It was mentioned and annouced back in the 2020s, and when I saw the date for the Paris Olympics, I was shocked to see it occuring near the end of the 1924 olympics, but 100 years later after it happened (considering I still remember movie scenes from "Chariots of Fire" to this very day). It's sad to notice not many realize there's a 1981 movie based off of the 1924 olympics of two track & field men whom changed the sport forever, which they would go on their own different paths.

The France 2024 Olympics didn't really have a logical stadium to set a game around... the opening ceremony really showed how all over the place the event has been for Paris sadly.
Considering that the amount of money it takes to build one, plus no benefits for the society at large to use them long after the olympics are over, has caused many cities to reconsider spending millions of dollars into facilities that could help other places, not just the olympics....So it's gotten expensive to the point where it's uh, inconvenient and costly to build another one long after many other cities have done it. It's this reason why I wouldn't be surprised if we started building cities over the water at some point in the future.
NooDS was surprisingly good when I tried it out. It has low compatibility right now, but is already running a few games that Drastic can't (Gianna sisters), and its fast-forwarding is also way smoother than Drastic. Drastic's fast forward is atrocious and choppy. I honestly don't know why Drastic is still considered the best on Android when we have emulators like MelonDS and NooDS doing a much better job. I can see how Drastic is better at performing on low-end hardware, but calling it best is a long stretch when MelonDS exists, which has several advantages over Drastic.
DraStic was fantastic during its time when we didn't had good ways to emulate Nintendo DS games on Android many years ago. Good compatible and fast performance even on low-end Android devices, and a nice user interface. But yeah, these days, I use Nintendo DS cores within RetroArch.
I'm kind of annoyed DraStic isn't open source yet. That would help the DS community so much because of how damn fast it is compared to everything else.
If anything it's bad UI. You can't even customize the on screen buttons positions and size etc. You can't just load a game, you have to select it or something and then select to play elsewhere. It's badly designed all over. I don't really blame it too hard for having limited graphics options for how ancient it is, but I do blame people for saying it's good even five years later, let alone now. Imagine spending 5 dollars on that. It wasn't well designed even when it was competitive. They can write an emulator well, I guess, but not an app.
I swear people were cultish over praising that terrible emulator even when it was 5 dollars. In discussions about emulators for PC it was still frequently brought up as if it was helpful to anyone. I have such a bias against drastic because of how people treat it. It is impossible to criticise it without somebody going "b-but it performs well on trash from ten years ago??" and it sucks! No options, trash app, trash UI, outdated, and just until recently costed 5 dollars! If anything, it feels like it performs worse than melonds on my new way overpowered phone. It's outdated. It shouldn't have been considered good past 2016.
I can tell our Mr. Sujano is already very excited for the upcoming COSMIC desktop environment. Also who could have thought emulation power is a sales booster for glued and almost non-repairable overpriced phones?

It’s kind of interesting to see that Nintendo and Sega have unofficially retired the Mario & Sonic at the Olympic games series (coincidentally, the last entry was the last game AlphaDream helped development on before declaring bankruptcy). I’m hoping they take this opportunity to have the two cross over in games that don’t strictly involve sports; something went terribly wrong in our timeline for people to get excited for the Mario & Rabbids entries and get disappointed with each Mario & Sonic entry.
I think the nature of there not being an Olympics videogame this year has to do with both being able to market it as a successful game before the time window and the fact that the top sports games are microtransaction heavy **COUGH** EA **COUGH** which that model doesn't really work with an Olympic affiliated game, so most production studios probably hard passed on it.

To be fair in regards to Olympic Games, Mario and Sonic imo kinda ran its course. London 2012 was the last good one and while I did have my fun with Tokyo 2020, the series lost its appeal. It's probably for the best that they're not making any more of those games. They'll just feel too samey at this point similar to the likes of FIFA, unless they made major changes.
