Hi! Awesome videos! I was wondering if maybe you can do one on proper dosing or recommendations for iron supplementation? I come across it a lot in my field of nutrition (bariatrics)
Hey Megan! Thank you so much for watching. This is definitely something I can look into. I’m always looking for new topics that people are interested in.
I thought a 24 hour recall was that. What they ate in the last 24 hours. Not the “usual” intake in a 24 hour period. Also, do you have a reference that a thumb is 2 T.? My thumb is < 1 T.
It can be the past 24 hours or the usual intake. The past 24 hours doesn’t always make sense if the past 24 hours aren’t reflective of a typical day, which is almost always the case in the acute care setting. For the visual guides, those aren’t official measurements that you’ll find tested or detailed in the literature. They’re just rough approximations. I’ve seen it listed/illustrated various ways that you’re free to adjust to whatever makes sense for you. For example, my thumb (the whole thumb, not just the tip) is closer to 2 T than it is to 1 T.
@@avon1243 You can keep it to the past 24 hours only and maintain usual intake as an entirely separate concept and tool. I respectfully disagree with that, and stand by the way I’ve presented it in the video.

@@clinicalnutritionuniversity I don’t see how usual intake can provide an estimate of kcal and protein
@@avon1243 Why not?
@@clinicalnutritionuniversity because usual intake isn’t a 24 hour recall. I get a whole list of items when I ask “ what do you usually eat?”
