The building in front of the flag that was shown, was not built until the civil war era, so the “sally port” was a tunnel the now enters the fort, but then in 1814 there was just a bridge
It’s crazy to me that the HMS Terror was there, bombing Ft. McHenry and that the US would send their own ships out to help find it when it goes missing in the arctic less than 50 years later.
Although, I think this a well-known fact but still interesting to note that a future relative of George Armstiead would be Lewis Armstiead. He was a brigadier general in the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War, famous for leading his Virginia troops and dieing during Pickett’s Charge at Gettysburg.
The National Anthem has a deeper meaning for nearly everyone I know who served, myself included.
Whose brought stripes and bright stars through the perilous night? You my good sir! God bless you and all that have served.
@@shanestahl8788 Thanks.
P.S. It's "broad stripes."

Whose *broad* stripes and bright stars
o'er the ramparts we watched
Were so gallantly streaming
I never knew about the sunken ships being used to block the harbor, very interesting.
Great history lesson, thank you.
Good stuff as always, even has the TikTok music to boot. Keep it up!
