Reversion can totally be a playstyle, imo (in raid, at least). I've done some raid testing and have finished multiple fights around 35-40k without using emerald blossom at all, just focusing on echo and reversion and maintaining the buff as long as possible. The downside is, it takes very specific (Crit focused) gear, as well as that crit phial to really be viable. Ideally, you want to be at like 35+% crit which is going to be very difficult in the first tier. It's also, in my opinion, a much more demanding playstyle of managing hots and cycling through the empower spells. But I personally love that so many talent builds and playstyles are going to be viable with this class, I'm having so much fun with it personally.
Hey Jack! Great video! One video Idea that I think would be really helpful/one that I'd love to watch is breaking down what non-healers need to know about the different healers in dflight. I'm a tank now and so I'm not sure what I need to be watching out for with the new healer changes or Evoker.
Since about WoD i mained Holy Paladin - it got its ups and lows, but the utility of the spec always kept it afloat and that's why sticked to it. I do not play highest Mythic Raids, M+ just up to +20.. so still considering giving it a try. Feel like it's like "Demon Hunter for Healers" .. fun and viable alternative even if not best in every scenario.
This feels like the only honest video on Preservation Evoker I've seen in weeks. Really appreciate you taking the time to explain your thoughts. Disappointed is an understatement as I was hoping for something new in the healing front, but it is what it is :)

Other videos touch on these issues, then say "but blizzard must be aware of it and will change it" or "but it's no big deal." Time will tell I guess. The preservation evoker was great. I had just started to main it. Unfortunately, it has been nerfed into the ground and is no longer effective as a healer anywhere in PVE. It used to be really fun to play but it's destroyed now. It's a PVP only class.
So they need more spot healing and less restricted mobility. Basically just buff echo and living flame + make hover allow you to cast empowered abilities on the move right?
Ok so I’m stuck between monk disc priest or pally. I played in the past a resto shaman and Druid. I’m also considering evoker but I don’t really get pros and cons between the 4 classes. Any healers out there can explain to me who is best for raiding and dungeon and their pros and cons? I’m so stuck on this I’m also try considering the dps specs of these classes I heard evoker not great with single target I’dk How ret pally dps monk or shadow priest are
Really nice video! My own perspective is a PvP one and I really agree with spot healing feeling very weak. In PvP it feels like the moment I run out of cooldowns, and I have to heal constant single target pressure I just flop. Echo is just such a long cast time as well, and then I have to spend at least another global afterwards before that big heal will actually come in, which just adds to that feeling of weakness IMO.
Hey Jak, just got my hands on the beta and been testing Evoker. Most things seem fairly straightforward to me, but I can’t really figure out Echo. Like why/when should I use it? Is it just when 1 person needs a lot of spot healing? Because I feel like I have other spells for that and rather use my essence for group healing with Blossom or damage with Disintegrate. Also, should I use Azure Strike in AoE situations? Seems like it does more damage than Living Flame when i talent it to hit 3 targets, but it also doesn’t give me essence bursts. Not sure about that one. You mentioned it but I thought it’s supposed to be the cleave alternative
@@AutomaticJak So I tested it some more and it turns out Echo is ridiculously strong when used in combos with other spells. Like putting up double HoTs on a target. Or healing 4 people at once with Emerald Communion. Turns all your single target healing into multi target healing. Plus they just made it instant cast. I feel dumb for sleeping on that spell lol. Still wish it’s initial heal was better.
Almost all of the "standing still to empower a spell" was resolved yesterday with the beta patch. Now, you can still get full dps/hps value from all empowered spells (minus Spiritbloom) by empowering to the first level only. That doesn't change how grouped up you need parties/raids to be to maximize your heals, but it does go a long way toward making Evokers feel more mobile. After a decade of no new healers, I was extremely excited to play Evoker as my main. However, I'm feeling like it needs more work to not be frustrating, even in lower tiers of content. I don't feel there are any major reasons you'd actively seek out an Evoker healer compared to the other healers in raid especially, but also for M+. Priest with PI/5% HP, Pally with DR and Brez, Shaman with utility totems and Hero/Lust, Druid with 3% vers and Roar, and even Monk with 5% phys damage boost along with Para/RoP and 4% avoidance, all feel more appealing than Evoker. Finally, two charges of about the best DR in the game on a 90s cd is pretty amazing. Their survivability got a big boost yesterday, but I was hoping Evoker would get a lot more attention as it's one of the pillars of the entire expansion.
Having a 1 empower Dream Breath is nice but that healing is delayed into a HoT instead of being instant so there will still be times you'll want to charge it up the whole way. More flexible for sure, but not an instant guarantee. Yea the survivability is nice but the forced stack up + the lack of utility are hard drags on them at present and idk if we have enough time for them to really fix these things before the tier starts.

