I find your videos so helpful, even though I'm a man, the way you explain your fashion choices is so crystal clear and easy to follow...these are the type of tips we need to dress well...I wish someone did this for men but until then you will continue to be a huge source of fashion inspo for me...the long grey coat was my fav.
Hi Lydia, thank you for your videos, I’ve been watching them for a few months now while I try and create my capsule wardrobe. So pleased to find I’ve just bought a long coat very similar to your first grey coat only in black. I can’t afford to spend £400 pounds on a coat as I’m retired so mine was £80 (reduced) and has a high percentage of wool as well! Thanks again! ❤
The shorter coat with skirt and barrel leg jeans outfits. I get it now!!! Loved both those outfits. Winter skirts please - a video on how to style skirts in winter.
This was really helpful, thank you! I already have variations of all three coats so feel sorted for autumn/ winter (thanks for showing us how to use pieces we already have rather than going out and buying more)! Great you included the more casual puffer coat too, as this tends to be what I wear most often. Wouldn’t say no to more styling options for all three..!
I just moved here to the USA and not so happy with the temperature right now! ❄️ this video helps me a lot to choose whats best coat to get during winter, I might consider first the price. But thanks.
I realize it’s challenging to narrow coats down to three but I was surprised there wasn’t a raincoat here. Not a disagreement, just surprised. I am a big fan of your videos and your classic style!
Really liked the long grey coat, Lydia. I always watch your videos to get some good style advice and like your minimalist, understated but always well considered choices. Like the way you work with the architectural shapes of clothes. You do always say that you are not telling us what to buy - just making suggestions as to what we might consider and may already have in our wardrobes!
This video is amazing, of corse. Be sure we always appreciate the thought and work you put into these videos! I would love more styling options for the short black coat (or this kind of coat style) and more specifically what coat to style with different skirt types maybe.
I love this type of video - does a lot of heavy lifting for me. Like many here, I have these 3 types already. Fwiw, I did not think for a second you were recommending new purchases.
I ordered a Marcela MIR coat this month. Have heard so much about this brand from you, eager to check it out live. And I love the padded coat you showed us - a great shape. Thanks for the video!🤍
Would you suggest sizing up when you buy a coat? It’s tricky to get one that suits both a tee or a thick knit underneath without it looking either too big or too small. That’s what’s putting me off looking for a coat 🤦🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
First coat loved it, my favourite shape and style coat. I don't tend to do my coats up, I like the layered look and will wear one of those extra long scarves. First coat I also wear a hoodie for the fashion look would never up it, but it looks good over that 1st coat. Love long coats slightly oversized. I am about 5ft 5 but I get away with them, looking good on me. The second coat shape I also have love when it's really cold. Not a fan of really short coats, for me it's a jacket or midi length. Good vid love that 1st one😊
I live in a warmer climate, so Massimo Dutti wool coat with belt would be a perfect winter coat. (I'm 5'2"). I loved all your choices even the ones that wouldn't suit me. You are the perfect model. Thank you.
I love your style and appreciate all your hard work on the channel. Can we get more of (x) styled 5 ways for fall/winter, dos and don'ts, or something like that? Sometimes when you tubers release a number of "buy these" lists in a row the channel starts to feel like more of an infomercial. These lists are useful, but also want to see your unique perspective with what you have interspersed since you have a POV that should be celebrated 😊
Thank you Lydia, super handy! I've got a question for you: how do you style blazers with coats? When it's super cold I really find myself in a riddle, it seems like is either one or the other..!
I’m in Minnesota, all of these are lovely and work well if I’m just popping in and out of doors quickly. Do you have any tips for those of us who do regularly deal with -23 degrees Celsius in the winter?
Hi jiloeppke, I read your question to Lydia and I live in Michigan where the winter temperatures can also be frigid. Have you ever tried "32 degree" tops and bottoms to wear under your shirts and pants? As soon as the weather gets cold here I pull them out of storage. You can feel the warmth immediately after putting them on. I have found them at Costco at a very reasonable price. I hope this is helpful for you. ❤
I absolutely love how long that first coat is on you. You may have done it in previous videos, but a height reference for you might be helpful. Where that first coat hits your legs is even more elegant than this in the cutaways/model images.
I agree re purchasing a puffer type warm coat now before ww3 affecting imports and increasingly low temperatures coming. My city is already colder and I purchased 2 down costs with gold buttons and preppy style which suit me for now and future.
Creative idea to to wear the shorter coat with a skirt, at first it seems counter-intuitive but you're right, I can look really great. Puffer made me smile--where I live it's the uniform for 6 months of the year + cold summer nights, but I don't find down filling or synthetic comfortable on my skin. I spend lots of fashion-research time figuring out layers so that I don't have to wear a puffer coat to keep warm, even in -25C! But it's true: it really is the easiest way if you want one-and-done :)
I think you are missing a leather or faux leather coat either a trench coat or a biker or bomber jacket if you have long coats in the smart category for fall winter I would have said one long wool smart coat one leather coat trech or cropped and a fur coat I think you do need a puffer type coat too though so probably 4 essential coats for this season ❤
As always, so informative! I'm wondering about short puffer coats. I find them quick and easy for running errands when I'll be in the toasty warm car and then into and out of stores, which can be very cold in New York. What are your thoughts on them?
Of course, same color from head to toe is the easiest way to look put and elevated and harmonious I am already struggling ( financially we can’t offer what would make us always effortlessly chic) with pairing shoes with b bags and I am not saying all king of colors or textures 2-3 items from mid range brands and you are at 500€ (700$) and so on
What type of coat would go best with a knitted long skirt that is tight on top but has a loose hem below the knees - mermaid like? I love the skirt and wear it with knee high boots underneath but struggle with coat/jacket to go with it. Anyone maybe has an advice? The skirt in in off-white creamy colour
I find it very deceiving that Marcela’s website does no mention the lining material. Does not matter weather it is 100% wool / cashmere on the outside if you are wrapped in plastic - polyester.
Sorry, what? The skirt and the long grey coat were perfect together, also don’t see a problem with the length here, maybe if the difference was bigger, it could look odd, but if the coat is longer, thats not an issue, because you are wearing a coat closed in real life, not open, so the skirt is not visible.

