The first tell on the Katana engine size was the number plate!! Dark green border indicates it is over 250cc. 125-249cc bikes will always have a white plate with no green border. 80-124 is pink, 50-79 is yellow and
250 Katana had 17" 3-spoke wheels with a single disc in front. The one you filmed is a 400. Original 750-1100 had anti-dive gubbins on front forks and single piston calipers. Also the front sprocket cover is different. Otherwise the 400 is extremely faithful to the original. I had 2 1100 Katana's in the early 2000's, one with a oil-cooled 1127cc GSXR1100 engine.
Wow! There’s always someone knowledgeable! Thanks so much for the info. How was the GSXR/Katana Frankenstein to ride? I had a 750 pop up project bike for a while. I’d love to own another.
What's the best way to differentiate between different Katana sizes?
Neat finds! Love those old katanas!
