Jumbo Commander it's cool man. I keep up the good work. I love your deck techs. Your Zada deck tech helped me innovate on the Zada deck I've been playing for over a year
As an absolutely red to the bone player, I salute you sir, this is brilliant. Love these videos, you're quickly becoming my favorite MTG channel. My girlfriend and I started playing nothing but commander with our play group last year so I'm very commander focused, I always scan spoilers for improvements to my edh decks as well as new generals. So your videos are just the best. Also the decks that I have already built are almost the exact same cards as the ones you choose, so I get the sense we have a similar philosophy when it comes to brewing haha. Great content man.
Thanks for all the kind words. Searching for new cards to improve my existing decks is one of my favorite things to do. Just adding a couple new cards can make an old favorite deck really feel fresh and new.
Absolutely, also thought I'd let you know I had no idea Lion's Eye Diamond was so valuable until I watched this video. Just realized I bought a $95 card in a batch of 15 for a dollar commons last year haha
I knew you were going to do a deck on this card and was interested on seeing your take on it But dam i did not expect u to do it this quickly and in such an interesting way
I'm glad you found it interesting. Whenever I do something quickly I'm always nervous I'll miss stuff but this commander was so goofy I knew I couldn't get everything right. Cheers.
This is a sweet build compared to the voltron list that I came up with. Hazoret just seems like such a poor commander it's hard to make anything useful out of her.
I was thinking of adding a little Voltron to this deck, so Hazoret isn't taken out by a 6/6. She can be baffled just a little bit. Colossus Hammer, Loxodon War Hammer, Tenzo, Godo's Maul and Sword of Truth and Justice are all fine additions.
I thought of making some funny EDH deck with Hazoret too, but I never thought of doing this. Awesome deck! I wonder if Aggressive Mining could work in this deck.
What do you think of Liliana Death's Majesty for commander?? I think she will be great in reanimator and zombie decks. I'm def looking forward to just using her -7 for a one sided boardwipe in a gisa and geralf deck and bringing some ridiculous creatures from the yard straight to the battlefield in other black or golgari graveyard decks. :)
I like her. Best Liliana in commander?!?!?! First, the bar is very high for planeswalkers in commander. In my experience they need to get value pretty quickly because they are likely to be attacked by the table. Paying 3BB for a reanimation effect is not a good rate but it is not a bad floor. The plus ability is also nice. I like the mill and the blocker. Her ultimate is very good don't get me wrong ... but it is not game winning. I think she will fit in a lot of decks and be really solid but not be broken.
Yeah shes great. The fact that the creature goes straight to the battlefield not your hand is my favourite bit. I do really like the minus 7 tho but you are right that unless you are clearly winning and controlling the battlefield anyway, the other players prob won't let you get there. It is a lot more achievable than most ultimates tho (except new gideon!). In an Atraxa superfriends deck this card will be great. Liliana, The Last Hope's ultimate is better for a zombie deck but hard to achieve and overall Liliana, Death's Majesty is better for commander I think. As its not as totally broken as Gideon of the Trials I hope Lili's price will be reasonable..
Are there any other new spoilers you are interested in building around? A new take on snake tribal with Hepatra as the commander would be very cool. Also the new curse Cruel Reality would be great in a debt based around all the best curses and using cards like Curse of Misfortune and Bitterheart Witch. I'm not sure who the commander would be though... Any other legendarys you think could be good commanders so far?
I suppose theres not many other options yet (basically just Temmet or the blue god. But what do you think of Hepatra? I like her. I'm keen on commanders with very low CMC.
Honestly, I don't think so unless you have reliable way to get it at the start of the game. Late game it's a dead card. There may be other cards in eternal formats that are similar and better. I got me some of the new 7/11 vehicle to crew with it as well. Standard is a different animal.
