USC faces backlash after canceling valedictorian's speech

- Amid complaints about alleged antisemitic views posted online, USC's valedictorian will not be permitted to deliver a speech at the university's commencement ceremony due to concerns about security, the school's provost announced today.
AIPAC should be required to register under FARA…Stop foreign election interference.
Hear! Hear!
What about CAIR? The Islamic group and political PAC (CAIR) raise millions and wield too much power in the U.S. Their leader has previously made anti-Israeli statements, claiming that Israel does not have a right to self-defense and saying Israel should be “terminated” as a country. In addition, he refused to call Hamas a terrorist organization. This organization has been indoctrinating youth and who knows where their millions come from. How much funding are they getting, even if indirectly, from terrorist organizations?
American religious Muslims need to make a choice. Don't flee from a country where you had no rights due to religious extremism and then try to rebuild that same situation here. I count non-religious Muslims as some of my favorite people, and they are now at risk because religious extremists are trying to take western countries backwards. Look at London and some other parts of the UK: morality police, sharia, abuse of women and girls, blasphemy laws, polygamy, abuse of other religions, homophobia, takeover of institutions, etc. It's going in a very dangerous direction.
lol Hamas are billionaires so why are we feeding their people

She was spewing Anti-Israel comments. Maybe been deleted.
She didn't 'say'.. The speech was merely not approved for commencement, her intended abuse of (extraordinary) privilege was simply thwarted.
I wonder if she had to let them know in advance what the speech was or was their decision based on her posts on Twitter?
They have to submit the speech for approval
According to the statement, it was just social media posts
Doesn’t matter, plenty of people make threats and say all manner of nasty nasty things online and when they go beyond the threshold of normal speech, someone knocks on your door. Employers fire people all the time for online rhetoric, schools discipline students for online antics. Courts and even congress routinely look at social media to see what a person in front of them in involved in. A graduation speech is no place for politics and hate. She disqualified herself with her words. It’s not complicated at all. All the people in here pitching a fit had nothing to say when Alex lost a billion dollars for saying hook was a cover up. Trump lost 80 million for saying a woman was writing a book. These people cheer when conservatives are punished for words, yet they cry outrage when a liberal or democrat are accused by their own actions. This insanity needs to stop. Yes we have free speech, but that literally does not give anyone a right to say whatever they want, without consequences. This is an example of those consequences. Terroristic threats and calling for violence are also not protected speech and are absolutely illegal.
Her texts were full -of-hate
If it wasn't because of the speech she wrote it was wrong to censor her because of her politics.

"to maintain campus security and safety". Was there a bomb threat or some riots? What EXACTLY was the danger being addressed by USC, and what were 3-4 possible ways to resolve that specific threat, that this was the most reasonable?
USC could have been MUCH more forthcoming about their specific "safety" concern.
To the USC speech is dangerous
That she was planning on using her time to speak about her agenda instead of the nature of scholastic achievement and good future planning and congratulating fellow students and so forth, first of all, is an improper use of that privilege, plus, it makes me think her 'valedictorian' status isn't fully legit. A little DEI fudging from her liberal professors who knew her stances and welcomed her inappropriate speech.
More than a "little" fudging, USC is quite famous for it. They're in the paper degree-selling business these days, have been for quite some time, frankly.

You expect the University of Spoiled Children to ... what? Act with integrity? Act with a moral compass? Act progressively? USC isn't rated as low as it is by chance, they earned it the old fashioned way: incompetence. Perhaps if they spent a quarter of the money they pay their athletes on professors, they might be ranked higher than 60th in the world. Like 11th for UCLA, 5th for Cal, 2nd for Stanford. They'll always be higher than Fresno State, though. Congrats, USC, be proud of that.
I'm from elsewhere, and it's been a long time since I've seen an American campus.
But I've long questioned the necessity of the valedictory tradition. And having seen this woman interviewed by Abby Phillips on CNN this very evening, I can assure you that nothing has been lost by her 'cancellation'.
When asked to summarize what she had planned to say in her address, the young lady admitted that she hadn't prepared abnything. Bingo.
When confronted (very gently snf politely) about her post, which had questioned Israel's right to exist, she hemmed and hawed and twisteed and turned to evade any kind of accountability.
I will admit that it takes practice and skill to promote hate in such deceptive camouflage that

Yet 'human rights', 'unity', and 'equality' may be made to mean whatever one wishes them to mean.
As a Christian , a friend of Israel, who does not believe that all 'free speech' is good speech,

