaky.. I was going to make something for the granddaughters that have cats but just haven't done it. Maybe I should hang onto it!

It’s the Liberty fabric that I’ve seen go for big money, I guess some is worth a lot. Joann’s sells Liberty fabric, 35 bucks a yard. The fabric clerk assured me it was the real deal, not just a cheaper version made for Joann’s. Pretty, but not my fabric aesthetic. The Country Cow has an awesome tote bag pattern called The Yarn Bomber, I’d use the Tula stuff for that, would be so cute.

I don't think it's worth it; it's not like they're going to stop making fabric - there will always be more! After going through a HUGE fabric destash I passed along a couple of fat quarter bundles that I had paid more for than the original price because I was collecting a particular designer and it was "OOP" everywhere - once I almost paid $75 for a 10 inch square layer cake and charm packs were going for almost $50. I guess things are worth whatever people are willing to pay; but if it just sits around in your closet or on shelves for years - was it even worth purchasing in the first place?
Now I have projects matched to my current fabric stash and on a go forward basis I'm planning to just buy fabric and/or kits when and if I need it.
For your awesome, super cute fabric, maybe use it to cover squares for a design wall? Or maybe fabric covered boxes, tote, project bag, or purse? Something that will really show off the cats!

I agree and sometimes a designer, such as Tula will re-release a line that was popular and hard to get. And I hear you about having fabric-project ratio stash of fabric. I did not do that with yarn. 😊

This is a super fun discovery to have made, Jen! Make something that you will enjoy using, or looking at over the years. (I like making pillow covers for my couch accent pillows.)
Off topic, which pet was easier to care for, Gatto, or JHop?

You asked if it is crazy...depends if you really want it. As someone else wrote - price is dependent on the demand. If that is what someone will pay...well, so be it. There are some other collectible fabric out there, from what I've heard....not my personal cup of tea, but it is some people's. I've long learned that "is it worth it?" is a question that totally varies from person to person - think about restaurants and food. Many people pay for one meal what others spend for a week of groceries. Is it worth it? You are pretty frugal, Jen, but her regular prices now start at $12.50 and up per yard.

Tula is reprinting old collections but reworked/recoloured - she specifically said this was partly to not devalue the resale market of her old prints. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I would never be able to justify paying that much for fabric. I'd sell it and buy another machine or something 😆

  • @DH-qz2so

I appreciate the artistry of Tula Pink's fabric...but it's not my Cup of Tea..but it is neat/cool fabric for sure! I do have a Jelly Roll of Black Tie/Basic Grey fabric...that I paid $30 for...and is now not available...but Jelly Rolls nowadays, go for $70...! So yes, fabric has gone up 4x since I started quilting 23 years ago.... If F.Spirit did a re-print of this collection, the value would go down... the value in anything, is the rareity/out of print, of the item... and the chaos surrounding the conversation of "oh! we can't get that anymore, it's going out of stock"... (kind of like toilet paper!) Lol!

Tula Pink fabric does not get re-run (she does not allow it b/c she understands her fan base) and her older OOP designs are collectible, just like artwork or any other collectible. The value of anything is whatever someone is willing to pay for it. High value of something does not mean they are crazy. Please be kind with your characterization of Tula fans. Enjoy your fabric

But how many people actually buying the fabric for that price? I know I wouldn't pay that price. But it is cute fabric with the cats. Maybe you could make a tote bag? Definitely not worth $200 a yard.

  • @deannarego2283

I think the price of fabric is ridiculous! I think that’s half the reason people stopped sewing. It’s cheaper to buy off the rack in some cases.

  • @sewhappy4643
    @sewhappy4643 Год назад

To me, that seems way out of line for quilt fabric. I hesitate to pay $15. a yard for it. I'm sure it's all a matter of someone's opinion.

  • @heathern9051

I guess my question is the rare fabric selling or is it wishful thinking of the people posting it. That is just crazy. I definitely wouldn't buy it. There is so much fabric available.

When I checked back to screenshot the $599 FQ bundle to include in this video, it was gone! I had to find another one at a slightly different price. It does appear that some of these listings are actually selling, as I've searched Etsy several times and notice some previous listings are gone and new ones have popped up.
