- How to change the headlight bulbs on a Holden Cruze. This is a slightly different job to doing it on the Chevy Cruze.
It has been pointed out by a commenter that you can clip the globe in place before putting the clip and gasket back on - making the job easier.
No! Do not listen to this man the method will drive you to despair!
1) Undo black clip IN PLACE as mentioned at 3.20.
2) remove cable from back of globe (can be held in tight but TRUST ME)
3) remove rubber gasket
4) Undo spring clips
5) Replace new globe
6) re-attach spring clips both sides, replace gasket, plug in cable and replace black cable plug from step 1.
Show us??
You don’t need to undo black clip that’s the wiring socket cover, makes no difference.
I've found easiest way to do step 2 is with a small flat-blade screwdriver, get it between the cable and the globe and twist it gently at a few spots to lever the plug off
Thank you
@@batladder1 I hope you did it the easy way and not the way I did it here!
Great, finally a tutorial for Aussies car and very well explained. We really need more Australian shering their knowledge like you. Congrats.
A huge thank you, this morning at 4:30 my car woke up with no head lights.. I got globes followed you're vid. N bam I can see again.
I found you're vid easy to understand easy to follow and it's saved me from paying cost of replacement via the mechanics... so I appreciate this video. 🇦🇺👍
Glad it helped
Life saver! Need more aussie videos on Cruze!
Thanks mate. Replaced the $18.80 bulb after watching your video. Great work.
Thank you, this was so helpful! Your instructions and visuals were easy to follow. I successfully changed my light bulb! 2024 is starting out strong 💪
Legend, first time in my life I have tinkered with a car and it worked!
Great video. Saved my dad and I from giving up. Manuel is horrible, you should make more of these videos 👍🏼
I've replaced headlight bulbs on other cars before, but doing it on my Cruze was impossible until I watched this video. Thanks.
I found the hardest part was removing the bulb from the 3 pin socket. My recommendation is to first prise the rubber gasket loose at the circumference and reach underneath to unclip the bulb. The whole assembly of bulb, gasket and socket can then be removed which then allows you plenty of room to prise the bulb from the socket without having to work in a confined space.
For re-installation, definitely put the bulb in and clip it in place first, before putting the gasket in place next, then plugging the socket onto to bulb.
Thanks for the instructions. It helped me. All the instructions I was getting were for the Chevy cruze until I got you video. I did remove the globe without taking out the black tab though.
Great explanation! Got the job done and made me confident to give it a crack
Thanks for this. I changed my first bulb thanks to this vid. The clips were so much harder to clip back on than taking it off, but if you hadn't shown me that we could remove the white tube I would've struggled more with the little space on the passenger side. I also found I didnt need to remove that black part like you did, it wasnt that hard to separate the two once it was out of its compartment.
Dear TheTguy,
Thank you for sharing your video. It is extremely helpful. I could not unplug the bulb, but seeing your video we can conclude the first step, as listed by @chunkycustard310, is to remove the black clip.
1) Undo black clip IN PLACE as mentioned at 3.20. (This should be included in car's manual, and that is why your video helped to many of us!).
2) remove cable from back of globe (can be held in tight. If it is 1st to be removed in your car, use pliers carefully but can be unplug, it is extremely tight)
3) remove rubber gasket
4) Undo spring clips
5) Replace new globe
6) re-attach spring clips both sides, replace gasket, plug in cable and replace black cable plug from step 1.
To remove the cable from the back was not easy for me either, it looks that it had a kind of glue, I used pliers to carefully start moving it. After removing it, I could plug and unplugh with my hands as any other car.
Again, thank you for the video, and for the steps @chunkycustard310.
You are welcome. I think any method that allows you avoid having to clip it back while the gasket is in place would be better than the way I did it.
Nice video but it is a much easier process if you did the below;
1. Pull the connector away from the bulb.
2. Pry and remove the rubber cover from the headlight housing and bulb.
3. Now you have obstruction-free access to the two clips holding the bulb.
4. Press the clips inwards and then guide them upwards.
5. Take the bulb out.
*Repeat the above in a reverse procedure when to put your new bulb in place.
