Nic Cage is a force of nature. Lord of War and Matchstick Men are 2 films that fly under the radar but absolutely worth their weight in gold.
I'm ashamed to admit that I have seen neither of them. I will absolutely hunt them down.
Matchstick Men is a seriously forgotten Ridley Scott joint.
Ouch, sounds like they missed a great opportunity to celebrate Cage as a center stage, over the top, campy vampire - which would be completely awesome. Oh well. This one will be streaming for me.
That means they really couldn’t afford his asking price, so he’s barely in it.
@@amcaesar 🤣
Totally fair. It's tough for me to make a case for folks throwing down cash to see it in the theater.
They had me with "Nicolas Cage as Dracula." But I am not surprised they failed to exploit the premise to the fullest. That seems to be a thing these days in Hollywood.
A director like Edgar Wright could have taken it all the way but Chris McKay just doesn't have the chops to completely pull it off. That said, Nicolas Cage is fucking amazing.
The first time I saw this trailer, the was interested. But after seeing it several times, I changed my mind. I can wait a few months and watch it on one of the platforms.
Totally fair. Unless you're a diehard Cage fan, there's no need to rush out to see it.
"Yes, You Can!" coming to theaters soon!
Thanks for the review James. The trailer was promising. At worst, I was hoping it was a rated R gory version of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Peak Buffy is definitely superior but Cage is well worth a look.
Gratz on 30k subs!
I almost went to see the same exact movie at the same exact theater last night. Alamo Drafthouse is my favorite movie theater chain by far. To all those who haven't gone to one, I highly recommend it.
Nice! I go there all the time. If you see me in the future, definitely say hello.
Fair review, and as suspected, the only reason to go watch is for Cage and Cage alone.
Also, had no idea who Awkwafina was, and She looks like a mid-budget supporting cast member in a drama series, definitely not an A-list leading Lady in a Hollywood blockbuster. Not sure why there's such a trend towards removing glamour from Cinematic productions these days, but a story involving Dracula should be absolutely dripping with it. Pardon the pun...
...Was going to see it tomorrow, may hold off for a streaming option. Currently undecided.
Subbed!💖
Thank you for this review
Thanks for watching, Rick!
i was watching WWE monday and the trailer came out of nowhere for me... and they was pushing this movie more than the wrestling itself... anyway, im gonna watch for Nic Cage, cos, im a sucker for him. Great video man, cheers.
Thanks, Marcelo! If you're a fan of Nic Cage, you absolutely won't be disappointed. He's so damn funny.
"Nicolas Cage?" Universal should just take my money already. Surely you're kidding about people laughing at his expense, you have triggered me. I dont think he will be in anything just because of money, the man really enjoys being an actor and won't raise his nose at any project, he's just passionate, what director wouldn't want that, that's why he has worked with legends.
You'll get no pushback from me. I've been watching him in movies my entire life.
Thanks for the review James.
My favorite movie length.
I love vampire stuff, if made for adults. I only like the over the top Cage like in Raising Arizona or Wild at heart. He sounds promising as Dracula, but too old. Your review makes this seem like a hard pass. One of my favorite movie Dracula’s was Gary Oldman in the over the top Coppola version.I watched the trailer but when he said ‘master’ my mind went to the hilarious over the top series what we do in the shadows with ‘Gizmo’ constantly saying yes master (movie in which it was based was hilarious too)
What We Do in the Shadows is vastly superior as is Coppola's version of Dracula with Oldman. That said, Cage is so damn good he almost converted me.
@@geekinwithJamesHancock okay thanx for the feedback - seems like its ‘over the top’, if it ends up on my cable, I’ll probably check it out. I also enjoyed him in Adaptation, mostly for the Charlie Kaufman/Spike Jones duo and the ‘against type’ Streep and Chris Cooper🙏🖖
Smelled like disappointment when I saw the trailer in front of JW4. Like if a freezer in the garage holding a lost season of What We Do In The Shadows got unplugged and nobody notice until the whole house stank.
Had a ton of potential, but I'll be curious to see how folks react. Comedy is such a weird thing that can hit people in so many different ways.
I thought the female lead, while a fantastic actress, didn't work. I was disappointed with the movie it could've really good but they got lazy with the story. Sadly I was disappointed.
Akwawfina ruined this film.
I did like Crazy Rich Asians, but here, nope.
I understand this was a comedy horror, and I love comedy horrors,
but this was borderline stupidity.
Nick and Holt were good here though
Completely agree with your review.
Thought the trailer looked absolutely terrible.
Then I suspect you would like the movie even less.
@@geekinwithJamesHancock Honestly, I'll probably watch and most likely enjoy it, so long as I'm in the correct Nick Cage mood for it!
A Dracula movie with a cops and robbers plot sounds instantly like a terrible idea. Dracula isn't interesting enough by himself? It has that studio, Save The Cat stench on it. Or that dogmatic nonsense that all films must be a mix of genres to sell these days. Even The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent nearly buckled under the extremely unnecessary crime plot, something explicitly acknowledged in the movie itself.
Sadly this movie is being pulled in two different creative directions, one of which is hilarious while the other is totally forgettable.
The girl giggling and applauding the entire movie was probably meee 😅 I loved this film!
