Jaby, you were right in your assumption. In India, as in other countries (most probably), when someone calls themselves a 'theatre artist', the implication is that he/she is involved in performing stage shows in the theatre.
As for the earlier bit about the young-looking mom, Munawar talks about 'Santoor', which is a soap... the ad for the soap shows people mistaking this young woman for an unmarried girl until her daughter comes running up to her calling her mom.
Also, about your thoughts re his crowd work... perhaps if you watched one of his stand-ups in its entirety, it might change your mind.

Well the reason they say 'job' in response to what do you do is pretty much linguistic. At least in Hindi, we say 'I do job' or 'I do study'. So if someone asks you what do you do it's a very legit response to say 'job' or 'study', especially if you belong to that particular age group.
