Tim Minchin wrote a lot of these songs so it's no wonder that they are so lyrically and musically unique. He has such a knack for that melding of quirkiness into his songs. Check out him doing the "Three Minute Song" and you'll get a sense of where this came from. As to doing more of these type of reactions... Hell Yeah! This was fantastic. I would love to see you do a break down of Les Misérables, particularly Philip Quast as Javert. His version is quintessential and the way he delivered on the arrangement is just a master class in musical theatre.
i also believe he implied basing Matildas songs off his daughter, who is on the autism spectrum. i feel like it really reflects in Quiet, thats why it resonated with so many neurodivergent, traumatized, and disabled viewers.
Emma Thompson was the lead in the first West End show I ever saw (along with Robert Lindsay) -- Me and My Girl, in around 1985. It was her big break. I still remember her, Robert, and all the Pearly Kings and Queens pinching my cheek and calling me gorgeous during the Lambeth Walk. I'm just grateful I didn't get kicked out of the theatre for singing along to all the songs at the top of my 6yo lungs! Fond memories :)
Lashana Lynch’s voice in the song about her shed made me cry between her voice, her facials, and the context. Even just watching that little bit in your video had me in tears!! But the kind of tears that are more in awe of how pure and beautiful the performance was
That's what I love about you and your reactions you make everything understandable for us all and show the emotions you feel its beautiful just like you x
Ohhh...loved the reaction and format, you're so funny and witty, can't help but smile and giggle along! Waiting to see this with my boys. Show them how good they actually have it. Ha.😊
It was an impressive video. I really like this idea of revisiting musicals, and it would even be great if you did a comparison between musicals from various decades, from a century ago to today. More than one of your followers may never have heard of Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly, Dean Martin... Not in vain, the 40's/50's were years in which the musical genre reached impressive heights. I imagine that the biggest problem is the magnitude of such an analysis, but it is also very likely that you can find a real evolution in the way of singing of the artists... Anyway, whatever you do, you do it in such an enjoyable way that I'm sure all of us who see your work will be gratifyingly pleased. A big hug from Spain
I think this video is my favorite of all the ones before. It was real and expressed a natural flow of who you truly are to yourself and the world. You would make a grand confident mum.
I'm so glad to finally see someone pointing out that Emma did really well, most reactions I've seen said that her singing was the part of the movie they didn't like. Emma has been my favourite actress since forever, so to be fair I'm probably very biased, but I thought it was very impressive for someone who definitely is an actor first and not a singer who can act. The character voice was great and very fitting imo. I knew she could sing from the 2017 Beauty and The Beast (as Mrs Potts) and a production of Sweeney Todd at the Lincoln Center (as Mrs Lovett). I even found out that she was in the musical Me and My Girl when she was still young and not really known well. So yes, I know she definitely wouldn't call herself a singer, but singing has accompanied her career enough over the years to prove that she's capable enough to be asked to do projects where singing is required again and again. This was a very nice breakdown of why this particular performance worked really well, put my thoughts into words exactly, thank you!
Emma's character reminds me of all of the nuns I encountered in the Sixties. Toe the line. Feelings not allowed. How nice to have our FVM to feel all of the feels. This is what we come to expect. The shirt is just the cherry on top.
You are without a doubt my new favorite reactor!🙂 Your videos are so clever and the energy and comprehensiveness just make me smile so huge! I wish I knew someone like you! 🙂🌹
Loved the video as I knew I would. I'm watching this at 2 am after long hours of work, and I'm still interested and not sleepy at all! Excellent work. I could say it's fairy voice magic.
Many people who are surprised that Emma Thompson can sing missed when she was Miss Lovett in a PBS version of Sweeney Todd with Bryn Terfel and Audra McDonald. It’s underrated and definitely a musical theatre nerds unknown dream to see.
when I saw you were reacting to this movie I stopped your video and watched the movie first. Loved it and as usual your reaction too. I thought it amazing they were able to find such a large group of children with so much talent in singing, dancing and acting as well.
