  • An aerial view of construction (lack of) progress on the controversial HS2 Phase 1 (the only phase that hasn't yet been cancelled).
    This section is from the village of Finmere in Oxfordshire to the village of Westbury in Buckinghamshire.
    Progress since the last video taken in August 2023 has been fairly non-existent - you can't rush a rob when you're milking the magic taxpayer money tree.

    Looking at the state of the land on your videos, it makes me wonder just how much longer and how much more money it will take before the thing is completed.

      I'm sure they can milk loads more money yet. I think the current estimate for Phase 1 is that it may complete by 2042.

      Yeah, sorry about that - the state of the footpaths at the moment is making it difficult to get to all the places needed to create longer, almost continuous, footage, although I have since been able to get a a few more fill in bits of film, that I can append to the start of the video covering the next section :)

      Poor Great Cental Railway. If they had not commited the worst act of National vandalism on the GCR,that would have been the only line needed . I`ll bet that much mess wasn`t made in 1899 when building the London extention.

    • @theboy-uk
      @theboy-uk  8 месяцев назад +1

      @@smithyhouses100 GCR was built with private investment, which meant it was financially viable, and little money wasted. It was value for money. HS2, being built from public money, has at best, dubious viability, and the money wasted is colossal, and every independent report shows it will never provide value for money.

      If they can fill 576,000 seats a day for Phase 1 (Chiltern and Avanti (the other 2 London to Birmingham routes) carried pre-pandemic about 120,000 passengers a day across their entire networks, not just on the London to Birmingham routes), HS2 were promising they would "only" need between 50-60% taxpayer subsidy per passenger (in addition to the 100% taxpayer subsidy to built the pointless project).

      @@smorkeyyy9845 Could be worse, I could be one of the majority of the population paying for this pointless project and unable to use it. As it happens, as I regularly get the train between London and Birmingham, I'm one of the very few who can use it. I still believe it's unnecessary, and an appalling waste of public funds.
      As for NIMBY, nah, its not close enough to me to have any impact once the construction disruption is over.
