When Trump took office, the unemployment rate was 4.5% & falling. For his first full year, Trump left the Obama economic policies in place & the rate continued to fall to below 4%. But, in December 2017, Trump had the GOP Congress pass his economic program with the tax cuts for the rich as its main feature, to take effect on 1/1/18. He said it would pay for itself & give us GDP growth of 5-7% for years to come. Instead, the moment it took effect, deficits & debt exploded. By summer, they said it would not pay for itself. Over the following year, the debt continued to grow & choke the economy into a recession that began in August 2019. Today, he says the pandemic caused the recession, but in August 2019, we had not even heard of the pandemic.
The debt continued to grow & by the time he left office, he had added $8 trillion dollars to our debt, far more than any other President in history. When he left office, the unemployment rate was 6.3% & rising & he had become only the second President in history to leave office with a negative job creation record. When he left office, the country had been in recession foe 18 months & he had not taken a single action to restart the economy. Instead, he handled the pandemic as disastrously as he handled the economy. The difference was that instead of losing jobs needlessly, we lost hundreds of thousands of lives needlessly.
The individuals interviewed here were conditioned to not watch & not trust any media outlet except those that praise Trump ceaselessly. Those outlets are owned by wealthy individuals who know Trump is a charlatan & a liar, but they are competing to become, if he wind, Trump's Josef Goebbels, Minister of Propaganda. The two who don't head up the ministry would become US oligarchs with ties to dictator Trump, so they are content to tell his lies & hide his crimes from the cult.
Naturally, some Trump supporters have become aware thar he is a liar, a con artist & a criminal. But, many have intentionally remained loyal because they also know that he is a racist, anti-Latino, a misogynist (who said in 2016 that when he meets any woman, he cannot really speak with her or hear her until he first goes through a process to decide whether he would have sex with her), anti-LGBT, anti-Muslim, etc., and they are, too -- so, they are willing to ignore his incompetence, his betrayals of the country, the destruction of the economy & his toadying behavior with dictator & war criminal Putin, because they believe he will do more harm to minorities.
