    I have been planning this eclipse trip since the day of the American 2017 total solar eclipse. I decided on my location 4 years ago near Burlington Vermont. Even knowing the cloud coverage rates, it was the most logical spot for me distance wise, and a place I'm familiar with already.
    I'm beyond thrilled to see the trip I've been planning for 7 years isn't going to be ruined by clouds! This has to be one the most rare eclipses possible with all these other astronomical events taking place like the sun being at solar maximum, the devil comet, planetary locations... it's amazing

      Similar experience. We drove from Denver to Glendo, Wyoming to see the eclipse in 2017 and spent 9 hours fighting traffic to get back home for what would normally be a 3 hour drive. I didn’t damage my eyes because of the eclipse in 2017, but I was at a point in my life where my vision was beginning to do what it does for people around my age, and I tell you, my eyes were so strained that day that I could feel it really bad. The next day I woke up, so mind blown about the eclipse that I immediately started planning for 2024, and a one hour into that planning, my vision went blurry in one eye. I struggled with sensitivity to light and variable blurriness for 5 months and have been wearing reading glasses ever since when looking at stuff closely. The sun did not damage my eyes, though I do believe it advanced what my eyes were about to do on their own due to the severe strain. My advice, just enjoy the eclipse. Only use the glasses to make quick checks on where the sun is at. Don’t worry about the stars, the planets, the 360 degree dawn or what a bunch of animals are doing. Just observe the atmosphere as the bright white sun turns into an amber glow, and when the skies go dark and you have confirmed totality, look up and enjoy one of the coolest things nature will ever show you. If clouds ruin this one, I will surely travel the world to see another.

    • @greenbeans575
      @greenbeans575 5 месяцев назад +4

      I was a little kid when I saw the only total solar eclipse in my life. I was at school and we didn't have glasses back in those days, so our teachers warned all of us kids to not look at the sun for very long as your eyes could be damaged. They told us that we could look for a second or so and only a few times, but not to look for too long. We actually listened to authority figures back then. Ha! Anyway, my eyes were just fine, but it's really not worth chancing it. There isn't much of interest until torality anyway and then it is safe to look when the sun is completely covered. I hope everyone will get an unobstructed view no matter where they are. Enjoy!!!

      The sun is also at solar maximum, meaning the CORONA of the sun will be extra viewable. In ancient CHINA, they believed total eclipses were the result of a celestial DRAGON trying to devour the sun. The DRAGON comet may be visible depending on where you are. Also China is the source location of the CORONA virus. Planets lining up, rare comets making themselves shown, weird word connections... I'm not a schizo conspirator but god damn if there were ever a movie using this as the reason for the apocalypse it would be a damn good plot line lol

    I live in Greenwood, IN… we are lucky enough to be right in the path of totality! Our local forecast is calling for partly cloudy skies and a slight chance of a shower. I sure hope that doesn’t change for the worse in the coming days!! Can’t wait to see the eclipse in my own backyard! 😊
    Thank you for your very helpful forecast, by the way!

      What’s nice is if it’s a little cloudy, the moon’s shadow can clear small clouds out of its path due to the sudden temperature change
      (Doesn’t work for thick cloud cover though)

    In Hawaii in 1991 Kailua-Kona had a 98% statistical chance of clear skies… and got clouded out.
    In 1999 in Germany I saw totality through a miraculous cloud hole. Besides an occasional few seconds of the sun peeking out, the only part of the eclipse that I saw was from just before to just after totality. Talk about crazy luck.

    Unless I had the proper filter, I’d be very nervous pointing a telescope or binoculars anywhere near the sun, even if it is blocked by the moon. Once totality ends, you could get permanent eye damage in an instant. Think ants under a magnifying glass but instead of an ant its your eyeball
