    I used to briefly live in they NYC area 20 years ago. I sure miss my time there in the early 2000s. I loved exploring NYC. I hope to get up there soon and see my old friends and get some food!

    The original "rappers" were the Kast Poets" out of Spanish Harlem. They never got the credit on them. Instead commercial rap got all the props. And not one of them even mention those brothers. What a shame

      Exactly.... Respect to people who know true hip hop and thank you for putting this out there because I'm sick of people celebrating the ganger rap and don't understand true hip hop need more egnolagment like this.... Thank you...

      Nobody said Run DMC were the original rappers. They were just pioneers in the genre. Don’t play with Hollis

    Hip hop like..... Dr jeckel and mister hide,trechorus 3, mantronix,just ice,t la rock, Egyptian lover,unknown DJ,whodini,bdp,schooly d,kid frosts terminator,the fat boys,the 3mcs,grandmaster Caz,kool Moe Dee, Captain rock,newcleus jam on it,knights of the turntable, twilight 22,afrika bambatta and the soul sonic force,man Parrish,utfo,Hashim,west street mob,Davy dmx,Doug e fresh,beastie boys,cash money and marvelous,epmd,world class wrecking crew,steady b Roxanne shante,Planet patrol.... To name a few...
    hip hop was graffiti,b-boys,MC and the DJ and breakbeats....
    and the street sounds electro collection volume 1-22. This is hip hop.....
    not gangster rap there no positive message with that..... Guns drugs pimpin gangs no positive message there and that's rap music....

    It’s crazy to see how far its come to today. Tons of money and very superficial but also as a whole lacks substance and not as introspective/relatable. Or at least what labels push.

      Hip hop has never been anything much deeper than "throw your hands in the air" party. It's easy to get into revisionism when looking back. Any artist that did anything beyond that is in the minority.

      It's very disappointing that such a revolutionary music with such a diverse cultural thing as a pure cultural meaning that only one can say "I am hip hop" with so many art forms that's not in any other music to see it reduced to the senseless disrespectful garbage called rap music....

      Sellouts...... like the graffiti thanks to banksy etc like b-boys in the next olipics sellouts.... Hip hop, graffiti,b-boys was from the street by the streets for the streets it was becouse we were the gutter not excepted by mane stream money grabbers..... Shame on all involved thanks for selling us out.....

Hip hop is a multi cultural thing anyone says it's just one don't know what there on about it's not about that at all look at the b-boy movement crazy legs just to say one and now what b-boy championships are made up of,and the graffiti movement was just to say one name lee for who know subway train jumpers no the GALLERY sell out it's become today then the lowrider movement thanks again for those who know kid frost and the song terminator that tune still blows my mind today... so no I got no time for anyone that got to go it was just one race of people it was a cultural movement by meny the geto streets are who's responsible for hip hop.... Shout out to Bob james for those who know and part of meny that get no props.....

      @@jayjones251 it never happend due to one race of people every nationalaty had a part to play in what hip hop was and has become to date period as for rap and gangster rap you can clame that as whatever u want it's rubbish noncance negative rubbish anyway it glorifies all the bad things that black people do anyway all u got to do is look at how the mindless act and the rolls that are played all to often in films... As for hip hop black white Mexican Latino Asian Irish etc all got a roll in it and in the positivity that is hip hop there's no violence in it at all from graffiti to breakin to djs and the sampling of others music... so lets shout out to Bob james who's white and who run DMC sampled by the way just incase people don't know..... And let's mention craftwork who are German and who Africa bambatta sampled again for those who don't know......and the education side of it it's not just one race of people responsible for hip hop that's utter noncance hip hop would never be what it is today without all natianlitys involvement. No one owns or solely made hip hop no one can clame it its a multi cultural movement by all involved rap and gangster noncance you can clame black Americans made if u like it's poisen negative noncance anyway with nothing for the youth of today can take or get involved in.... And that's a fact all rap and gangster rap has done is spoiled good music... Drugs guns gangs pimpin utter noncance....
