To be very honest both the rankers not able to give satisfactory answer. However, in odisha I don't think people learn in odia medium after 10 th. Most of the odia community students are much more capable in writing English rather than fluency in talking with English. And upsc don't need english speaking candidates to run the administration. They want only deserving people who can run and implement govt programs to the grassroot level up to a certain standard. So blaming a govt school and not speaking English Candidate does not justify to get selected in upsc. I don't why people create so much hype about upsc. Anyone with strong dedication and family support can crack easily. Human has no limit until one shouldnot discover his limits.

Main problems is that we are giving more importance to civil service than other profession in India but we have to remember that civil service means public servant or government servant only nothing else,but the some candidates totally forget their position in society after getting succeed in civil services
It's all about Money power!!!!!!! Rich dad arranges private tuition for his child. Receiving parental guidance and tuition from childhood making child's educational background very strong...... ultimate results as IITian, UPSC topper...!!!!!!!!!!! But it is hard for poor dad to arrange private tuition or give family support to be meritorious student. Even after graduation such students struggle to settle and have UPSC preparation without coaching...😢😢

One request to you....Come to the Ground level at least once.Actual scenario of poor family is far different than what you think about it.
It's not about Odia... It's all about from which University you have done your graduation... In UPSC most of the selected candidates are from reputed institutions like DU,JNU and IITs.
Exactly they provide quality basics. And our university did semesters in 3 months interval, that clearly defies the meaning of word semester itself! Isn't it difficult to cover 6 months syllabus to complete in 3 months? Ok we managed. What about evaluation ? Nobody knows how heinous that is! A student wrote nonsensical answers and one wrote appropriate answers got same marks! Nobody will talk about this. Colleges do not even complete 25% of their syllabus. This is a non sense education system, thanks to online platform for providing quality. education.
That's exactly whats been running in my mind . It's totally depends on your surrounding environment. It affects your inner choices more towards practicality that I can Manage a 8- 12 hr highly paid private sector life or I want Govt. Facilities, social status , family status, parents pride and so on

Today's reality is odia language is only classical language but can't be our official language. Now all are proving that whether you know odia or not that doesn't matter but you must have knowledge in English and that's our odisha's education system.
More than 3 decades ago there were two English papers in Odia medium. Geography, science and math books had English word equivalent of terminologies mentioned within brackets. So a student coming out from Odia medium school didn't hesitate to study in college in English medium if in arts or humanities. To put it in short, standard of English papers in Odia medium has declined. So, an Odia medium student cannot compete unless he/she improves English standard studing books outside the syllabus or reading Engilish newspapers and periodicals.
I agree it is hard to remember/understand those english terms for a odiamedium school student in college. it is like studying from the primary school again.
I think Kasturi is very proudy bcz she is an English medium educated, am I right? 1st of all, English medium school pass students are only and only fluent in English, that is it. I must say they face difficulty in solving simple Math, but Odia medium school students can do it in Chutki mei. English medium education does not make you a genius ,or brilliant or your IQ gets better. English language can be mastered if a knowledgeable teacher teaches his students. I have seen the doctors who are English medium passed ,are not better than the Odia medium passed doctors.May be ,Odia medium passed doctor faces interacting with nonOdia patients,but knowledge has nothing to do with the education in English. Many great personalities, famous doctors,IAS officers , advocates etc were Odia educated. In fact, English medium passed students undergo coaching since their 1st step in School,not a single day has been without and without coaching. Coaching in every step , every year for every competitive exam so definitely they can crack. Can Kasturi tell me what is the number of Odia students who had coaching for this exam? And that of the English medium students? I am sure not all Odia medium students could have undergone coaching ,but I can say 100 % English passed Students must have undergone coaching for competative exam. Very small proportion of English medium educated can qualify NEET without coaching ,but Odia medium passed can qualify without coaching. So why take credit Kasturi?

There are students who have studied from govt. school, govt. colleges and cracked UPSC only on the basis of merit. I just gave some examples that candidates with weak financial background have also succeeded in entrance exams. Aur jo aukaat ki baat kar raha hai.. I have qualified Navodaya entrance and studied from Navodaya Vidyalaya till class 12th (completely free). And then cleared JEE Advanced ,,now final year student at IIT Kharagpur and got scholarship based on my merit. My financial condition was not that good. Now you find someone from your family, whether they have appeared JEE mains/ Advanced... tab pata chalega. Talent ho toh koi cheez tumhe rok nahi sakti. UPSC qualified candidates ka list check kar k dekho.. aise bohot milenge jinka background strong naa hote hue v ..they have worked hard and qualified. Agar bade coaching mein padhne se... bohot saara paisa lagane pe IAS ban jaate...then har paisa wala aadmi UPSC clear kar leta. I just opposed your argument that "financial problem is a barrier" .......which is not true. Having a financially well to do background is "cherry on the cake". But agar paise nahi hain v toh... mehnat toh kar sakte ho naa, jyada mehnat karna pad sakta hai. Lekin.. aisa nahi hai ki, paisa nahi hai toh kuch nahi kar paaoge.
This question should put to the selection committee or state government who coch the aspirant, not to a mere and newly achieved persons, They just cracked they have to do more work, who can say they can survive in the cadre and maintain till their retirement

In UPSC most of the selected candidates are from reputed institutions like DU,JNU and IITs.
Exactly they provide quality basics. And our university did semesters in 3 months interval, that clearly defies the meaning of word semester itself! Isn't it difficult to cover 6 months syllabus to complete in 3 months? Ok we managed. What about evaluation ? Nobody knows how heinous that is! A student wrote nonsensical answers and one wrote appropriate answers got same marks! Nobody will talk about this. Colleges do not even complete 25% of their syllabus. This is a non sense education system, thanks to online platform for providing quality. education.
That's exactly whats been running in my mind . It's totally depends on your surrounding environment. It affects your inner choices more towards practicality that I can Manage a 8- 12 hr highly paid private sector life or I want Govt. Facilities, social status , family status, parents pride and so on

More than 3 decades ago there were two English papers in Odia medium. Geography, science and math books had English word equivalent of terminologies mentioned within brackets. So a student coming out from Odia medium school didn't hesitate to study in college in English medium if in arts or humanities. To put it in short, standard of English papers in Odia medium has declined. So, an Odia medium student cannot compete unless he/she improves English standard studing books outside the syllabus or reading Engilish newspapers and periodicals.
I agree it is hard to remember/understand those english terms for a odiamedium school student in college. it is like studying from the primary school again.

1st of all, English medium school pass students are only and only fluent in English, that is it.
I must say they face difficulty in solving simple Math, but Odia medium school students can do it in Chutki mei.
English medium education does not make you a genius ,or brilliant or your IQ gets better. English language can be mastered if a knowledgeable teacher teaches his students.
I have seen the doctors who are English medium passed ,are not better than the Odia medium passed doctors.May be ,Odia medium passed doctor faces interacting with nonOdia patients,but knowledge has nothing to do with the education in English.
Many great personalities, famous doctors,IAS officers , advocates etc were Odia educated.
In fact, English medium passed students undergo coaching since their 1st step in School,not a single day has been without and without coaching. Coaching in every step , every year for every competitive exam so definitely they can crack. Can Kasturi tell me what is the number of Odia students who had coaching for this exam? And that of the English medium students? I am sure not all Odia medium students could have undergone coaching ,but I can say 100 % English passed Students must have undergone coaching for competative exam.
Very small proportion of English medium educated can qualify NEET without coaching ,but Odia medium passed can qualify without coaching. So why take credit Kasturi?

There are students who have studied from govt. school, govt. colleges and cracked UPSC only on the basis of merit.
