Thanks so much for checking out and supporting my work man!!! my favourite compliment ever is when people compare my work to movie directors cause definitely I take most my inspiration from directors and movies over musicians, like the tarantinos, Kubricks, Lynch, McDonagh etc. I'll make sure I show more ass in the next video!
Ha! Love you to pieces, Ren. You are truly inspiring! I reacted to this and lost it at the end...Like so many others I've watched now too. I hope your recovery is going well. We need MORE! Cheers, Jennifer/The Speak Easy Lounge
Ren actually said recently in a twitch livestream that he'd LOVE to have his own like netflix original show of just music-based storytelling, and i think it would be EPIC. Literally even if it was just him with his guitar, like it is here, it would be unbelievably captivating!! I have no clue how he is this talented - he can sing, rap, speak spoken word poetry, play acoustic / electric/ AND bass guitar, and play piano all to SUCH high levels while conveying such powerful stories - it's simply unbelievable... welcome to the Ren rabbit hole lol
I wish I could still watch that Twitch live stream again. I saw it back when he first did it but I didn't realize Twitch only keeps videos online for like 90 days?
@@davideastham I agree, I didn’t know that either!! I tried to find it again today, and couldn’t! His twitch livestreams were so good - gave so much more depth and context to his work / life!
@@hannahday1001 Yeah, I tried to find it the other day so that I could reference something for a project I'm working on and it was no longer there :( I wish someone would have reacted to it so I could view it again. I was a few days too late. I think it was Dec 24th?
Yes, it’s so theatrical. I can watch it over and over again with all the lyrics memorized without getting bored because it’s not only about the music itself but also about the way he performed it, the atmosphere created, the cinematography of the video and how poetic the song is. The last time I like 1 musical piece that much was probably when I watched Phantom of the opera, and it’s the highest compliment I could give to any musical act
How Ren uses the space to reflect the acoustic he wants is nothing less than remarkable. To do this all in one take, singing like an angel, story telling like a master bard, playing guitar like a maestro while finding the right place in the building to get the sound he wants!!!! Just unreal talent.

Funny, we said the same thing....sorry I didn't see your comment. I am going to leave my comment only because I think it emphasizes Ren's talent as a artist. We all are flabbergasted!
If Enimen was Bob Dylan's son, was classically trained (guitar and vocals) and studied musical theater . . .This is REN. The dude is a genius. His poetry is so fresh. As a self-publishing poet, it would be a dream come true to get my work to be performed by him. . .Perhaps my stuff would not be as captivating, but damn. His ability and impact are sublime. I think Ren is someone above the average artist. He is his own unique person in his own unique lane. I can honestly say he is my favorite artist currently and then NF
Has anyone else thought how the music in Violet's Tale (when he starts walking) is so upbeat, brings a smile to your face, has you nodding your head and tapping your feet..... and yet has the most disturbing lyrics and graphic scenes out of all 3 stories? Typical of Ren..... you never know what to expect from him because he's unpredictable. Love him!
Love that you're reacting to Ren, he's amazing. I can only speak for myself, but I would waaaayyy prefer that you pause it when you have a comment, rather than talking over the music. I feel like you're missing so much when you do that, and I get frustrated because I don't want you to miss a single moment of his genius!
Awesome reaction! Thanks for doing the Trilogy, but you haven't seen nothing yet! It's all amazing and so versatile from his collabs with Chinchilla (Chalk OUtlines) and Sam Tompkins (Blind Eyed and street mashups) to Big Push band covers and originals (Watch Out, War Pigs, I shot the Sheriff, Bongo Bong, Englishman in NY, etc) His rap is so next level - Hunger, Life is Funny, Money Game 1 and 2, Genesis, Bittersweet Symphony (verve retake), really fun vibes in What you Want, Power and Love Music pt. 1,2,3!
Violet's Tale is definitely written by someone who knows. Because I was Violet and I stayed alive but only barely, so only someone who has seen this kind of violence personally or is close to someone who has would be able to portray it this authentically. It makes me feel sick listening to it, that's how authentic it is, and I've long since recovered and moved on. Thanks for promoting Ren. He's an amazing young man. Only someone who has lived in the kind of hell he has can create the kind of beautiful art that he does.