I think it's so sad that there is almost no spot where you want to press azure strike since they removed the chance to get the proc from it and it dealing so little damage.
There are a lot of people who haven't touched the Evoker and/or the Beta at all who will get access to the class a few weeks before pre-patch. I'm hoping that Blizz will get a lot of feedback from these people and that they will make a few final changes before launch. Overall I feel the class has been improved greatly in the past few weeks. Now if they would just LET ME USE SOAR AS A MOUNT I would never play another class... for the first week.

After couple of days playing Preservation Evoker I have same feelings. I'm missing flow and I often feel that I'm missing right toolkit to solve critical situation. I'm suppose to be extremely mobile but most of abilities has cast time, charge time, channeling or charging. And I felt a lot of frustration if group split to every corner of a boss room ... which I can expect from many of pug groups. I hope they will address those things. I really like the fantasy of the class
I tried some weird "raid cd" into raid: Verdant embrace --> 2x Temporal Anomaly --> Living Flame (for two essence burst procs) --> Stasis --> 5-6x Emerald Blossom --> Release Stasis. It looks cool and strong, but maybe it is stupidly overcomplicated and we will have much simpler gameplay.
Great overview of the class, thank you for summarizing this. Still not sure if I want to play evoker or priest I think until I get my hands on the class but I am thinking evoker seems fun despite the flaws you mentioned.
Would this be a good class to play for my first healer? Been a mage one trick since classic, more of a m+ player nowadays and was thinking of going healer for my group of friends for m+ since none of us really player healer. Would i be better off playing something like a priest or shaman? I played m+ on a higher level but nothing to crazy.

@@Ampage21s I ofc won't speak for Jak, but as a healer since Classic, I'd have to say that your guess is probably correct. Priest and Mage play more similarly than evoker and mage. Priest have a great healing toolkit that many people enjoy. Evoker is a more complicated class with multiple resource systems, alot of battlefield movement, and more advanced/niche gameplay. And that's not me saying "it's too complicated for you", I just mean that if you are dipping your toes in the healing water for the first time, especially coming from a caster mage, something like priest or shaman may be a more direct/comfortable switch to start with. But play what you want at the end of the day =)
Wait doesn’t fire breath do the same total damage when empowered to level 1 as level 3/4? Thought just quickly using it to put the DoT up would be ideal in Raids or when targets are Gonna live longer than the DoT takes.
Fire and Dream Breath do same healing regardless of empowerment. More empower = more instant healing/damage tho. So it can be situationally worth to charge up
After MW was my main when it first released, I told myself I will never, ever, play another healer on release again. MW monk was rough all the way up until the final patch, and even then this healer with 0 utility and was supposed to be "the" HPS healer, was outdone by RDruid. Honestly, I won't make that mistake again, and I would definitely not raid on this healer given its current issues. Oddly enough, this class just makes me say "Why don't I just play MW instead?" Even visually. Lol. This whole lock new classes behind one race thing is so frustrating, too, like locking DHs behind only two :(
Is this still the case after new passive (75% increase armor) dream breath changes and dream breath 30% increase healing talent? Also the flame ability buff?

Reversion playstyle reminds me of the old resto Druid playstyle back in WoTLK where rejuvs and lifeblooms were super important to keep rolling at all times.

