    Fripp in the corner looks like a cyborg that's been turned off during the drum solo, seriously, he doesn't move at all. Solo's over, someone switch him back on.

      I suspect Fripp might be a cyborg. Oh, & not to split hairs, but this is Crimson, so I suppose some exactitude is forgivable. This can't technically be called a solo...

    just shows why these 3 play with Crimson. It takes a very special technical drummer to play all the polyrhythms and unusual time signatures in their music. They played several times as a 6 piece. 2 drums, (Pat and Bill) 2 guitares and 2 bases.

      Philip Hodkinson I thought that at first! Then I noticed he was looking out at us with upturned corners of his mouth. The Warfield is a historic rock venue going back to the 60s, built in '22. Steve Hackett's concert made the place vibrate with strong bass.

    • @loffe9
      @loffe9 7 лет назад

      Steve Hacket is the man. Brilliant in every way. At 72 I watched all these guys come up. Bumped into Rob Fripp at home in UK a year back. He lives in Gloucestershire with his wife Toyah Wilcox. UK 80's singer

    • @ladyblackstardust390
      @ladyblackstardust390 7 лет назад

      Philip Hodkinson You might appreciate this Robert Fripp story. My good friend did computer graphics for the movie "Titanic". He was at the wrap party. As in all my friend's stories, "There was a pretty girl". She came over to talk to him. She was unnerved. She said she had just met a man she pointed out. My friend told her he was a famous rock guitarist, Robert Fripp. She said he had come over to talk to her. Fripp repeated word for word, both sides of a 3 minute conversation he had watched her have from across the room. She said he freaked her out, and she quickkly ended the conversation and found my friend to talk to. Brilliance wasted on the pretty girl and/or Fripp didn't have much game.

    As great as Bruford was (is!), anyone who thinks he could do what these three are capable of collectively should think again. Look back to the Thrak era when there were two drummers. I believe RF called it "double band". One of those drummers was Pat Mastelotto, the other...Bill Bruford. The combination on stage was magical. Bruford all wrists and subtlety and Mastelotto all shoulders and mayhem. Outstanding then and it will undoubtedly be even better when I see them in November. Long live King Crimson.

    Like many of you fans, I've been hearing about the R. Fripp excentricities for years. Honestly, is it that important?? The guy has his specific ways of working and being. So, what of it? If he didn't exist then none of us would have this music. I own about 30 KC and solo artist CDs. MY musicalal interests would have been much less nourished had it not been for what he did. The gosip may be interesting but is it nourishing?

      351cleavland - I agree with your outlook, and also with Jörmungandr: Mr. Fripp seems far less eccentric to me than he apparently does to others… I’m even related to people more eccentric-seeming! He may be a little exacting, but again: I’ve worked with many artists, across a few media, and in many capacities over the years, and Mr. Fripp’s particularities seem far less pronounced - from what I hear of them - than the particularities of many less talented and less successful artists! He strikes me as good-natured, reflective, and generous - with a very silly sense of humor! He’s toured with musicians by bus most of his life, he certainly understands how to get along. So thanks to both of you for speaking up!! 🙂

    For all those of you who dare to make fun of Mr. Fripp, realize he's the boss watching his employees perform a section that they composed themselves and rehearsed a year in advance and he is observing (with his particular "eye") their progress. This video is a filmed rehearsal before they began the tour. Mr. Fripp is a recording machine who sits still and analyzes everything; perfecting, finding glitches, updating - maybe "cyborg-ish", but his musicality and technique do not deserve any criticism whatsoever. He is to be emulated for his approach and work ethic. That is why he is Robert Fripp and you are not. Flame away, I don't care.

    If the players are all drummers, does that change a trio to a solo? :)
    btw. This is awsomness.

    Shades of the classic Larks's Tongues line-up with Jamie Muir on percussion. This could be very special indeed.

    People here should listen to "Thirds Construction" by the composer John Cage, it has somewhat the same sound! Pretty amazing!

    1:55 in sounded like a Jim Keltner soup. What an awesome blue colour he had on his set. Does anyone know which brand he's using? Definitely better than Drummers of Burundi, a record I bought in the Stone Age:-).

    Saw this lineup in SF last night. This rehearsal doesn't capture the dynamics and energy of the live performance, and certainly doesn't represent how the solo evolved over the tour. This is by comparison - flat.
    Although there were times when the three did play the same part (and the sonic impact of that is impressive through a concert sound system) most of the time they were playing complimentary parts. In last night's performance Harrison played the main line including fills (and also had a true extended solo in which only he played), Mastelotto acted more as a percussionist than drummer adding accents on cymbals, and electronics. Of the three Rieflin at stage center didn't have much to add other than doubling lines - note though that during much of the concert he was playing the mellotron keyboard parts (when not handled by Fripp).
    I'm a huge Bruford fan, but Mastelotto and Harrison had me grinning ear-to-ear more than once last night.
