I had a Pakistani friend in high school, when I studied in Geneva Switzerland. My dad had a stint with UN and we lived in run of the mill apartment. I went to Pakistani 'friend's' house, my mind was blown on how opulent it was. The dad worked for Pakistani government and was in the military attached to the embassy. Probably ISI. This is where the money went....feeding the greed of the military.

Compared to other countries, Pakistan spends substantial amount of GDP on the Military. They live a lavish luxury life and not only that they own lots of land and businesses. Plus they also have political power behind the scenes. Wealth and power now concentrated on few elites and rest of country continues to remain poor.

The Tatas are an interesting lot. Harish Damodaran, the grandson of EMS Namboosripad, the first elected Chief Minister of Kerala, works for The Hindu. He wrote a book titled 'India's New Capitalists'. In that, he mentioned that the British fought and fought with the Dutch to get hold of Surat, but failed repeatedly. Then, they decided to create a new port city called Bombay.
The Brutish did not want to give the maintenance of this new port city to either the Muslims or the Hindus.
They found the Parsi community to be neutral in political outlook and also quite business-minded. Thus, the British provided a great opportunity to the Parsis in Bombay. The British gave them swathes of land in the new city. Places like Nariman Point came into the hands of the Tatas virtually free of cost. The Gidrejs benifuted too.
The Tatas had capital to put into the business opportunities provided by,the British.
Do you know why the Tatas had a bunch of money to deploy in Bombay? How they made this money?

The major reason of Pakistan's decline is that. After its formation it never had those communities that could have served as a role model for entrepreneurship for its population. We Hindu Sindhis were forced to leave, so were Parsis, Hindu baniyas, Gujaratis and Jains.
These communities have an inherited business acumen and really run most valuable companies, firms and businesses in India.

Sir J N Tata didn't just build a steel mill in 1907. It is the city to which I belong Tatanagar Jamshedpur😊. It provides employment to thousands,millions live here now. Some of the best schools,a good hospital,clean roads and parks,super safe for women everything is here now. The only city which doesn't have a municipality but maintained by Tatas themselves.😊In 1947 when refugees came they were welcomed and we peacefully live here with many minorities. I am a fourth generation here,my great grandfather was given a job by the Tatas.

The Tatas are an interesting lot. Harish Damodaran, the grandson of EMS Namboosripad, the first elected Chief Minister of Kerala, works for The Hindu. He wrote a book titled 'India's New Capitalists'. In that, he mentioned that the British fought and fought with the Dutch to get hold of Surat, but failed repeatedly. Then, they decided to create a new port city called Bombay.
The Brutish did not want to give the maintenance of this new port city to either the Muslims or the Hindus.
They found the Parsi community to be neutral in political outlook and also quite business-minded. Thus, the British provided a great opportunity to the Parsis in Bombay. The British gave them swathes of land in the new city. Places like Nariman Point came into the hands of the Tatas virtually free of cost. The Gidrejs benifuted too.
The Tatas had capital to put into the business opportunities provided by,the British.
Do you know why the Tatas had a bunch of money to deploy in Bombay? How they made this money?

Read it to understand how many 'Hindu Baniyas' were involved from the very beginning. Zoroastrians and Jains founded TCS? 4 out of 10 startups in Silicon Valley have at least one Indian cofounder. And out of those 9 out of 10 are Hindus. If Zoroastrians were so good , then where is Iran's TATA. It is the industrious middle class Hindus who is building the modern Indian economy.

Another factor was that business or entrepreneurship was a go to route for the Jains and Gujus while for most of India it was getting a stable job. But things are changing. Everyone now wants to start a business and out of this "Everyone" it is the relatively higher IQ sub group the Brahmins and the Baniyas will succeed most.