Alex, wtf?! I started following your channel late 2023 thanks to your first time Star Wars reactions and have really been enjoying your movie and series reactions....now I find out that you were reacting to Ren for a month before I first heard him and RUclips never picked up that I might want to see YOUR reaction until now?! After seeing I don't l know how many reactions to Ren?! I've become a pretty dedicated Renegade over the last almost year and I'm so excited to see you enjoying his stuff! I'm going to have to spend more time looking through your back catalogue, I think. You're the GOOCHIEST, dude! See you for your next reaction of The Boys, man!
Loved your face when it hit you at the end of Violets tale. Im shocked how many reactors miss that Violet is their Mother. And i thought the same thing about the clothes under the gown. Nice reaction man, you got a follower in me my friend ✌🏻
I've been seeing reactions to him all over YT and when I saw yours I was like alright I'll watch. Wow... This is so reminiscent of the storytelling aspects of Sublime's Date Rape and Eminem's Love the Way You Lie and the style of folkier artists like Nellie McKay. Amazing.
It’s pretty common to wear something under your hospital gown when you’re in a psyche ward, cuz the stay is usually extended. I speak from experience. That he’s the gown for the third part puts everything on a whole other level. Love your reaction. Subscribed.
I been playing guitar for over 47 years, and although he has more tallent in his little pinky then I have in all my years of practice, and his story telling is the shit, I see one other thing that I am so possesed by, and its his ability to shapeshift, not just on a human level, but to a perspective, that the Narrator not only becomes the voice of a Character in the story, but transends the 4th and 5th, and then the 6th Wall boundary's, to actually project Emapthy to each who watches, and listens, to hear the Voice of nothing Less then what I would call, the Holy Spirit. He puts us into the shoes of the Victoms, and the Villans, with looking at life with a perspective of understanding that any moment a decision could have been made which would have changed the story, yet fate had a different plan.
I blame you for getting me into this guy. Saw your reaction almost a week ago about “Hi Ren”. And been on a huge listening bender. He just updated yesterday on his health issues. Sadly not going very well. Hopeful that things turn better for him soon.
This is a PERFORMANCE... thats the word you'all looking for. All 3 of these were done in ONE take... yeah the guys talent level just increased... AGAIN.
You won't be surprised to learn your reactions wont change with the rest of his work. Looking forward to seeing you react to 'The Hunger', 'Chalk Outlines', Genesis, etc, etc...
Literally so so grateful for your Hi-Ren reaction. I hadn't heard of him before then and now I'm completely obsessed 😂 I was missing out on something incredible! So much talent!
If it wasn't for your reaction to this and "Hi Ren" I would have never heard of Ren, so thank you! Diving deep into his story though and his own story is just as heartbreaking as his music. I hate so much that this gifted genius is sitting in Calgary, Canada right now going through extremely painful treatments and surgeries related to his Lyme disease, Autoimmunity, and brain damage. He's literally becoming an international sensation in 2023 and he can only sit there and watch it through his devices. I sincerely hope he's able to bounce back when he's done in Canada and get back to it! We need to be blessed with more greatness like this in our lives.
Great reaction. When I first saw Ren performing live seven years ago, I was captivated. There was just something so different about him. I have since seen him live many times and it's wonderful that everyone else is finally waking up to his eclectic talents. There are many of his performances on RUclips but I suggest Chalk Outlines (live) to hear his beautiful singing voice and then carry on down the Ren rabbit hole. You have an exciting ride ahead.
Love the reaction!! I am so glad that you have become a fan of Ren! I've been obsessed for about a month now... You really can't go wrong with any of his songs, and you never really know what you're going to get. The Hunger shows his incredible ability to rap. Power and What You Want are awesome and upbeat. Blind Eyed with Sam Tompkins is amazing, Chalk Outlines with Chinchilla as well. They are all just too good!!! You have a lot of Awesomeness in front of you!!
Spectacular. I love that you mentioned the Bard thing. Exactly the impression i get too. I also love the fact that you go,"WOW! The guitar, the storytelling, everything are so abstract and interesting but,.....i didn't see no ass." 😂 You make me laugh so much Dude! Stay Amazing! 🤝👍🤘
I believe he has the recording equipment under his gown - as this is all done in a single take. It's a video of his live performance, not a studio recording dubbed to a video. So consider, especially for Violet's Tale, his timing of WHERE he must be at certain points in the song are all planned out and executed to the second (e.g. the stairwell, opening the door, etc.). I don't see anyone else in the world doing what he's doing here. * Is he the greatest singer? No. * Is he the greatest guitarist? No. * Is he the greatest actor? No. * Is he the greatest lyricist? No. * Is he the greatest rapper? No. * Is he the greatest live musician, videographer, & storyteller that does all the above at the same time? YES YES YES YES YES YES!