Definitely some good ideas here! When I played around with Hazoret I focused less on Burn and turned it more into a spellslinger sort of deck. Past in Flames and Mizzix's Mastery being the endgame cards after dumping most of your library into the graveyard. It might be worth a try :)
Hazoret is a she I believe. The new red card advantage mechanic of drawing without drawing by exiling cards off your library and playing them was the very first thing I thought of when I saw Hazoret and I'm sure that was what the designers were thinking of when they did this. You can additionally force others to play in the same lane as you by playing stuff like Uba Mask, which will keep your hand empty, but it does mean you need to be playing a very proactive deck that doesn't really care that it doesn't get to hold cards for later and must cast them each turn. I think that fits well with Hazoret both mechanically and thematically so I like it. I think some madness, hellbent and flashback cards are a good splash to sprinkle into the deck, but the main engine of subverting Hazoret's requirement while still gaining effective card advantage should be playing HEAVILY into the "exile cards and play them instead of drawing them" red mechanic of the present. There are additional 'turn cards into damage' effects that could also be used. I also like the idea of running lots of earthquake style spells that clear the board and also lower everyone's life total; Hazoret shrugs off the damage and can keep smashing face due to the empty board all while you get the side effect of speeding up the game by lowering all life totals. I freely admit Hazoret is not great for many reasons. She should really be bigger than a 5/4 in some way, or cost less. I mean fuck, the blue god gets to be a 5/5 flying, an objectively better body and keyword, for just 3 cmc. Hardly seems fair, especially when you consider its restriction for attacking is that you have lots of resources rather than almost none; speaking of that it would have been much better for Hazoret to allow for 2 cards. That's still a low number, but seems more reasonable. Same thing goes for the ability, it should either cost 2 cmc or lightning bolt all opponents instead of shocking them. That said I still think this is a much cooler god than the blue god in terms of what people should want out of a legend for EDH. That being that it's interesting mechanically and requires or enables you to create a deck that is different from other legends in its color(s). The blue god may be objectively the better card but it also really boring and maybe the most bland draw god style mono blue deck legend I can think of off the top of my head. Whereas Talrand and Balral are both good draw-go style legends they both enable very different styles of draw go and feel like different decks because of that. Conversely there is no real identity to the blue god. Meanwhile Hazoret has flavor and deck identity in spades, which makes you want to play her despite her weaknesses. Really, I think the deck you built only seems bad through a biased lens of a lot of bonkers unfair decks and power level some want out of EDH, in a meta where most decks are playing relatively fair commanders and deck strategies and not dunking on people with unfair, ultra consistent combos or locks, this would be about on par with other decks. I think you're correct to mention near the end that disruption is important. Any time you are playing soimewhat linear, fair strategies in magic, you have to play cards to stop others from executing unfair strategies. Basically if you aren't playing TPS, you should be playing Death and Taxes. As to Ashling, speaking as someone who literally only had 1 EDH deck for about a year plus a few months and it being Ashling; I feel like they are different decks. You have to commit rather hard to giving Ashling certain important keywords (keywords that are rare or nonexistent in mono-red and thus you need to rely on the few good artifacts that can give her death-touch, life-link and/or pro red) if you want to abuse her or survive a lot of other board wipe/removal. You also need to commit heavily to mana ramp, generally via land ramp and mana flare effects. I found it more profitable with those parameters running Ashling as a more control based build that liked to build a board state but be reactive with cards in hand. Meanwhile this and any good Hazoret deck is going to need to be proactive in building a board state but also in using up it's resources as fast as it can draw them, as well as being able to burn the board without regard for the general without needed to protect it, leading to a much more aggressive deck with the only thing in common imo being that both decks are probably going to be mana hogs and ramp is needed.
Now that we've got a few more sets out since this video was made, are there any additions you'd throw in? I ended up grabbing a few Equipments from the cats deck to throw on Hazoret and make her more steadfast on the field. Grappling Hook is a godsend I find. Within 2 turns it lets me Commander Damage someone out with Hazoret.
I think this is actually a deck that could be tweaked to be more comprehensive. Things like Expedition Map, a couple more eggs, Daretti, Goblin Welder, Extraplanar Len, Gempalm Incinerator, Red Sun's Zenith, Devil's Play etc. Very cool concept, but could use tweaking!
Do you think cards like Elixir of Immortality or Cranial Archive might be good too? As a means of recursion and to counteract against mill or the like?
