Driving with Hand Controls

  • I started driving again three years after my spinal cord injury. As a quadriplegic, I opted to drive from my wheelchair because transferring was too difficult. I have Zero Effort steering and EMC AEVIT hand controls with a Braun modification. They aren't cheap, but thankfully Vocational Rehabilitation pays for the modifications. The freedom driving gives me is priceless. Hand controls vary greatly: For paraplegics and some quads, hand controls are much simpler and less expensive. However, some hand controls are even more complicated than mine.

This is the best use of taxpayer money I have seen in years.
