- Line 3 Scarborough (originally known as the Scarborough RT or SRT) was a light rapid transit line that was part of the Toronto subway system in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The line ran entirely within the eastern district of Scarborough, encompassing six stations and 6.4 kilometres (4.0 mi) of mostly elevated track. It connected with Line 2 Bloor-Danforth at its southwestern terminus, Kennedy, and terminated in the northeast at McCowan. In 2022, the system had a ridership of 4,720,000, or about 17,600 per weekday as of the first quarter of 2023.
The rolling stock of Line 3 consisted of smaller, semi-automated, medium-capacity trains, rather than the larger heavy-rail subway trains used on other lines in the system. Designated by the Toronto Transit Commission as the S series, these were Intermediate Capacity Transit System (ICTS) Mark I trains built by the Urban Transportation Development Corporation (UTDC). The trains were powered by linear induction motors and operate on 1,435 mm gauge tracks, unlike the heavy-rail subway lines and the Toronto streetcar system, which use the unique 1,495 mm Toronto gauge.
The line remained mostly unchanged from its opening in 1985 and contained two of the least-used stations in the system. Beginning in the late 2000s, the municipal government of Toronto was debating competing plans to revitalize and expand the line, to convert its right-of-way for use by modern light rail vehicles, or to close the line and extend Line 2 Bloor-Danforth farther into Scarborough along a different route. In 2013, Toronto City Council decided on a three-station extension of Line 2 to replace Line 3 along a different route. In 2016, in order to free up funds for another transit project, the city reduced the extension to include only one station, which was set to be completed by 2026. In 2019, Progressive Conservative premier Doug Ford reinstated the three-station Scarborough subway extension and committed to completing it by 2030, with all construction costs to be borne by the province.
The TTC planned for Line 3 to cease operations in November 2023, with shuttle buses running in place of Line 3 train service until the Line 2 Bloor-Danforth subway extension to the existing Scarborough Centre station opens for service. However, a train derailment in July 2023 resulted in the line permanently closing four months ahead of schedule. By March 2023, a plan existed to convert a portion of the existing right-of-way between Kennedy and Ellesmere stations into a bus right-of-way, targeted for completion by 2025.
This film is a cinematic ride between McCowan Station to Kennedy Station, and then back.

RIP SRT you will be sorely missed.
Change can be difficult, but it's how we grow. It can be the hardest thing to realize you can't hold on to something forever. Sometimes, you have to let it go. But of the things you let go, you'd be surprised what makes its way back to you. -Anne Boonchuy from Amphibia
Rest in peace SRT.
1985-2023
Good words there 👍
You said it all. Kudos to you.
Goodbye Forever Scarborough RT. You'll be missed by many Scarborough residents.
1985-2023 😢😭💔🌹❤
I can’t belive that the SRT Closed we did not even have a farewell run on it 😢😢😢😭😭😭😭😭😭 I even remember riding it when I was a kid
Gone but never forgotten
RIP SRT
R.I.P. SRT (1985-2023). I was hoping to be able to ride it for the final time when I was in the city last month.
I rode the Scarborough RT a few times in my childhood. I mostly enjoyed it despite the noise. I’m going to miss this line and the UTDC S-series cars.
You should come to Detroit, Michigan, USA. We still have automated UTDCs.
I really enjoyed taking the Scarborough RT when I was able to take the TTC for free as a kid. After the line closed in August 2023 then I have not been on this train for years. I know trips on the train only took 15 to 20 minutes because there were only 6 stations on the line which ran from Kennedy to McCowan Station. The TTC did not make any plans to extend the line east of McCowan Station. This train served the east end of the city from March 1985 until July 2023. It was supposed to close in November 2023 but then it got into an accident so it closed 3 months earlier then it is scheduled.
You may be gone but you are still running in our hearts💙🩵💙🩵
Rest In Peace SRT we miss you!
LETS GET THIS VIDEO TO 2K LIKES BEFORE THE OPENING OF LINE 5

R.I.P SRT (1985-2023)
2.7 Million People in this city, the 4th largest city in North America, and we now only got THREE subway lines
THREE!!!!
I remember riding this train almost every sunday going to Midland station and then take the 57 Midland bus to church. Then I remember taking the RT several times going to Scarborough Town Centre and I went there yesterday by bus and it felt different and weird going Lawrence to Scarborough Town by bus.
R.I.P. SRT you will be missed. (1985-2023)
All we can hope for now is some of the cars being preserved. Fingers crossed.
I'm hoping some of the cars will be donated to the Halton County Radial Railway museum in Rockwood, ON.
this video was banger
I will miss the old days with the RT I ride that since I was young
Happy trails to you, Until we meet again. Happy trails to you, Keep smiling until then.
Who cares about the clouds when we're together? Just sing a song, and bring the sunny weather.
Happy trails to you, Until we meet again.
As Roy Rogers would sing.
RIP Line 3 Scarborough RT (1985-2023)

line 3 a scarbourgh hero
Nice vid and rip line 3 🪦
So sad to see it retire
I didn’t even ride the line 3, but I still miss it
RIP SRT. The first station I've visited was STC, the RT looked much cooler to me than other subway trains. In fact the first clip of transit I've ever recorded was the SRT (that I never got rid of). Thank you for serving me for 15 years. Also, with that question you put at the end, my question is that is it even worth discouraging car use and encourage riding the TTC with inadequate rapid transit? We will just have infrequent, crowded buses.
What music is this when TTC line 3 derailed
Back in 1985, Scarborough centre SRT Scarborough line opened, line 3 update in 2010 then the derailment happened and soon Scarborough will be miss but until it’s 2030 the line 3 is different called the Ontario lane.
Also I was riding in the line 3 Scarborough rt back in 2022 - 2023
One more comment rest in peace Scarborough rt😢
One more comment line 2 extension
From Kipling to Sheppard east
One MORE comment rt from 1985 to 2023
I never got to try it 😢
Line 3 was a unique linear induction line, the only one in Toronto and Ontario. Now, it’s no longer the case. RIP Line 3 (1985-2023)
🙏
rip srt
They literally could have bought new trains 😢 like this is in heard of. Why couldn’t Scarborough get to have network like the rest of Toronto. It should have been extended years ago with new train. I blame city hall for this. The former city of Scarborough had a plan look it up.
The RT did its job, for 40 years nearly without proper maintenance, long term care and vision and through the defunct politicians that could've saved this line, upgraded it to skytrain standards and extended deep into northeast scarbourough, for about the same money they are now building a five billion dollar subway with effectifely less rapid transit for scarborough. And because they did not ever decide ontime what to do, scarborough won't have a subway for another decade. Shame on them.
If you replay the live chat at 34:19, I said the Jays were beating the Rockies 5-0, and guess what????
They blew the lead and lost 8-7! Yay! 😂😐😣😡
Anyway, RIP Line 3… or, Little Blue Line.
I wish the derailment didn't happen
Skytrain’s lost brother. RIP