There is room for A LOT of different cards because I have such a huge mana base to discard. I think you could add low CMC cards but eventually the deck will be one turn slower at activating Hazoret and at that point I think another strategy altogether may be better. This is all speculation though. I'm working from goldfishing data not real in-game experience. My experience with land-chucking commanders puts a lot of value on card advantage because discard is so bad. This commander is really risky and interesting.
I came up with a deck tech for Hazoret as well I went all out on the burn rout the idea is to just play all the relevant spells then discard the rest for hazoret then play wheel effects to reload.
I think you are on to something. My deck can easily be improved by removing the goofy amount of lands and really ramping up the fast paced burn. I like cards like bedlam reveler in this kind of build too.
so I'll just leave a link here for the deck so you can take a look at it, but someone was gracious enough to point out that you can deal infect with grafted exoskeleton so if we get a good engine going with the wheel effects and a couple good attacks in we can kill everyone at the same time instead of being a glass cannon
crumble to dust? molten vortex??? leyline of punishment? ghost quarter? price of progress? all double damage enchantments? this deck sounds kind of sweet
Awesome suggestions. I think I should include sulfuric vortex too ... If I keep making this deck better an better when I do I finally cave in and just change the commander LOL
I think burn decks are actually semi viable in our meta. I have a vial smasher the fierce (no partner) burn deck that has won a couple of games, and purphoros is pretty strong too
I agree with you Purphoros is AMAZING and I have also seen the power of Vial Smasher. I might have been to hard on burn. I have seen X spells with Mizzix and Rosheen be interesting "burn" decks. Heck I own a monoblack deck that tries to win with Drain Life, Exsanguinate, Soul Burn, Profane Command, etc. I might have been to hard on the archetype.
I really like to see faithless looting and Ghirapur Orrery because that means I can have some control over refilling my hand after I discard like crazy.
I will. I loved the Theros gods so I am hyped up for these ... except the first two have been a little bit disappointing. I want a few to be really interesting and playable commander cards.
Jumbo Commander I had an Ashling deck, now Hazoret is the new general and I include some of the cards to enable Hazoret and won my local commander french tournament. I was impressed with the deck and had a lot of fun to play with.

Me while watching this video: ".....SHE.....SHE............SHEEEEE...........SHEEEeeEeEeEeEeEE" (I'm aware you've been well informed that Hazoret is female, just pokin' fun~ )
Hazoret is definitely female.
JACKAL JACKAL JACKAL IS IT A JACKAL? JACKAL JACKAL!
Seriously thanks though spaced on the gender.

What an incredibly entertaining way to tell this deck's story. Great!

This is a sweet build compared to the voltron list that I came up with. Hazoret just seems like such a poor commander it's hard to make anything useful out of her.

Man, i wasn't expecting this, seriously, i was so disapointed by the red god. You are a crazy dude, i love it
Honestly I was too ... but then I remembered how much I love playing with mediocre jank.
Why you didn't put tibalt in the deck? He might just have a place to shine!
Tibalt! Oh he's going in!
Thank you, Jumbo! This video inspired me to make my own Hazoret EDH.
This is awesome! Well done Sir!
thanks for the deck tech jumbo... this is a very deck tech for hazoret... i'll try to make this deck to testplay with my EDH group
I love running Hazoret and ghirapur in my vampires. The synergy is unreal.
Citadel of pain , War Toil , Witch hunt
Awesome, thank you
Have you had any thoughts on Temmeret Yet? Your builds are generally some of the most creative!
I have some ideas brewing but nothing really special I'll need to dig into the card database and find something more unique than making big tokens.
can you please make a deck around Chainer, Dementia Master. he is one of my favorite commanders and I don't see alot of people playing him, thanks.
I love all your video's and think they're all great! I would really love to see your take on a Genju of the Realm deck.
Genju is so cool, so many ways to build. 5 color lands matter sounds really cool. I'll have to think about it. Great idea
I thought of making some funny EDH deck with Hazoret too, but I never thought of doing this. Awesome deck! I wonder if Aggressive Mining could work in this deck.
