  • This video shows a rarely seen part of El Capitan that you probably don't see in other videos, or even vacation photos from anyone you know. This is at the top of the cliff and the glade found at the top. The video shows the main rigging tree where we had a tarp set up for shade, the 8:1 haul system for crossing the lip and the back tie anchor tree as well. Also visible is the USGS survey marker noting the elevation at the top of the cliff at the diving board.

    I've done two trips there, 4 rappels total. I don't remember the USGS mark. Is that new? I think my last rappel was 2007.

      Really not sure. Looked as old as any of the others out there including the one 300 feet higher up at the true peak.