A straight slim coat has always been more acceptable from the 1930s onwards sometimes with bigger shoulder pads. The waisted coats flaring out are hideous imo.
It’s no longer the 18th century, so you don’t have to clean the streets with your clothes. The break on your pant is too much. I hope you are planning to have them tailored.
New purchases constantly is off putting. Not all of us are still working in well paid careers. Mine was a very successful career but working for the good of my country did not pay as well as my friends were earning for their own benefit solely. I looked great but it was by intelligence not the expenditure Lydia is showcasing.
This video is meant to help narrow down purchases so that people don’t waste money on expensive coats that don’t work hard enough in their wardrobes. I’m not suggesting to go out and buy all coats at all, the video is talking about the 3 shapes that will complete your wardrobe that you can build up over time. I think these three styles are ones that many people may already own at least one of, so it’s just about then completing your wardrobe without wasting time and money on coats you won’t wear because they are either repeats of what you have or don’t go with enough. Maybe it is my fault for not making it clearer, but I thought that the concept was explained 🙈. Sometimes if I say all of the above then people comment saying I talk too much! This is also why I include options for all price points too. Thousands of people are watching these videos so catering to everyone individually is not the aim, and impossible! 🙈 My videos are made to act as a guide for people to then take away what works for their lifestyle or not. I just wanted to share that in case it doesn’t come across as much as I want in the videos! I really work hard on the styling aspect, narrowing down shapes and types that fit all, so it’s not about then going to buy the one I own, but working those tips into your own life ❤
Please rewatch and note her comments that we may already have these type of coats in our closet. Also, whether you work for the good of your country directly, or for your own benefit, you still are working for the good of your community and the country as a whole by paying taxes, providing your services to others and by staying off benefits.

Love the grey Marcela coat too! The color was beautiful! It wasn't too light nor too dark in color. It was the perfect shade of grey. 🖤🤍

Many women roll up the waist of their fashion skirt if it’s slightly longer on her than the coat, easy.
Yes definitely will work with some skirts! ❤
