Thank you James for upload, but you may need to consider to update this video to show how do you removed the under cover. Thanks for the video on ATF replacement, luckily Ghibli SQ4 looks similar to Quattroporte SQ4. Now I need to order oil & parts to fix my car.
I just subscribed to your channel because I plan to buy a Maserati Ghibli soon. I have to say that you have the nicest looking Maserati from outside. It’s exactly the colour I would like to have. And the 2014 Model has a better logo. The only thing I prefer in the 2017 model is the computer and the generally lower mileage. Anyway, I will also buy a lift and use your videos as a guidance to learn things. Not only will I save money, but I will also learn useful things that a real man should know how to do. This is a great channel. Thanks!
Thank you for the kind words. Lower mileage does not always equate to better reliability. The reason for the low mileage can be due to it being in the shop a lot. At the same time garage queens also are known for having issues because they do not get driven a lot. I would look for something that had an average 10K miles a year on it. That is daily driver miles and those tend to be a lot more reliable as long as they were properly maintained.
I just bought a 2018 quatroporte with 17k miles in it...i didn't test it, is my wife car, trade in a 2016 jaguar xf but i miss the jaguar already. I was looking to buy an XJ but they are not making any now! Even the XF comes out with small engines... The XF is more comfortable to drive than the quatroporte even the Maserati is a foot longer

Yea, if you view my 2nd oil change video, you will see me make a mess because of that hose lol. Next time I will use a hand pump and pump the oil from the dipstick tube and see if I can avert a mess that way. I will do a video on that as well. Thanks for the comment.
You can get them from either Ebay or Amazon. Usually cost around $35.00 with the cap. The cap has a check valve in it. You can get just the filter cartridge for around $15.00, but recommend you get the one with cap. That way you get a new check valve as well.
The Ferrari/Purflux branded filter I got from the local dealer doesn’t seem to allow the cap to pop off. I didn’t realize it until I got home. I was hoping to just do the filter with cap every other oil change. Is there a trick or tool to use to remove the cap? I can’t seem to find this instruction or video anywhere.
@@JamesDIYGarage Thanks for the reply. I was able to remove the cap, apparently there is an "easier" way it pops off if you twist it. I was just afraid to break it if I tried to hard, maybe the unit had been sitting for a while. Yeah I usually get parts for this car on Amazon, Scuderia or Ebay. For my other cars I've also done Rockauto & Partsgeek. I just happened to have a coupon for my local Mazi dealer when I was doing service under Warranty.
Sorry one last question, how did you put the ramps underneath the front tires? I have the exact same ramps but when I try going over it , the bumper of the car will hit it. I see you have them backwards. Did you jack it up all the way on one side and put the ramp underneath?
Yes. I could not drive up on mine either, so I jacked it up and slid the ramp underneath. They are backwards so the jack will fit under the jack points.
dang james, what was your rating in the navy? :) I'm a corpsman, currently looking at maybe getting a base 17 with some nice options and letting a JB4 do the rest.
I can't be certain since I have never tried to use it on a QP, but I have seen the QP in the selection list of Maserati cars supported on the device along with Ghibli and GT.
How is the general upkeep on the Ghibli? I'm thinking of purchasing a '17 or '18 since they depreciate like cement shoes in a body of water and I'm looking for a fun Grand Touring vehicle. Is it okay for maybe 3 or 4 hour stints without much discomfort? I'm used to rather stiff suspension and the like, but I'm more specifically talking about the actual driver seat in the Ghibli over longer distances. I have an SQ4, I use 8.5. I'm pretty sure the RWD Ghibli uses less, like 7 or so. I always buy 10 quarts so I have extra. It's been almost 7K miles since my last oil change where it was full. I am down about halfway to the low mark. That's normal consumption. So the extra will be good. Besides, it is always good to measure what came out, so you know how at least much should go in. DO NOT over fill it. That can cause issues.
@@JamesDIYGarage GREAT! Thanks for the reply. Can I also ask, what are some tell, tell signs of what model SQ4 you have. How do you know if its an all wheel drive or rear wheel drive?
@@5thByrd It has a front drive shaft, and front drive axles, it should also have a Q4 or SQ4 badge on the back left side above the Bumper. The AWD version also has an extra feature in the gauge cluster screen , if you scroll thru the info you will see an image of the drive train with the % of power being applied to front and back. Another characteristic is you can barely fit the engine cover on between the engine and the water tray under the windshield. This is because the engine sits higher in the engine bay than in a RWD version to make room for the front drive shaft.