I see every content player do this "eeeeh eeehmmmm" the skills are clunky as they try to say it. There are heals or skills that you lack to work in dire situations. Heals are OP atm, in troughput. Why it feels ok to play. But i found my self in many.. i mean MANY times, where i could have fixed a death with a easy cast on another healer. There is so much extra with the evoker. So i agree on everything that has been said here. I was hyped for a new healer. but it does not live up to what its said to do, and it felt more akward then good to play for me
Again, cooldown and resource cost. Not sustainable forever and that’s the point I’m making. You can burst with various cooldown/resource combos but you can’t sustain
They should change the Evoker's mastery: "Increases healing and damage based on distance travelled in the past x seconds". Maybe reduce cast time by distance travelled. That would (maybe) eliminate the problem of a raid healer EITHER doing hps OR being mobile.
Sounds like you may have missed one of the big updates they have for the Renewing Blaze ability. They've knocked the hot down to 8s down from like 14. Tons better. Overall survivability is greatly increased. Still a more advanced class, so it's not meant to be easy. I do feel like the throughput you get in exchange for the difficulty is worth it. I'm a bit biased though. I've been a dragon nerd since diapers, so playing as a dragon on my favorite game is what I've always hoped for and nothing will deter me lol.
I can see where you are coming from but at the same time there hasn't been enough testing and enough people on the beta yet I feel to definetely say Evoker will only be good at stacking and burst heal. I don't like when people have pre-conceived idea on new content hey never even played then it creates a bias and nobody really tries anything else and the bias gets confirmed despite not necessarily being warranted. That plus the fact that who knows maybe new talents will be added, the new tier sets in following raids might also change the spec significantly. It's too early to tell imho.
Ah yes, main Prev so in 5+ months you might get better tier sets even though you can easily catch up within a week before the raid after this one drops. you comment doesn't make sense.
The Aoe spells are time consuming and have high cd…if released earlier they might not be powerful enough and then you have to wait for the essence/ cd to reuse….not reliable aoe…..feels like powerful but still not certain of the reliability it offers….

honestly, evoker is extremely easy to play. Have high performance in M+ without a minimun stress.... I prefere play an other healer.... i will Play the HOLY PRIEST! AHHAHAHAHA
totally unfortunate timing on this video! evokers got some pretty huge changes with the additional defensivies, 75% bonus armour and such. makes them a far tankier class!

Azure strike is okay but its only for damage no healing bonus . Echo can be ignored in some builds compared to other. I usually don't use it much

monk is definitely most mobile healer, tank and somewhat close to dh when dps. im very confused what to play , monk or evoker in terms of healer
MW has been pretty weak for a long time whereas I think it's highly likely evoker is OP for 1-2 tiers. Blizzard seems to always overtime new classes.

I'm a bit biased though. I've been a dragon nerd since diapers, so playing as a dragon on my favorite game is what I've always hoped for and nothing will deter me lol.

Yea survivability is a lot better but the healing design and lack of utility are still glaring issues.

I can see where you are coming from but at the same time there hasn't been enough testing and enough people on the beta yet I feel to definetely say Evoker will only be good at stacking and burst heal.
I don't like when people have pre-conceived idea on new content hey never even played then it creates a bias and nobody really tries anything else and the bias gets confirmed despite not necessarily being warranted.
That plus the fact that who knows maybe new talents will be added, the new tier sets in following raids might also change the spec significantly. It's too early to tell imho.
Ah yes, main Prev so in 5+ months you might get better tier sets even though you can easily catch up within a week before the raid after this one drops.

The Aoe spells are time consuming and have high cd…if released earlier they might not be powerful enough and then you have to wait for the essence/ cd to reuse….not reliable aoe…..feels like powerful but still not certain of the reliability it offers….
the problem with evoker is that you have to play a lot lizard. The stocks of tmoprh is going through the roof with the expansion release

honestly, evoker is extremely easy to play. Have high performance in M+ without a minimun stress.... I prefere play an other healer.... i will Play the HOLY PRIEST! AHHAHAHAHA

totally unfortunate timing on this video! evokers got some pretty huge changes with the additional defensivies, 75% bonus armour and such. makes them a far tankier class!
Yea it doesn't change the design tho. They're tankier which is nice but in general all my other thoughts are the same

@@AutomaticJak For instance, a bit more detail in how each spell works and what they do would have been more helpful, this video appears to be more geared toward someone who knows the class either from tons of reading or beta. Still a good video, but not for someone who doesn't know the class at all. I will be maining one so I hope to see more great content.
