  • The Sequoias I germinated in 2019 and 2020 been having a struggle growing in the harsh conditions of my Manchester roof garden.. I planted another 60 seeds this February 2021 and have an over 50% germination success rate.
    Next video is me taking sequoias out of their polypots and planting them out at a local wildlife area. Lets hope they grow on and thrive

    At last, been waiting ages for an update. Fair play you've got loads on the go. Out of my 26 that germinated last year only one survived. Nice to see an update

    I've been watching your progress. Part 1 and 4. I just started doing this myself last night. I'm in michigan and was able to collect pinecone from a few rare sequoia trees growing here. I collected the seeds as the cones dried and am now at the stratification process in the fridge. I have probably 100+ seeds fingers crossed i get a few to germinate!

    During the Winter and Summer it is good to protect the saplings from harsh weather.
    They enjoy filtered light, if possible.
    I love what you are doing!
    Please keep planting!

    Hello from me. I'm trying to germinate gigant sequoia seeds since last summer without success. I collected seeds from trees growing near my location and tried with stratification method putting them first in the fridge, but no one of them germinated. This spring i tried to germinate another seeds (I still have about 50 from last summer) and put them on a soaked kitchen paper in a transparent container, which i kept on my window without stratification. I had a success and have some seeds growing.

    Also, have you had any luck with coastal redwoods after your first attempt?

      No I didn't try again .... though I might do next year

      Yes, Coastals are really stubborn to grow. I've been trying to figure out how to improve my success rate.

      @@burdisnider4206 same, giant sequoia and coastal redwoods have a high mortality rate as seedlings and heaps don’t germinate. Even if you do everything right. Think that’s why they produce millions of seeds

    What temp (about) is your freezer on?
    Currently waiting to see if any of the ones i germinated in moist soil for 30+ days in the fridge will have any success.

  • @alexballstoyou6335
    @alexballstoyou6335 3 года назад +1

    Do you think keeping them in the freezer for a month is better than for 2 days?

    • @fishing-fiend
      @fishing-fiend  3 года назад +3

      No idea -- i put them in and forgot about them. My missus found them and nagged me into potting them up.... the threat of them being thrown out was enough to spur me into action.