Took me a few days to finally watch this because I wanted to watch the movie beforehand! Even though this video is over a half hour long, it absolutely flew by. It was kept entertaining, and you kept it moving/flowing along in your unique way.
This is sooo incredible, dit not know this movie ! You are a star with the way you take appart all the techniques. Love the humour. This movie looks harsh but nice and wooow... Emma Thompson is so wooooooooow ! (on another note, in a future, hopefully you can do MB14 beatbox with looping ;) )
Lashana Lynch was AMAZING as Miss Honey. I loved her performance so much, The patter Emma Thompson does in "The Smell of Rebellion" reminds me a lot of "Not Getting Married Today" from Sondheim's Company. The breath control needed for both those songs is next level.
Wow! I started watching your videos because of Devin Townsend, Jinjer and Slaughter to Prevail. I've never thought you would react to my favourite musical as well, you're gorgeous, thank you so much for this video! You would definitely enjoy seeing it on West End ;)
Loved the movie and your reaction/analysis! And I agree with the people below recommending composer Tim Minchin, if not for a voice analysis so for your own enjoyment. Prejudice, Confessions, White Wine in the Sun are just some of his great songs
❤️ I love listening to a Cockney accent. Talk about ear treats! I had the honor of learning the accent for a community theatre production. The character also had the honor of being a burglar. It was the most interesting part and learning the accent was fun.
Fairy Godmother this was a pleasant surprise so glad you reacted to it. Have you seen the West End musical Matilda? It has been running for 10 years now. I was bothered by Miss Honey's "My House" as well for the reasons you mentioned. I only follow 2 singer-songwriters Tim Minchin the songwriter and lyricist for Matilda the Musical who also wrote an additional song for this movie adaptation of the musical is one. (Avi Kaplan the founding bass singer for Pentatonix is the other one). Tim is a fascinating multifaceted composer and lyricist (also comedian, singer, actor among other things) who knows all about being judged by your accent - Tim is Australian. Tim also wrote the music and lyrics for the musical "Groundhog Day" which is being made into a movie next year. Tim himself played Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar the Arena version. The trouble with reacting to that is that Andrew Lloyd Webber had the DVD autotuned for all the singers I believe. Here is a tribute show for Tim Rice that has a live performance by Tim Minchin you can hear of "Heaven On Their Minds". ruclips.net/video/q5kqVtSbFY8/видео.html
It is so interesting how you experience what I experience in America as an Appalachian from southeastern Kentucky. People have used our accent to portray stupidity, poverty, and meanness as long as media has existed. It’s ridiculous. I am an Appalachian with a graduate degree and I also talk like a hillbilly 😁
So I was super excited for this musical because I adore the original 90's Matilda, but oh man, this hit SO much harder. Just sucked me right in, and still hasn't let go, I don't want it to. The songs were awesome, Miss Honey's made me bawl, Quiet almost got me because I do that myself too, and the huge number at the end I was grinning from ear to ear. I seriously don't even think I can watch the original anymore. Seriously this is my Matilda now.
Soimtimes yuv gaut to be a lil'bit noughty! Indeed. I honestly had not noticed the cockney in you luv, must have been all the ambulances :D Lovely video, liked the format, must have been a ton of editing work. Cheers.
I really loved your video, and your personality is just very relatable :) The analysis and the background info were very interesting, I didn't know they recorded the vocals live. The description of Emma Thompson is too accurate👌 also, I'm sure you have a lot of recommendations, but I'd be down for an analyzes video of Harry Styles live performances/vocals. edit: jokes on me for commenting before finishing the video. yes to more musical movies :D Tick, tick, BOOM..., Spirited, Encanto, In the Heights and I know it's not a movie musical per say, but the pro-shot of Come From Away came out in 2021.
FVM, what a surprise! your analysis to a movie! The result: I want to see the movie Mathilda and I surely will. Thank you, dear FVM, and thank you Netflix 😊
I hear some beautiful overtones in your gorgeous singing voice Miss Fairy Voice Mother. Very high and pretty. I was wondering if you have tried overtone singing? Oh and Emma rocks 😊