Two things I caught: In Violet's tale, you hear of how Violet is, and how her boyfriend, the father to Jenny and Screech is, and those two personalities match their children - Jenny is like her mother, while Skreech is like his father. Second is that at the end, "two twins lying side by side" when they are born and also, in Screech's tale, at the end, he says Jenny and Screech only lie one street apart - so they both lied side by side after birth, and also as they died. You may have caught these two, but I simply wanted to mention it just in case :D
He absolutely is a bard. His storytelling is incredible. It’s like watching a mini-musical, definitely more performance art. I’ve never seen anything like what he does before. Such a unique artist. He’s writing poetry more than lyrics. I mean, all lyrics are poetry, but these songs come across more as poems to me, exactly like what the bards did.
🙌🙌 loved your reaction hahaha. The guy is amazing. Genius right??!!! I stumbled upon Ren about two months ago and haven’t been able to stop listening ever since . The rabbit hole is deep . Enjoy 🍻🇨🇦🙂
OK, the “box” to put him in is Artist. He has so much to bring, his musicianship, his storytelling, his voice. You said it and I’ve heard others say he’s called a modern day bard. I haven’t been this excited about someone in a very long time. First and foremost, I wish him improved health, after that I wish for him to be able to pursue his artistry well into the future. Love
Another tale, another lesson, from our new favorite modern day bard. That's the vibe I get from his guitar, medieval classical guitar. Add to the renaissance fanfare some elegantly flowing storytelling and you get straight up bard. His music is magic and can be empowering or crippling. It's so much more than words and beats.
Yes, he is crazy talented. The icing on the cake is the walking and playing technical. Right before Alex asks what is more impressive, Ren takes a breath and sets into that mental area where he has to solo it, and then rips it while walking. THAT is stupid impressive.
Welcome to the Club, Alex. Ren is amazing. Hi, Ren...that song made me cry tho. Violet's tale was the first song I heard, then I got hooked. It was recommended by RUclips, lmao guess my algorithm works well xD... ANYWAYS, listen to "Hi Ren" If you haven't already. More Sleep Token is also always appreciated. So are you in general. Lots of Love and happiness for you, a longtime fan.
I don't want to compare the guitar and story telling. They are both integral to this song/video/experience. I love this guy. Again, I've never seen anything like this ever, and I am just glad he exists and that I am here for it. I don't think he should have ANYTHING else. He uses that guitar so brilliantly to shape the music and highlight parts of his story. FML, I keep adding to my once short remark.
I've seen these tormented and twisted tales being reacted to so many times now! and you are the first one to point out he had shorts under his gown... I had never noticed.. Great reaction as per usual 😊
Dude you introduced me to Ren when I watched your "Hi Ren" reaction and its been a rabbit hole ever since! haha. Don't sleep on Money Game Part one and two.
it seems to me ren is making pieces on the level of Les Misérables just without the budget. i cant even imagine what he could do if someone gave him a AAA budget. not that he needs it obviously, but i dont know what else would possibly elevate his performances, they're already mesmerizing.
It's like Tarantino and Shakespeare got a little intimate with a revolutionary... Then they all went to a bar and spent a pleasant evening debating Culture, Humanity, Pop, Arts, Economics, Geography, History and Politics.... With good humour and absolute respect for one another's perspective, regardless of past experiences, boundaries or scars. The triumph and tragedy of humanity, unfiltered and lain bare. All to a fucking amazing hook, melodic dexterity, rhythmic gymnastics, spitting bars and puns cracking a smile while breaking your heart. What a Legend. Thanks Ren.