The connector is the problem stiff as
nice video.
car`s manual is basically useless, and I am a southern hemisphere person, so appreciated this video a lot.
Thank you very much for taking the time
Thanks for your tutorial, made installing the bulb a breeze... although you're right, toughest part is snapping those two metal clips back in place, took a good 15 mins to get the hand of it 🤣
Yeah. I know. How many times did you say the word "fuck" ?
Thanks for your help Never changed one in my life simple to follow I had led ones they a bit different still got there thanks again
There are clips on the side of the power plug, just squeeze in and remove the power plug, then remove the rubber gasket, then the globe. The clip he removes, is only into the wiring.
Thanks my friend, was a big help 👍
I found it much easier to fit & secure the bulb before fitting the rubber gasket & then push on the electric plug.
Also no need to remove the back of that plug , it’s just a tight fit.
5:10 to 5:30 in the video shows the lamp being fitted BEFORE re-installing the Gasket and the Plug (Socket).
The "clip" IS just a cover for the three electrical connectors.
The gasket is easier to replace if one applies clean water (as a lubricant) to the inside of the "ring" that fits over the lamp base.
Helped a lot fixing my fiance’s head light. You’re right Those two clips were pricks to get back in.
Yeah. Since making this I have got plenty of comments on how to make that part easier. So whoops!
I just bought a 2011 cruze and my passenger side headlamp has blown. Thank you for this video im sure I can change it myself without any dramas now 😜
Thanks for the video. Only one I could find for an Australian Cruze (2013 Model). When replacing the bulb on the left side near the battery as shown in the video, I could not get the clip on with the rubber seal and plug attached . I fiddled for ages and it was just too tight. I unplugged the bulb and took the seal off. Was able to get the clip on and put it back together in a couple of minutes. The replacement bulb was easier to put on than the original was to take off.
Glad it helped
Thanks a lot...It saved me a visit to the Mechanic...very well guided VDO...thanks
Good on you mate, really appreciate your help. Great video
Thanks. Worked for Chevrolet Orlando 2011 which is identical. Bulb is very stiff to pull out but got there. Cheers.
Thank you! Helped a bunch mate 👍
H4 AUXITO LED lamps (which WILL fit the gasket) are available for less than the cost of "premium" incandescent H4 Lamps.
Thanks for your help!
Thanks for this, those clips are a pain in the ass to put back on
I did it in the wrong order.
And surely you mean they are a pain in the arse.
good work bro, thanks for taking the time to do this. great help
Hi great video.....but I found after much cursing the easiest way to put back in was leave rubber and wires off....put globe in then the clips were very easy to put in. Put the rubber boot on and then the wires. Made it a very quick job if you don’t have the all the cursing lol
James Matthews . Sounds like a better plan than mine. Will try that next time. Thanks
Thanks! very informative.
Thank you
Thanks works perfect
Better method: Remove the black clip from the power connector while in place. Disconnect the globe, by removing the connector while the globe remains in place. Then remove the rubber boot (it's not a gasket). Undo the spring clips and withdraw the globe. Do the reverse when installing. Note: the "hood" referred to is actually the "bonnet" in Australia.
Good plan. Thanks for the lesson in Australian too. I have been married to a Seppo for too long now.
Thank you! ❤
Thanks so much for this video
Thanks this helped me a lot too. Way different to the Chevy Cruze. Could Holden have made it any harder? lol
Very helpful indeed 👍🏼
Thanks so much
Cheers for that!
Oh dear. I ran out of patience merely watching this.
Guess I'll just pay the mechanic.
It really is not that hard. Especially if you don't do it exactly as I say and put the wires on last as suggested in the pinned comment
I’ve changed quite a few globes... and in smaller cars too. This one sucked the most, the clip on my left headlight was insanely hard to put back. Many swear words were yelled.