Well you had me at being adopted and moving into a big mansion.. Where do I sign up? Also, I think ( Or at least hope ) These kid had a blast being part of this. Hard topic, and some darkness to it. But being a kid running around doing this with hopefully adults who understood they are kids is something they would think back on always. One of those childhood things you just never forget.
Im glad I saw this review because i thought there was a Rob Zombie Dragula scene so i was going to watch it. Now I know and can save that time. Thanks Gorgeous!
To be honest, I kinda avoided this movie since I thought it might just ruin the nice memories attached to the original Matilda. But jesus, everything you highlighted in this video sent chills down my spine and I had to keep myself from tearing up in a bus full of people in the first part. Guess I gotta watch it now, can't believe Netflix has put something good on their platform. Thank you for the recommendation.
Your first mistake was to assume this movie is a remake when in reality it has zero to do with the Matilda movie. It is a film adaptation of the Westend musical whose script sticks very closely to the book unlike the American movie which butchered the book completely
I think the East End/Cockney accent is because it's typically associated with working class, wheeler dealer types, like Mr. Wormwood... It's the kind of accent you'd classically expect from someone working a market stall or whatever... He's an aspiring salesman, but without the class you'd expect from someone with more "culture"... They're the types who care more about TV than books... It makes sense that his wife would be of similar character... Style over substance... Of course they don't represent all people from such an origin, but it really fits their type of characters... It fits the way their dialogue is written in the book too, if I remember correctly... I wouldn't say it was based on Only Fools and Horses, so much as they were both based on a similar type of character... I mean Del was dishonest, but he was generally a nice guy... Mr. Wormwood is more on the sleazy end of things.
I know you have done Pentatonix Daft punk Medley, but did you notice there is a live version (Pentatonix Daft Punk mix private performance) uploaded may 2016 by Nick Riddell.
have you ever gotten to see Matilda preformed in the musical/theatre setting, I saw them a few months after they were going in london and i really love how it was staged :) (especially school song)
Wonderful reaction! I don't know if you could do this on your channel, but just for your own enjoyment you really must watch Tim Minchin (songwriter/comedian who did all the music for Matilda) singing "Prejudice"! Trust me; it isn't about the Cockneys, but it still will lie close to your heart ;) ruclips.net/video/KVN_0qvuhhw/видео.html
I 100% endorse this. Tim’s performances for me are more about his songwriting and virtuosic piano work than his vocal performance. He sings well, but not virtuosically. As a result, there may be less to discuss. That said, I’d love to see your reaction.
Not Prejudice, it was written in 10 minutes while he was sat on the toilet and is his most regretted and least favourite. Thank you God or lullaby are much better choices
Now that is something I would definitely enjoy. Having listened to them for a couple of years now, I've never seen a reaction to their music before. What could be better than the Fairy Voice Mother having a go-at-it.
Ooh ... your talk of speak/speak-sing/sing brought a movie musical to mind: Rocky Horror Picture Show with Tim Curry (one of my favourite character actors) from ... 1975 😱
I'd be interested to see your take on the numbers from the original 2013 stage show. In the stage show, Miss Trunchbull is usually played by men. Have you seen Schmigadoon? Everyone in the show sung live. But then again, the cast includes Kristen Chenoweth, Allen Cumming, Aaron Tveit, and Ariana Debose.
That was a lot of fun and definitely something you should do more of. As a suggestion...I know you enjoy the skills of beatboxers so here is one who not only has quite a repertoire of sounds, but he does them while driving...and with passengers! ruclips.net/video/kZWYnl12hNE/видео.html
I'd also be interested in seeing your reaction to the proshot of Heathers the Musical on Roku. Also, Emma Thompson singing in the 2014 production of Sweeney Todd
love your reactions. you have react to pau from the warning playing piano and singing creep. you will be blown away. all live .the waring army is eagerly waiting
You should check out Lauren Babic - Toxic (brittney spears cover), you would love her, her voice is so beautiful and its a real treat to listen to her.
I would love for you to react to Alex Newell. Maybe random black girl singing a song, or I know where I've been he sang them live with the gay men's choir. Or his tony awards performance of once in this Island. I love to see voice teachers react to him because they don't know how his vocal cords are able to do what they are able to do. He refers to himself as he or them but his vocal cords are able to hit notes that only females technically should be able to.
This was a film. Since before any of this matters. So what I get get from you you, Is that they have changed it all so much that it is not not the original film.
I'd love to hear your analysis of Cakra Khan's cover of Tennessee Whiskey. I don't think I've heard anyone talk about the vocal skill and techniques behind hat jazzy husky raspy style of singing.
Since you seem to like emotional musical performances I would like to recommend a Swedish song called "Du måste finnas" performed by Helen Sjöholm. It is from the musical "The emigrants", the song is about a woman questioning her faith for the first time in her life after so much suffering. It is both a damnation of and a pleading with god. The musical was written by Björn and Benny from ABBA. There is a English translation of the song but it looses a lot being translated even if it is the same singer doing the performance. And there is English subtitles so I doubt it will be a problem, to be honest, you would probably understand the meaning without understanding the lyrics at all. How about Danny Devito In the original movie. And how powerful Mara Wilson was in her acting against stars as rhea Perlman. This isn’t a movie to be dismissed, this is a movie against it’s time.