The music is definitely what sets the tone for each one, shifting from character to character along with scenes. Take the shift we hear at the beginning of Screech's tale, the sound starts slow like how a person might slowly come to the realization of what they've done. Imagine the camera on the character's face, and seeing the fear settling in. Their eyes moved without focus, fingers trembling enough to drop the knife, a shoe slowly taking a step back. Only to hear the music speed up to give a sense of running, shoes smacking against the ground as a figure jolts off into the shadows of the alleyway. It is easy to imagine the character, frightened to find a place to hide and/or scared by their own actions, running throughout the streets at the tempo given. Then, once again, it slows down as if the camera has panned out to show the whole scene, losing sight of Screech but focusing on the silent and motionless figure of Jenny; "Our story begins right at the end as the life of poor Jenny clocked out like Big Ben." Lyrics even mention Screech disappearing into the night. Only to swiftly, at the sound of knocking, pull us right back to his location in the midst of him still panicking. The visual camera panning around him gives us viewers a sense of the character's urgency - along with the beat picking up. Then it calms again as he learns there is no safety here, a moment that the character would be experience that sinking feeling of dread as his mind thinks of other options. His girlfriend. Surely she'll let him come over. Especially if he talks to her all sweet-like - manipulative. There is no music here to really narrow down the dialogue. The moment she says no, Screech shows his true colors again; angry and full of hateful intent. (REN has come out to say that Patrick didn't answer and the girlfriend said no because those two were secretly getting together behind Screech's back) So, with nowhere to go, Screech faces the only outcome of knowing how it could truly end. The music here shows the confrontation of that, the egging on. And as Screech charges the officer we are given another fast pace to nail home the sense of haste and the unsettling notion of "suicide by cop". And, again, REN puts us in the character's shoes by playing the gunshots by strumming the guitar. Along with the camera visually being hit before falling down. Music becomes somber again, the cop didn't want to take the life of a 14-year-old. The tale of taking a life through any of these characters being such a shame. Violets Tale opens up with the telltale sound of a heart monitor and breathing machine. The scene is now placed while the music here, for me, creates a somber mood straight from the start. With a touch of hope and wonderment intertwined into the notes. Who is this character? What is her story? Why are we here? Then, as he starts fingering the bridge of the neck, darker notes pool in. Faster and faster, pause, build up again, pause. Life is often like that bridge of notes; slowing and speeding up, uncertain, clear, foggy, calm, frantic, and hopeful. A hint to how her story will be before it slows down with him singing. The sound, once more, a very somber noise. Her tale will not end pretty no matter the tears shed or cries for help go unheard. To me, that is what the chorus part sounds like; the character feeling lost while asking for help only to be unheard. Like an echo in a dark forest when all alone. We are then introduced to the main melody which has very little, if truly none, happy notes. Her story will not be a happy one. REN then rewinds time to start her story with chords. I'll stop there or else this would become an even longer comment. The point is, REN's music and storytelling can visually take you on an adventure. He is very talented from one continuous camera shot, playing it all live (that is why you hear background noise, the travel of his voice in hallways, etc), to creating a story interwoven in music. Truly a modern-day Bard, as some have said.
I used to be like oh whatever when some OG fans of someone brag about knowing them before they go big and now ngl I'm feeling that as a fan of Ren for years it's crazy i feel so proud seeing him really getting more recognition, i literally remember 3 years ago recommending his music to so many reaction youtubers and was so happy to have like 2 checking him out and now he's everywhere like I'm a proud mama
I almost didn't watch this video because I find The Tale of Jenny & Screech really, really hard to take. It's brilliant, but it's tough for me -- and I'm not even a victim of any violence. I can't imagine... But you deserve the views, and your reactions are always fantastic. Thanks for another great one.
Another Renbrandt! Lol. BTW you are one of my favorite reactors by far. Love your energy! Definitely his story telling is the most special of his talents but he’s a Swiss knife of performance talents. His story telling is generational tho. He could be the teller of tales for his generation. Protect this man!!
The big Easter egg in this song is that Screech's best friend Patrick was with Screech's girlfriend that night. That is why Patrick did not answer the door and Screech's girlfriend said that she was busy.
I can't wait for this Ren journey with you. He's the most versatile artist I've seen in maybe ever. Dude is a sick rapper too, he's a beast on the flow. Also Ren calls this music "Bardcore" so it was cool you said it felt like a Bard and referenced Witcher.
The greatness can not be understated. I would only add that in Violet's Tale, when it opens, the hospital gown and the sound of the guitar in that moment is VERY similar to "Hi Ren" and i think that is intentional.
Thanks so much for checking out and supporting my work man!!! my favourite compliment ever is when people compare my work to movie directors cause definitely I take most my inspiration from directors and movies over musicians, like the tarantinos, Kubricks, Lynch, McDonagh etc.

