3 inches of water in your home and it's almost a complete rebuild. Water damage is under rated.
So thats just another thing we subsidize florida for 💩
Yeah mold SUCKS!! The devils playground mold is
With all in the news about Idalia, what is the fate of seniors including us who rely on their home equity for financial stability and might have faced some challenges if their homes were affected. Ian was bad not to us, but we were impacted this time and to a large extent. Now we can relocate, lol.
My heart goes out to you. I can imagine the stress you might be under, Was you home damaged or did you have to evacuate? Financial situations could turn ugly and make seniors quite vulnerable.
Absolutely, even if their homes weren't directly hit, the economic fallout from the hurricane could have ripple effects on property values, which could impact their home equity.
I also wonder if insurance coverage plays a role here. Seniors like you who were affected might rely on insurance to cover repairs, but the extent of coverage could vary and potentially impact their ability to tap into their home equity.
Also the emotional toll of dealing with a natural disaster like this could impact other seniors' decision-making. They might be hesitant to make major financial decisions, including leveraging their home equity.
It's a complex situation, and it really emphasizes the importance of disaster preparedness and having a comprehensive financial plan that takes potential natural disasters into account. and professional guidance could be enlisted.
How could people say they were not expecting a category 3 to be bad😮

That guy was stupid and none of them should have been rescued!

Nobody expected it to be this bad - every news outlet and FL Government - A Cat 3 or4 Hurricane is coming - Guy on TV no one thought it was going to be this bad. These people chose to stay in harms way.
When you here category 3 to 5 run its very bad

The issue is one of complacency, misunderstanding, and well intentioned misinformation. Most graphics for hurricanes air on the side of caution, claiming the worst case scenario to be what will happen and not acknowledging that there will be variance on it. That feeds into the misunderstanding of the public, not understanding that it can vary wildly depending on where exactly you are when it hits. And that misunderstanding feeds into the complacency that causes issues like these people needing rescue and not leaving their homes. To their understanding, one cat 3 hurricane is the same as the next, but in reality it can be a whole different storm depending on your location the time it hits, etc.
Too many conspiracists and not enough common sense. Prayers for the poor people rescuing them
Didn’t expect it to be this bad?! Come on people. You see these hurricanes almost in a yearly basis and still don’t think it will be bad
You don’t live in Florida, do you?
The result of wooden houses!!!
That area hadn't been hit that bad in over a century
And up until Monday morning they said it would be a 2. Not a 3. Definitely not a 4. For something that wasn’t even formed yet, it escalated fast.
@@NFD3122 used to live in Fort a lauderdale for 10 years. But you don’t have to live in a place to know you may get ravaged in a hurricane PRONE state.
Over and over again we hear about people staying in their house, because they are afraid of looters, only to find someone to rescue them, because they chose not to follow the warning. And their belongings are under water. Hopefully those who don't want to leave, learn a lesson. Stay safe everyone.
Bro. Some people dont have money to evacuate
Everybody doesn't have the money to get up and leave the area and not everybody has friends/family to stay with. I guess you forgot it takes MONEY to relocate and for some people the house or whatever place they are staying at is ALL THEY HAVE. Now for those who do have the money at least they have the option to leave without worrying about money
I live in Central fl so I don't leave but if I lived on the coast and had to deal with storm surge, I'd leave. I don't care if I have to drive somewhere safe and stay in my car. There are also plenty of shelters. Better than drowning.
Give me a break! I live in Colorado and I hear about the shelters located in Florida and the evacuation orders. And if you are that poor, what are looters going to loot, and in the middle of a hurricane, really? They just think if they pray hard enough, Jesus will save them or, more likely, the emergency responders paid by the government they disparage the rest of the year.
My advice, get out of Florida.
Whose gonna be looting in a cat 4 storm with 10 foot of storm surge ? Idiots… 😊

Surprisingly, the meteorologists predicted the storm surge accurately this time. Good work.
Meteorologists tend to overexaggerate storm surge predictions so people will take more precautions.
And I believe Floridians remember the extreme surge to Ft Myers Beach and Sanibel from Ian 11 mos ago . Over 70 deaths in Lee county where it hit and a total of 149 killed in 19 counties. Glad people are taking things seriously .
Being a full moon also would have made it high tide as well. I don't know why people just don't evacuate instead of having to be rescued by people putting their lives on the line to do so.
@@theteenagegardener They also tend to refer to scientific models. models arent 100% right
@@theteenagegardener the storm surge predicted was 10 to 20 feet. Go watch Reed Timmer's channel post of the surge, it was exactly 16-20 feet high at the landing site. The last almost prediction was for Ida. And Ida destroyed western Lousiana. There is no disbelief anymore. And the accuracy is getting better. The tools are improving and there are younger meteorologists as well.
Best recap vid i've seen of this storm so far. really well done!