0:59 "shocked... profoundly disappointed that the university is succumbing to a blah blah meant to silence my voice". REALLY? She's only shocked because the "campaigns of hate" are almost exclusively directed towards conservative or non-woke speakers. 😡 But students and universities usually work so well to silence MANY voices, so I don't know why she would be shocked. I saw a video with a man invited to speak to a class and was shouted down and drowned out by hateful chants. He was a father who lost custody of his 8-year old son because he didn't want to allow his boy to start medically transitioning, but his wife did. He was crying! 😢 He looked so defeated and his soul was crushed. A bunch of activist students screaming at him, called him a fascist, wouldn't let him speak. Then a 19-year old woman who detransitioned (formerly trans male) was scheduled to speak at Berkeley and they had a riot to stop her voice! On another campus the same young woman was punched twice in the face by a tall man who identifies as not a man. Her supporters were also attacked. They need a police escort to go on some campuses. Doesn't she have a right to have her voice heard?
In this case the university has legitimate concerns about security and if Asna Tabassum had any self-awareness she would understand that. Instead she plays the victim, but as a propagator of hate literally sees herself as righteous and calls the people who object to her rhetoric "haters". Unbelievable.

@@heraclesreborn
Yes indeed. VERY important point. There are also jewish Christians (a.k.a. Messianic Jews), including some in israel itself.
Were you aware of that nuance?
See Acts chapter 2, which describes the Day of Pentecost, the particular one associated with the outpuring of the Holy Spirit and the foundation of the first Christian community, in Jerusalem.
Two observatios:
1. The Church was founded within the Jewish community, and though the majority of Jews to date have not accepted Jesus Christ (Yeshua) as their Messiah and lord,
the continuity of authentic Old Testament tradition with New Testament tesching is obvious to all who understand Scripture properly.
God has never consigned the Jews to the 'dustbin of history' as a nation, and the Israeli renaissance is part of the evidence pointing that way.
See Ezekiel chapter 37 and Romans chapters 9-11.
'Replacement theology' simply will not do, and was the source of much anti-Jewish hatred in Europe, just as islam is the source of both anti-Jewish and anti-Christian hatred in the so-called 'muslim world'.
2. Fir centuries, under islamic rule in many countries, Jews and Christians were assigned inferior 'dhimmi' status and subjeced to various persecutions, some of them very deadly.
Witness (a) the Ottoman Turkish genocide directed against Armenians and Asyrians, resulting in some 1.5 million deaths (1915 primarily);
also (b) the expulsion of most jews from 'Arab' countries in the wake of ww2 and decolonozation (1950s primarily).
3. Arabic-speaking Christians seem to have existed since the foundation of the Church ( Acts 2:11).
The Apostle paul spent time in Arabia and had his headquarters in Antioch (Antakya, Turkey, but really along the Syrian border).
4. Palestine is a region, not a nation, and contained MANY ethnic groups
in antiquity. There were Israelites/Jews in the core of that region, Ammonites, Moabites, Edomites, Philistines, Aramaens, Syrians, etc. along the periphery.
Where did the 'Arab' identity of this region come from? Many but not all the Jews were exiled or dispersed after the destruction of jerusalem by the Romans in 70 A.D.
But the 'sons of the 'east' are rarely mentioned in Scripture!
One can safely assum,e, however, that the Arab muslim conquests which subjugated and wiped out the culture of so many peoples during the 7th and 8th centuries had much the same effect in Palestine.
evidently Arabic became a common language.
But I doubt very much that the genetic inheritance of the former peoples died away.
5. Palestinian Christians are caught in an awkward situation, because the forces of Arab nationalism and islamic domination militate against their independent voice being heard.
Also they are apt to be lumped together with the muslims, if they are seen by Israeli authorities as taking sides with the muslims against Israel.
Palestinian Christians, if they are truly committed to Christ ans not just
adhering to social tradition as a formality, ahould by rights be peacemakers in the region.
Unfortunately all I've heard recently is that (a) Palestinian Christians are lining up politically alongside muslims, and (b) that the number of Palestinian Xhristians in the region has dwindled very significantly in recent years.
She has the right to say her speech as you have the right to get up and walk out of the building when she starts talking.
Not her podium
. . . . keep walking.
It's not why the other graduates are there.
Good job by USC
Shameful.
Notice that the smartest kid in school was pro-Palestine.
Not smartest, highest GPA… Obviously not very intelligent.
Sadly, intelligence often is not correlated with wisdom, which is why we see movements like "Gays for Palestine". People championing the same folks who would gladly throw them off the rooftop were they actually in Palestine.
intelligent people can also be delusional
What was her major, race relations?
hamas brought this on the Palestinian people, and the Palestinian people voted for hamas.
Win for AIPAC.
This is the state of America!
Disgusting...
USC sure accepted her tuition money!!! No religious reason for that!!!
Does it surprise anyone that she wasn't "offended"?
Kind of surprised they didn't let her speak and then give her a lifetime high level administration job.
She isnt following the Marxist narrative to a "T". Leftist Marxists are NOT ALLOWED to think for themselves, they have to toe the party line, or else.
Even going rogue on one issue gets them kicked out of their Intolerant Group.
Cair-LA. So a political organization wants to try to embarrass USC for making a decision about safety? Go somewhere else with that political nonsense.
Cry about it boomer
Incitment of a potential riot is reason to cancel the speech.
@@ghibtyphoidthat’s what the left has been crying about (words of aggression and hate speech, etc.) what did you think the results would end up being.