REN HAS TAKEN THE WORLD 🌎 BY STORM! Honest To goodness he is the new musical messiah!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He’s been my favorite artist for the past month, amazing usage of rhythm and impactful lyrics
Ren is reinventing Bard-core... Thank you for the value Ren, and thank you for the reaction Alex!
His catalog is so good! Happy diamond hunting, you'll find many!
Thanks so much for the shoutout Alex!! So glad you dig the mask - it looks awesome on you!! 😎 -Ariel & Jimmy
Go for the dive into his catalog. I have followed Ren for 10 years, never disappoints. Love his singing voice. is another instrument of his.
I blame you for getting me into this guy. Saw your reaction almost a week ago about “Hi Ren”. And been on a huge listening bender. He just updated yesterday on his health issues. Sadly not going very well. Hopeful that things turn better for him soon.
Recovering from surgery is not always a straight forward path. infection is not abnormal, and am sure it will be taken care of in stride.

I've been watching his entire back catalogue for the past few weeks... It's largely good!
I have been hooked on RENactions for two months now with no end in sight 🤯🤯🤯 Please keep em coming 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻
It’s pretty cool how he does some from a hospital gown. Music is very healing! Music is my life man!!!
I mean I don’t think anyone will moan at seeing some Ren ass 😂
He really is incredible at story telling, well he’s incredible at everything! 🖤
His stage presentation, song writing, storytelling, guitar - all round talent 👏 💞🔥
Getting hit with spam on telegram under this account 🤪
He absolutely is a bard. His storytelling is incredible. It’s like watching a mini-musical, definitely more performance art. I’ve never seen anything like what he does before. Such a unique artist. He’s writing poetry more than lyrics. I mean, all lyrics are poetry, but these songs come across more as poems to me, exactly like what the bards did.
Loved that Ren reacted to your reaction, sums his brilliance up!
the ability to story tell and explore his trauma and provide music to explain what other ppl might be going through too
This dude is just amazing! love to see these tales live in a great theater.
watching him is like watching a small musical theater production, especially the way he flips back and forth with singing and speaking
Thank you for your great reaction, Alex!! Ren's storytelling is so brilliant.
Love
I think this is favorite reaction and I have watched a lot lol, thank you for reacting the way I did
Another tale, another lesson, from our new favorite modern day bard.
I got chills from this one, this guy is very good at making you feel those emotions through his music 🖤
He’s just incredibly talented. I honestly love how he tells a story so deep through his music it’s just phenomenal.
Welcome in the Ren rabbit hole. It's an interesting place, so much to explore. I always enjoy your reactions. Much love from Germany.

Ok when you said Tarantino… I yelled YES!!!!! that’s what it is. It’s artistic chaotic stunning and renders me speechless
Never heard of ren until I seen your 2 videos now,I’ll follow your journey,he’s amazing

Discovered Ren about 3 weeks ago and I am simply in awe of this incredible artist. Check out Chalk outlines next.
The live version
Thanks Ren.
There are so many! I will see what I can add after looking through the comments. Great reaction! I was so excited to see you react to this!!
I've been listen to him since hi ren came out and I love his music. Such a range in his songs he has something for everyone
Anyone can ‘learn’ to play guitar to some sort of level, but you can’t learn the talent this guy has for constructing a story/song

Love your reactions brotha. Always a badass time. Keep it going 💯🔥
Welcome to the Ren rabbit hole. He is beyond talented even has a band the big push and busking . I shot the sheriff cover amazing !!!
Love that you referred to him as a Bard. He's our modern day Shakespeare! Lol❤❤❤
I dove into REN’s catalog a couple week ago. Now I’m watching and re-watching for like two hours a day. Proceed with caution!
The modern age wandering minstrel. Stunning story telling in every video
The big Easter egg in this song is that Screech's best friend Patrick was with Screech's girlfriend that night. That is why Patrick did not answer the door and Screech's girlfriend said that she was busy.
I’m gonna need to Ren playlist ❤
I can't wait for this Ren journey with you. He's the most versatile artist I've seen in maybe ever. Dude is a sick rapper too, he's a beast on the flow.
Also Ren calls this music "Bardcore" so it was cool you said it felt like a Bard and referenced Witcher.
Love Ren. Discovered him through a suggestion on FB. Been listening ever since. Love this reaction.
The greatness can not be understated. I would only add that in Violet's Tale, when it opens, the hospital gown and the sound of the guitar in that moment is VERY similar to "Hi Ren" and i think that is intentional.
