  • Toronto Pearson International Airport is the largest and busiest airport in Canada. Located in Mississauga, Ontario, it is the main airport servicing the Toronto metropolitan area. It served 12.7 million passengers in 2021 and In July 2022, the Toronto Star rated the airport the worst in the world for delays. I walk through Terminal 3 from the Check-In area to my airline gate, and I had a rather poor experience with customer service.

The airport staff needs to be more professional with how she interacts with customers. It's very inconvenient that they don't check in your luggage at the counter, and you have to do it yourself at another area. Sorry that you didn't have a pleasant experience, and this footage is evidence for the Toronto Star's poor review of the airport. Hopefully, they will improve their services in the future. I live in Canada, and I can assure you it hasn't always been this bad. Basically it started this summer when travel boomed for the first time in 2 years...BUT...I don't trust Pearson Airport right now. I flew to Scotland at the end of June, from Nova Scotia..with a layover in Toronto Pearson Airport. My luggage never made it to Scotland..along with 50 other people's suitcases. I didn't receive my suitcase back until almost a month after I returned home from my trip. From now on, it will be carry on only for me! 🙄

When flying from Canada to the U.S. at an airport where there is U.S. Immigration/Customs pre-clearance (passengers arrive in the U.S. as domestic passengers and don't need to go through additional formalities and can walk out), the airline is not supposed accept checked bags on behalf of the passenger (with the exception of connecting flights where the airline sends the bags to U.S. customs directly). Instead, the passenger is required to "submit" their bags on a conveyor belt that leads directly to the U.S. customs area. Only once the passenger has cleared U.S. immigration/customs pre-clearance is the bag released by U.S. customs back to the airline for loading onto the plane. In some cases, U.S. customs may request the bag to be sent back upstairs to the inspection area should they want to take a look inside while the passenger is present.

And they just raised the airport fee's, so people will notice their tickets to Toronto will be higher in airport fee's now. Pearson is Air Canada's hub so if you fly with them they get priority over other airlines and have gates closer to the customs etc. Also there's self serve check-in kiosks. You scan your passport and enter details and the machine gives you the baggage claim tags and you take it to the automated self baggage check-in.
