The purpose is to return recyclables so they can go back to the original sellers. By doing this, they reward you with a 10 cent refund for every returnable.

OMG that’s amazing! Unfortunately, there’s no program like that in California. It’s just recycling centers that give refunds by pounds of recyclable.

In Massachusetts its only 5 cents 🥲
Most places that accept returnables give 5 cents. In Michigan and Oregon, they give you 10 cents.