MrMeathead89. I might have made it harder than it needed to be. See James Mathews comments
THX,GREAT VIDEO ,THIS FUCKING BULBS DRIVE ME CRAZY :-) ZOLTAN FROM HUNGARY
Zoltán Hegedüs have a read of a few of the comments. Some people have a better idea on how to get the assembly back in place
Thanks,i found them later on,but anyway it was your video,so you are the man :-)
thanks mate!
I got 3 Cruzes for my Australia post runs, I just changed them all the LEDS watching this, thanks mate you saved me a bit of $
Parker lights any advice on them?
Yeah Nah mate. Never did the parking lights. And don't have a cruze anymore.
By gee he made hard work of it... unclip the wires.. remove the rubber cover entirely.. THEN unclip the globe and fit the new one and reverse the process.
phillip nuroo how do you unclip the wires?
phillip nuroo never mind, bulbs changed. If you have any tips though about the last bit which was super tricky securing the bulbs with the clips that would be helpful for future changes.
I agree 1,000%. Just did it. Tried his method and after 15 minutes of struggling with spring clips hidden behind rubber gasket WANTED TO KNIFE SOMEONE. Then did your method, it was over in 90 seconds.
I'm so confused that's the highbeam not the headlight on the Holden Cruze I'm working on right now
I suspect we just have a nomenclature issue here. What you think the word headlight means and what I think it means may differ. I speak Australian Mate. What do you speak?
Is that legal to fix the LED lights for my HOLDEN CRUZE 2010 model ?
They're actually the same buddy. They just changed to design after the 2012 (i think) model. Mine is a Chevy Cruze 2010 model and has the same clips as yours.
Oh interesting. I could remarket this as early cruise light bulb change. Looks like the newer design is easier to do.
I think I'm weak wristed and weak gripped. I can't get the globe unplugged. I've read the manuel that comes with the car and I think you're supposed to pull the plug that the wires are attached to, out before removing the cover and unclipping. I have no idea how mechanics work at this angle. No I have an old globe still attached and can't clip it back in so I'll have to drive to see someone to get them to do it LOL Poor me lol
Have you pulled the clips off the plug ? Because I think they might hold it on tight. But even after they come off the plug holds on pretty tight. Pry it off with a screw driver.
I pulled the cover back, squeezed the clips, pull the whole lot out then was able to get a screwdriver to the plug. Thanks for your help. The right side was a lot easier with more room to move. My neighbour came over to help and I told him about removing the windscreen water funnel. He didn’t realise it could be removed either. Very handy tip. Thanks so much. Happy new year 😊
If you dont want to fight the metal clip for ages, put the bulb into the headlight do up the clip, push the gasket back on, connect cable. Voila no battling the piece of shit clip for ages.
Tyrantrumm k . Now why didn't I think of that?!!
thettguy I was absolutely losing my shit at it, had to find an alternative before i broke something hahaha.
Tyrantrumm k . I am guessing you could probably remove the gasket first too rather than how I did it here. What do you think?
what bulb are you using?
Can't recall. But super cheap auto was where I bought them. And they have a chart to choose the correct bulb based on car make model and year.
Thank you!!
please if anyone in the comment section or yourself can help me out with the tail light parking light that'll be helpful.
Removing the rubber cover is a good idea but the difficult part is having to keep the rubber gasket on while trying to secure the clips into place. This was the most frustrating part, pushing the gasket out of the way (gasket must remain attached to the bulb, during this process. I don't think you can put the gasket on last) which pulls the light bulb away from its fitting which you then need to frig around with the clips! Arrr, thank you so much for this video. The manual for this process should be left in America, dumb arses. Just be careful when removing wiring from bulb, they are very snug.
Yeah. Applause Ndlovu seems to think you can put the clip on and then the rubber gasket. So if I had it to do over that is what I would do. But that car is sold !!!
Just pull the plug off first. Remove the rubber cover.. THEN unclip the globe... by gee he makes hard work of it in this video
Too much gaskit 😂😂
Thank you
Thank you for this
