There's some hidden tech with the umbrella I didn't see you use, so I'm not sure if you are aware of it. If you hit light attack at the perfect timing right when the parry connects, on the ground or in the air, you will start spindance or aerial spindance AND completely cancel the movement and knockback from the parry. You will just be attacking in place immediately. This is especially useful in the air, because aerial spindance is good and aerial parry heavy follow up is trash. You can also of course just immediately plunge to the ground after the momentum cancel and then do grounded combos (trey star, parasweep, etc). It's super useful against attacks where you can't actually land the followup normally because they are too far away. If you time it perfectly, you won't even hear the parry noise, but you'll notice the gauge went up and you got more stamina. It's incredibly satisfying to use and chain IMO. Like lavabacks 3 hit combo with explosions after each one, you can parry momentum cancel all 6 (or the first 5 and then normal parry the 6th) and just be hitting him during the entire combo.
@@PeppoLS As a bonus hidden tech, if you hit light attack just once about a quarter second after an aerial parry, you'll go flying like 150 feet up into the air. It's high enough that it disengages you from combat with the training dummy. I see no practical application of this and you can't use karakuri afterwards, but it's funny and MAYBE you could use it to hit celestial dragon for some super cool finish or something. Oooh, or maybe you could do it with a star bomb to launch yourself up and kill a fleeing fumebeak. That'd be pretty sick.
@@AWanderingSwordsman Yo thank man, your tips are really great! I'm still trying to figure out how to constantly cancel the knockback from the parry as you explained in your first comment, it seems I can't get it! D:

Wow this was a really great and indepth review Peppo. Watched it from start to finish and im actually thinking of picking this game up now. Hopefully they fix the performance issues since I only have a 3060 and a weaker cpu but other than that the game looks great.
I love the focus on the karakuri in the game, it made me feel like i could experiment and get good with a multitude of weapons. Unlike moster hunter where sometimes i feel like i need to stick to one or two weapons throughout the game.
Really nice game indeed, having trouble fighting the deathstalker at 5 fps and some issues with camera overall behavior but i adore the game, let's hope for a real performance patch shortly.
I heard putting vertical sync on helped with the fps stutter performance, and it definitely worked for me. Hopefully they'll keep doing patches in order to make the game run smoother
Im about 50 or so hours into the game and it’s decently fun. My biggest gripe is that you don’t get a lot of materials for beating monsters compared to how much it takes to craft, but that’s simply because there aren’t a ton of monsters to begin with. Other than that the core gameplay is solid and every weapon is quite fun
I really wanted to try this game as I've heard so many good things about it, but all the performance issues on pc have scared me away. Once those are sorted out I'll definitely give it a try
Awesome to hear you're enjoying the game! Optimization was my only issue as well. In my opinion, BW takes the most "skill" and Kemono knowledge. Glad to see you playing it! I learned recently that the "New Leaf" skill will start your stam regen quicker allowing you continuously Trey Star without worrying about the stamina. Also, for M+KB users it does not allow mapping to any Mouse Buttons other than left or right click for controls. Must use mouse software to map keys to those Mouse Buttons. Really helps if you ever pick up Nodachi since you want to be charging Iai Gauge while having full mobility.
I really want to try this game out with a friend or 2 but when people said that the game was poorly optimized and has performance issues, I had to steer clear away for the time being. I have a pretty solid specs on my rig myself but when people with more powerful rigs than mine having performance issues, then it's a clear sign unfortunately.
Recently picked it up on Xbox and loving it so far, used karakuri staff basically exclusively since I unlocked it. Currently building a wagasa to try it out against later monsters. IMO the karakuri are way better than the clutch claw and wire bugs from MH. Oddly enough I find sapscourge to be hard for me, the only monster who triple carted me before I faced Amaterasu (who then proceeded to triple cart me 5 hunts in a row lol), his alpha variant I found ridiculously easy though so much so that I grinded for the raw karakuri staff from it. Overall, good game 9/10 could use some more content though (I’m already at deeply volatiles and even though there are 2 more after the current four only having 3 completely new monsters from the title updates kinda sucks)
your comments are very importent for me because your opinions on mhr almost same as mine and i really cared about what you will think about this game. Really wanna play this game for more hours but the optimization is pretty bad for me (rx480-r5600 30-45fps tried on ea gamepass) waiting for these issues to fix. Also it really needs DLSS/FSR feature.
Bladed wagasa, though an umbrella , is essentially MH LS parry game. So you’re running away from katana but essentially still playing MH LS :p anyway, looking forward to your WH speed run and guides!
Hey Peppo, Have you learned that you can spam sliding dodges to chase down fleeing kemono? I’m on PS5 and I’ve found that after I initiate a sliding dodge, if I immediately let go of R1 and O, my stamina will fill up enough to basically spam the sliding dodge and it lets me spring attack the monster consistently when it’s running away. I’ve gotten a few clutch tail cuts this way. Hope this helps.
The bow in this game needs a bit more flow and less stop & go when it comes to powering up your shots, the dodge is kind of stiff with the weapon drawn and one should be able to charge shots quickly while on the move making fights more dynamic on the fly.
used the nodachi and i pretty much only struggled with gold tempest (and whatever the ice wolf was called. the real issue is that the frames dropping and slowing down led to so many deaths, due to my moves not being registered like rolls or Karakuri not working. games good but not enough things to hunt. also i find that the start of the game pretty hard, then near the end it gets hard again, but after that the game pretty much becomes easy since you can just abuse the Karakuri to win. lots of problems i have with the game but I'll give it an 8.5 (if we ignore how it runs on PC). hopefully, they add more monsters that actually make it feel like a full £60 game.
You need to be careful with the fps lock on console and pc. If you run the game in performance mode or 60fps lock on PC, your trey star does 13 spins. If you run the game on graphics mode or 30/120fps your trey star spins 16 times. 60fps basically makes you lose DPS on Wagasa. MHR had the same issue with Greatsword.
Thank you for your detailed review! I am also sceptical of the katakuri mechanic but your assesment makes me want to try it out myself. I hope they fix PC performance because I won't buy it before that. My hardware is worse than yours and I don't want to playy at low res with 30 fps and still have stuttering
I wish they have option to choose the zoom out camera because the main camera very dumb when facing large monster. Can't see shit about the monster doing attack when the character close to the monster
I really enjoy the wagasa blade but the framerate and the lag of this game are pulling me from performing perfect parry cuz the animation and the hit-frame does not synchronize well. And it became worse in the latest patch somehow with a massive bug where the celestial dragon just gone invincible in his second phase for the whole hunt which really annoys me. But still if the dev dont give up on this game and fix all the issue on PC platform I can see myself spending 500+ hours in this game.
The dodge roll is more like that of say a souls game than monster Hunter which also throws a lot of people off I've seen when playing multiplayer. So many hunters will try to avoid the attack and not through it which doesn't work most of the time with the kemono tracking.
9:23 "would like to try something new" hahhah LS from MH and BW(bladed wagasa) both are counter weapons both has 3 level gauges to maintain for max damage jokes aside wagasa does feel different. good different. but the bow though.. makes hunt soo cheezy.