I blame Tim Minchin for the emotional rollercoaster. It is that simple melody with powerful lyrics that just hits deep every time…

Skills, diverse knowledge about different characters’s voices and what a musical is. Than you for this novelty!
On top of what you already said, consider that Emma Thompson was doing that singing while moving around with a fat suit and prosthetic makeup.

Lashana Lynch was AMAZING as Miss Honey. I loved her performance so much,

You should do a reaction to the band the warning. 3 sisters from Mexico. Start with either survive at tedx or dust to dust at linario
Now that is something I would definitely enjoy. Having listened to them for a
couple of years now, I've never seen a reaction to their music before.
What could be better than the Fairy Voice Mother having a go-at-it.
Love it! And you ((HUGS))
Yey, Tim Minchin is a Genius! Glad you got to react to his work...
He is! As soon as I finished filming I realised I actually hadn’t mentioned Tim Minchin at all 🤦♀️ what a poo poo head. So glad you liked this 🥰
Hi, Fairy Voice Mother, hi Matilda producers, technicians and artists, hi Netflix! Matilda is the next movie I’m going to whatch,
I do believe I’m in love!! 😍😍🤣
Ooh ... your talk of speak/speak-sing/sing brought a movie musical to mind: Rocky Horror Picture Show with Tim Curry (one of my favourite character actors) from ... 1975 😱
You should also review Into the Woods!
I wouldve loved to see your reaction to the last Song that matilda and miss honey sing together
I'd also be interested in seeing your reaction to the proshot of Heathers the Musical on Roku.
Also, Emma Thompson singing in the 2014 production of Sweeney Todd
Here she is singing Have a Little Priest

love your reactions. you have react to pau from the warning playing piano and singing creep. you will be blown away. all live .the waring army is eagerly waiting
OK, I guess I found a movie to check out.
You should check out Dr. Horrible's sing along blog
You should check out Lauren Babic - Toxic (brittney spears cover), you would love her, her voice is so beautiful and its a real treat to listen to her.
Hello, you really should react to dlow gbb showcase 2021.
I didnt like the songs in the movie as much as in the theater versions ive seen on youtube...
But this video made me appreciate it a lot more :D
Emma also was an amazing Misses Lovetts in Sweeny Todd
She ended up with “Miss Homey” who loved her unconditionally..
Have you seen any of Tim Minchin's personal work? Apart Together is an extraordinary album.
This was a film. Since before any of this matters. So what I get get from you you, Is that they have changed it all so much that it is not not the original film.
React to 'If only' by Hiss, Alexinho, River' and Colaps. 4 beatbox world champions on a massive track!:)

From the mind of the ridiculously talented Tim Minchin.
React pls to vocodah - headbangers and vocodah - american beatbox champion
3:50 " 'you know nothing about films' " Well then, maybe you should get started on that.
I would love to watch you react to more movies.
How about Danny Devito In the original movie. And how powerful Mara Wilson was in her acting against stars as rhea Perlman. This isn’t a movie to be dismissed, this is a movie against it’s time.
Pleased do a reaction to Piet Arion - SOS d'un terrien en détresse. And a little hint, no sip of Tea ;)
