Rainbow Painted Federal Signal Modulator 6024 Siren Test

- Monroe, MI: The paint job obviously makes it 20% cooler. This is the monthly test for Monroe County, MI. This Rainbow Modulator is located at a park just outside the city of Monroe off Dunbar Rd. It is painted with each cell being a color of the rainbow ROY-G-BIV. There have already been a few videos of this siren online but I wanted to get a good HD recording of it. The county did test about 3 minutes early so I was fidgeting with my zoom when I heard the drivers squeal and hiss to life. Some of the drivers may be bad on this unit, it didn't seem to be putting out the volume it should be and it hissed a lot more than most modulators I've recorded.

It's amazing how these things are dually operational one technique is it talks to you to warn you it's about to go off, and two when it goes off it does it's purpose to warn you of bad weather.

I have to say that this is unique for a Federal Signal Modulator to be painted with each disk a different color of the rainbow.

If I recall correctly, I came accross a newspaper article about how children were afraid of the siren (it's next to a school I think, they were scared because of how it looked) and the head of the office or the county or something decided to ask the children what to do to make it look less scary and set out a drawing/redesigning contest, which made it end up like this. I quite like it actually, and from all of the sirens being able to give a spoken message I've seen on RUclips so far this one is definitely the one with the best clarity in the voice.
We have 3008's and in some more rural area's 2004's in The Netherlands, which produce a completely different sound, by the way.

Because he knows what he's talking about. The siren is supposed to be much louder than this, and the drivers shouldn't be hissing. Which means one or more of the drivers have broken, and the rest will follow.
How do you know if he knows what he's talking about, Carlos Aponte? And how can you tell that one or more of those drivers is supposedly "hissing"?
Because he lives in a system of electronic sirens, and has been around them for quite some time. So it's easy to pick up on any malfunctions. And, to answer your question about the drivers hissing, it's pretty self explanatory. You can HEAR the drivers hissing.

MaxxFordham I talked to a guy from Whelen and he told me that they do have a paint service were they can actually pigment color the fiberglass of any one of their sirens. He told me that a college in some state somewhere has their logo painted on the campuses 4004's.
