    Most of the time you can think of it is supposed to be or not supposed to be. If it's supposed to be you use ser. If it's not supposed to be you use a estar. There are a few exceptions but they are usually biblical.

      @Spanglishconana La manzana está verde. Not supposed to be green or not ripe.
      La manzana es roja. The app was supposed to be red it's ripe
      Está muerto. Biblical
