absolutely its so sad they stopped. its like stopping rally finland from WRC. such a legendary and unique rally. and they didnt even get anything equivalent to replace it. :(
To be honest, even back then, it was sort of a odd event among the other, rather sprint events. Plus it never really was very safe, because you can't monitor such long stages as well as shorter stages. It also typically was won by 10 to 20 minutes, rather than being by seconds, or, maybe few minutes.
it was one of the very unique races. like a mini dakar rally. very different type of challenge to win and thats what made it so great and such an irreplaceable part of WRC.

wining against who? At this time there was 4 competitive teams. Loeb era was the poorest era on rallying history. If you look to 2006 to 2012 Loeb had only one team to beat and one driver. First Gronholm and after Mikko Hirvonen. Subaru never had a competitive (even reliable) car after 2005.
@@patrickanderson9023 It was both really. Citroën was the only competitive car, and at the time Loeb was the most experienced as all the old-timers left at the same time the manufacturers did. Not to mention they (PSA Group) sank millions into his development and support for the work team that all other drivers simply didn't get. Latvala and Hirvonen were moderately competitive but didn't get the support Loeb had and thus, faded into obscurity. It's got better in recent years I'm told but the lack of TV coverage means I've all but lost interest in the sport now. Pity. Oh and the buy-out immediately put an end to the (then struggling) Peugeot team, since it would be a bit pointless competing against one's self.

Solberg was lucky Loeb was inexperienced at the time and won the title because afterwards Peter couldnt get near him... Even Gronholm who is a legend was a serial loser next to Loeb. And dont tell me about Xsara being class of the field when Mcrae failed to win a single rally in the same car in 2003. Leob was fast, smooth, efficient and almost robotic which made him boring. Problem was not Loeb that the era was weak. And I dont consider Solberg, Gronholm, Hirvonen, Martin etc. weak drivers how can you say Loeb never had competition?
The recap seems to be of the start of day 2, here's why: · The slow Subaru driver was Argentina's Roberto Sánchez and Panizzi had to overtake others after losing 22 minutes in a stage the day before. The debacle happened on the first stage of that 2nd day. Despite being only a 12-stage rally, the winner needed 8h33' to complete over 1000km against the clock. It was SEAT's best-ever rally with Didier Auriol winning 2 stages en route to a 3rd overall.