Everyone knows it’s not about safety. It’s about silencing criticism of Zionism and it’s genocide. But nice try.
Nice, about time college's step up.
Finally
If her Valedictorial speech represents a human turmoil "outside" our borders,
then she indicates that she has raised those concerns above the serious issues
facing the country that educated her. Perhaps she's not as smart as her grades
give her credit for. Wisdom is preferable to knowledge - any day.
“Hate speech” is what you say. Reasonable discourse is what I say.
No discourse in a speech.
Ruining someone’s college celebration with a hate filled speech is not reasonable discourse or in good manners to the event going on that day.
@@LoveableLincoln32 You have a point. If I were the university I would have offered her the opportunity to publish her speech in a college publication and put her on a college web site rather than spoil the event for others. Since I am pro Israel I would not have reacted well to her speaking.
How about the "hate" toward Israel?
The Khazars
Unsanctioned lefty hate.. uh oh! Didn't you program them to only hate the straights, the whites, the men and the Christians?
So we’re expected to pay the bills and keep our mouths shut?
Who’s really in charge here?
Shameful ….. let them speak …. Guess the money got to them ..
Freedom of speech should protect the growth of the community and especially the laws and orders of the society.
Would you say the same if she made an anti Black speech.
Freedom of speech does not confer the right to an audience. And again the US has to kiss Israel's butt.
@user-fp7ds5sy4w She was going to make an anti-Europeans stealing land and slaying dark people speech.
@@Random_Dude42 If her speech is being cancelled due to previous things she said, then yes, this is an attack on freedom of speech.
Even HATE SPEECH, is protected by the 1st amendment.
It's not freedom of speech if the only things you're allowed to say are pro-government. That's the definition of compelled speech.
So if she was ‘Pro Israel’ then she could have given her speech? That doesn’t sound fair at all.
She is spreading literal hate online, it has nothing to do with Israel. You are literally saying it isn’t fair for her, is it fair for the people she spreads hate toward? This culture of making the aggressor the victim is beyond silly. She is a cruel nasty person and spread some very violent ideas. Why should she be allowed a platform? If I worked for any major corp in America and said the things she has said I’d lose my job. That’s how it works, there are consequences for our actions, words included. How does anyone not understand that in 2024? They are literally trying to bury Trump for saying go and peacefully protest, saying he incites a riot. This girl said much much worse and it’s unfair she doesn’t get to speak in front of her class? What’s wrong with you?
It's LA you doink. Either way she aint giving a speech. That's the whole point. To create strife between classes and races so the Dems have an excuse to censor all. But ya'll are too dense to figure it out apparently.
The current academic environment in the US is very different than it was when I went to school… academic commentary and discussion used to be encouraged, but now any deviation from the officially sanctioned narrative is suppressed.
She should be anti-terror and anti-Hamas first, and she and all the “free-Palestine” rubes just can’t seem to bring themselves to do that…
Palestinians want to kill Jews and then scream they're victims
Oh well tough life's full of disappointments
Facing backlash from people who shut down the golden state bridge or roadways to the airport?
1. So did they see her actual speech or no?
2. What are the security concerns and from WHOM would be the threats IF she spoke? 👀
Israel Lobby snowflakes
She said she hasn't written a speech. So no. They just took the opportunity away from her because of her race and or beliefs.
@@KareemDaKing That's what I thought. Utterly ridiculous.

What does it tell you when the smartest kid at the entire school is opposed to the genocidal apartheid in Gaza by the IDF
Pretty sure her religion is the driving force
Not sure, but the way you describe the situation illustrates how keen *you* are.
That she isn't smart enough to know what genocide is, the history of region, and which of the two sides is an enemy of her own nation. For the amount of accolades she is getting showered in it seems that fairly basic knowledge is not something she was gifted in.
Good job USC
👍
UNIVERSITY HAS DONARS AND FINANCIAL SUPPORTERS WHO GIVE MILLUONS OF DOLLARS FOR RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
What does a 'donar' do? I've heard of donors and dinars, dinners and diners, maybe even donkeys, but not donars.
I wish I hadn't dropped out of elementary school.. All these eggheads at the uni versity level are too much for me.
Remember the Libertarian co-candidate who ran for President in 2016, whose campaign died a grisly death when he could offer no commentary on the siege of Aleppo, in Syria?
A blank look came over his face as he asked, "What's Aleppo?"
I think he can be outdone.
What's Palestine?
And spelling lessons
The cowardice displayed by USC is unacceptable.
But, the fracas that will follow is well paid for. Gotta give em what they want.
So be it.
As a current grad student at USC, I’m angry but not surprised at this decision. As one of my professors said, “USC only cares about money.”
As it should. Politics shouldn't have any place in academia, so well done to USC for preventing a politically divisive and hateful speech from taking place.
