- "Dopo notte", an aria that with its devilish rhythm is not easy for the instrumentalists and especially for the singers because originally it was written for the mezzo castrato Giovanni Carestini-. This aria of about seven 7 -aprox. minutes requires capacity for the control of the fiato and the mastery of coloratura ( stacatos, scales, trills, intensity regulations...). It is the typical aria called "da capo", and among the most famous of the Baroque period.
-Franco and Yuriy were 2 of the 6 fantastics countertenors "superbe cast" Artaserse Vinci. Produced by Parnassus arts & Lorraine.and Versailles opera 2012 - 2014. The others CT´s are Max. E. Cencic, Philippe Jaroussky, Valer Sabadus and Vince Yi.
Ariodante (HWV 33) is an opera seria in three acts by George Frideric Handel. The anonymous Italian libretto was based on a work by Antonio Salvi, which in turn was adapted from Canti 5 and 6 of Ludovico Ariosto's Orlando Furioso. Each act contains opportunities for dance, originally composed for dancer Marie Sallé and her company.
The opera was first performed in the Covent Garden Theatre, London, on 8 January 1735.... and the virtouso castrato Carestini, whose astonishing technique and huge vocal range Handel made full use of, especially in the scena "E vivo ancora? E senza il ferro? oh Dei! ... Scherza infida in grembo al drudo" and in the jubilant and bravura "Dopo notte, atra e funesta".

L'ambiance intimiste du concert de Franco l'incite à chanter le bonheur d'Ariodante d'une façon dansante, apaisée, souriante , toute en grâce...Hé oui, c'est aussi un grand acteur , il ne faut pas l'oublier ! Celui qui dit dessous qu'il s'est "assagi" ne le connait pas assez , il adopte simplement son style en fonction des circonstances !
Megabise versus Arbace...Yuryi Minenko, sans cesse et très injustement outsider, mériterait une place au panthéon des chanteurs de ce siècle. Force, clarté, prononciation, vitalité, goût, amplitude. Il a tout pour lui...Sauf un orchestre digne de ce nom et un staff pour l'aider à exploser hors de ses frontières...Dommage! Il concurrence fortement Franco Fagioli pour la virtuosité et l'intention sur ce "Dopo notte" et l'emporte d'ailleurs. Un Franco assagit et paisible qui a eu à coeur de sortir un bijou d'orfèvrerie sans bavures. Magnifique et franchement émouvant.

La voix de franco est très belle, son chant incroyablement raffiné, c'est un pur régal de l'écouter et de le voir chanter .....Et sa reprise de l'air en 2éme partie (le da capo!) est une véritable enchantement !
Et on retourne 2 ans en arrière (ça ne fera du mal à personne) . Je ne m'ennuie jamais avec Fagioli, il est captivant du début de son chant (et même avant!) jusqu'à la fin .Son chant s'écoule harmonieusement, il n'y a jamais de cassures . Il s'amuse avec les notes, les musiciens et ses incroyables capacités vocales, on le reconnait dès les premières secondes ! Quelqu'un ici parle de "génie" . Oui, il l'est , je suis bien d'accord !

Yuriy Minenko has a beautiful voice but not yet the colour versatility and richness of Franco Fagioli.
Fagioli has just overcome himself. Never seen him so perfect as here. Luckily recording also didn't fail.

Je suis de l’avis de Rickie Yuryi Minenko a également une belle voix mais n’étais pas bien filmé .Aussi l’avantage va à Franco Fagioli qui lui était était. mis en valeur et possède une tessiture beaucoup plus grande que Yuryi qui reste agréable à écouter malgré tout.

I'm sorry, Ana, but i think it's unfair to compair two singers in this way.
The Minenko version was not filmed properly, and the sound wasn't very good, and yes, it also had this feel of "still rehearsing" , in tempo and the orchestra was really having a hard time, and had chosen a speedier tempo and weren't as professional and cunning at improvising at a slow tempo as the wonderful musicians that were accompagning our lovely Divo Franco.
There wasn't even audience maybe in Minenko's version; at least camerawise there wasn't any presentation of the expression of the singer at all; we just saw the right side of him from a distance of someone sitting in the audience filming , well, maybe it was you, sitting in the audience that maybe after all was there,in these seats that are behind the stage.
And yes, in terms of unity between the singer and the orchestra keeping up with each other, it was not such a good concert, and the chemistry between the orchestra, conductor and singer wasn't as great as with the greatest of singers, like Bartoli or Fagioli.
But i think Minenko is a different singer, who also has great theatric and comedian skills; if you would have seen him live with Fagioli in Artaserse, you would have known he has great presence, and humor, and he has a voice that is not loved by the microphone, but is actually lusher and deeper as one hears on disc or film.
It just strikes me that the two vids are so different, that i think it's rather lame to compare people in this way, where one version is obviously not as genius as the other. If you could do a comparison between two singers and orchestras that would be more close to each other in virtuosity, and filmed not with one singer somewhere down the hall, and the other in a very professional tv quality film, i would have had a more wonderful time comparing. But thank you for your tribute. Though seeing it launch comments like joke, cheat, screams, from somebody who has obviously never heard the man live, makes me sad.

I’m not sure it’s fair to blame the poster for comments people make on the video. Sure, perhaps it invites comparison, but comparison could be made without resort to the viciousness some exhibit. I personally don’t think the circumstances cast Yuriy in a poor light, nor do I dislike his performance, though the voice sounds unusually light-timbred here. Having not seen either performer live, I’m simply thankful to be able to experience both via videos such as this.
Il est certain que Minenko l'emporte sur Fagioli,mais ce dernier ne démérite pas. Ils sont magnifiques chacun dans leur prestation!

Мне оба не нравятся, но Фаджоли намногл лучше. Не думала, что этот Миненко такой громкий, правда там больше крика .

да, пока ровности нет. и переход на грудной голос ему пока не совсем удаётся. но, в целом, этого "ахаха" он не заслуживает. думаю, ему стоит найти хорошего наставника.
Миненко прекрасен, он талантливый контратенор, его так просто не пригласили бы петь в Артаксерксе. Арии у него небольшие, но чувствуется вся прелесть его голоса. Макс Эмануэль Ценцич так и сказал:в Артаксерксе собрал лучших контратеноров современности!
