Everyone saying how pretty these fish are but man I’m just here thinkin that’s one ugly fish
When I was really young my dad and uncle would set nets in the back water of the Mississippi. They came back one with a load and in it was a smaller Spoonbill that had no bill. They said it was probably hit by a barge or boat but that thing without the bill was the freakiest looking thing I had ever saw.
This is a great way to bump into the one thing you never want to bump into. 👹

Good hunt, but but but... to fully respect the animal, I suggest to stab its head immediately after catching it. It also gives less harshness to the flesh in my opinion, cause adrenaline is low. Nice hunt & cook 👊🏼 you had a good time.

Howdy sir, they cancelled our paddlefish season here in North Dakota this year due to whats going on currently. Paddlefish is some of the best eating in my opinion grilled with lemon juice and red onions then dipped in melted butter. Dang got myself hungry now.
It trickled into Montana too. No season. I was hoping to get back to Glendive again. I'm nearly out of meat from the 66 lb I snagged last year. Wonder if they will raise quota next year or ?

This species is highly imperiled despite what Tim says here. To imply in anyway that paddlefish numbers are strong or high is just a plain lie. Many states no longer allow for harvest (e.g. TX and AL). Some states, like MS, require the larger fish to be released. This species is extremely slow growing and the fact that is after the "big ones", in my opinion, extremely unethical. I would rather my tax and license monies be spent on restoring habitat so the wildlife can take care of themselves instead of relying on fish hatcheries to produce the fish for me. Tim, I know where some catfish ponds are, maybe you could go "slock" some fish in a barrel there?
Great video, it caused me to subscribe. Does anyone know where or how to purchase dart cups for a .625 caliber blowgun? I’ve broken and damaged several of mine, but the dart is still okay I just can’t shoot it anymore.
Not gonna lie as a northerner this was a bit tough to watch due to cultural differences in fish. Up here in the Pennsylvania/Ohio/West Virginia/New York area paddlefish are extremely protected and endangered so seeing all of them getting killed here was a bit disturbing to watch but it's understandable. Down south it's just the normal thing to do so I don't really have a problem with it. Up here I just hope one day I can be lucky enough to see one in the wild let alone kill it.
Hey whats up man, i know you like primitive styles of hunting, and challenges. have you ever thought about picking up a slingshot with a set of flatbands there really fun and deadly accurate when you get good. you can easly take small game, rabbits ect but a company snipersling makes 6 gram darts figured you could modify your own sling dart with a razer style tip for big game

Those are awesome. I found one floating dead in the water a couple years ago that made all those look like babies.

They are a cartilaginous fish. Like you said... they are just like the shark and ray family... fish without a true skeleton. They also have pores just like a shark, called ampuli of lorenzeni that pick up on the weak electrical signals that the tiny schools of plankton they eat put off when they move. As that long bill glides silently over top of a mass of phyoplankton, since it's covered with those pores on the underside of it... it tells the brain "I need to open my mouth to catch this food!!!" As the water passes through the mouth and out the gills, the modified gill rakers are used to trap, seine out, and gather all of those tiny crustaceans it eats that are caught by using this type of basking shark or whale shark-like method of filter feeding. That huge fish got that big by SLOCKING big ol' school of invertebrates almost to small to see without magnification...

Love the way Tim hunt, it's pretty easy to hunt with a rifle and scope, but when you have to be up close, like with a bow, it's another thing, wouldn't mind trying blowgun and spear, but it's not legal here in the Philippines, where I live.