I know how they feel. I remember we had a super typhoon equivalent to category 5 hurricane last 2021. All I could hear is the wind swirling around us and something falling down or scraping the roof. Last week I hydroplaned about a mile from my house-it was one of the scariest experiences of my life and now I know to be extremely cautious of flooding and if there’s even a chance, I don’t go out. I guess my point is it’s not just deep waters you have to worry about during flooding, if your car is forced up off the ground it in the water you have zero control. It’s awful. And I used to live in Michigan. where black ice was a threat in winter. I thought nothing could be worse but now I know better.I’m a cautionary tale y’all 😳😳😬🙄😎
It came within a100 of my house tons of rain today
😂
I hydroplaned on the 405 freeway in LA many years ago, and it IS scary, no control as I drifted into the lane next to me, luckily no one there at the time and my tires finally caught the ground again.
And my next door neighbor was killed in our January floods here in California about a mile up the road, stuck in her car as a small river became a large river

We're always told the flooding is more fatal than the high winds. Yet journalists routinely focus much more on the latter. It was difficult to find out what the highest storm surge was--I finally learned it from this segment.
Sensationslist journalism v the actual news people want and need!
That part of FL is full of cute little towns, fishing villages, old worn out towns, and swaths of land with old moble homes. Low population with old buildings. POS Insurance companies
should be thrilled. Also lots of flood damage so that is federal flood insurance not regular homeowners.
I am from Perry is 64 years I had never seen a storm like this in my hometown I have not seen a lot of buildings disappear and Perry sometime we might get 75-80 mile an hour winds from the hurricane that's going through but wow this is the first time I know of all my life that Perry took the full blunt from the storm
Thanks, Ron.
so glad am in new york.
Hurricane Elena made landfall in Cedar Key on September 2, 1985, as a Category 3 storm with wind speeds of 125 mph, storm surge of 8-12 feet, property damage of $1.3 billion, and 9 lives lost. So worst in a Century is false.

Incredible how well this was handled, I'm impressed with Florida's emergency people and the people that had the response all mapped out. I live in Portland, and every year, we get one to three ice storms and every year, even though we get one to two weeks notice, when it starts the whole area desolve's into chaos...every-single-time
It's florida, we just florida and go on.

Floridian here.
Sorry to hear that about Portland.
the guy said h didn't expect it to be that bad......it's called floida and due to it's geographic location it gets the most amount of storms and the strongest storms worlwide.
This is why I select trees that grow lower to the ground and prune them to make sure they grow more horizontally than vertically. Most other people here have the trees all pruned to “raise the canopy” far above buildings which makes no sense because the trees are far more likely to fall completely on your house if they tower above it.
"If You Can Call 911 Ron Desantis?" I would imagine Cellphone Service Would be Knocked Out!"
Seems like the news media wanted the hurricane to hit Tampa so bad.
It was a category 4 I live there and it trashed my house the eye came right over my house
Nothing compares to Harvey here in Houston
How can you call 911 if the mobile grid is barely working?
Some communities, hours before Idala came ashore, warned people that even their emergency responders were hunkered down & wouldn't venture out, till the storm had passed!!
Glad I don't live there.. nice and sunny over here up north :)
Hopefully insurance companies care enough to not abandon their clients? Hm. Good luck everyone!
It isn't a matter if caring. It is a matter of the law. Insurance is heavily regulated. Insurance isn't a charity. Legitimate claims get paid. Insured people will get claims paid. People that cut corners on their insurance to save premiums, well they get what they pay for. Again, Insurance isn't a charity. Support a taxpayer program in at risk states if you don't want to pay a premium that covers the costs of claims.
You will get your chance this coming winter. Everywhere is some trade off.

It's sad 2 people lost their lives. But Considering the population, that's really good news.
Is it worth all that crap EVERY year
Don't build homes and businesses and live where storms like this happen a lot from time to time. Give people a little more land with the beach, trying to see the ocean and have a good time.
100MPH can be dangerous
To be honest, it’s really annoying that some of these people have to be rescued because they could have evacuated but they didn’t. No one should have stayed voluntarily, and if they did, the government should tell them, “you’re on your own.” And anyone who wanted to evacuate but could not by their own means, should have been safely rescued before the storm and brought with their pets to a safe shelter. Amazing how people think it’s only going to be some excess water, forgetting about wind, projectiles, fallen trees, fires, electrocutions, sink holes, and all kinds of unforeseeable outcomes.
These happen regularly. Don’t blame them for not taken them seriously, a hurricane in Florida is as common as a bad thunderstorm in other states. Besides the hurricane was predicted to go lower down to Orlando yesterday they probably weren’t ready
ALL PRAISES TO THE MOST HIGH.

Hey! Where's your shiny white boots, Meatball??

why do these people never evacuate???
I'm not interested in that, what interests me is how everything is after the hurricane and that's old.
what happened to the people whose had tanks got filled with diesel, because all the gas stations got diesel "accidentally" put in their storage for the pumps??? did the get evacuated or were they all trapped in their cars in a miles long traffic jam....i guess stalled cars aren't as obvious as cops blocking the roads
Totally! 🤬
Can do better if didn't have to rescue people if they left in the first place. ALL hurricanes are dangerous. Comparing one to another never makes sense. Be safe all.
thats normal in the tropics. Hurricanes are strong natural monsters. Im a Miami resident since the date of my birth. I have witnessed and impacted by direct eye landfalls and brushes of various hurricanes or tropical storms like katrina, irma, wilma, nicole, and many others. florida in on average the most struck state of the country. even without global warming or climate change, tropical cyclones are indeed monstrous mother nature phenomenon. My prayers go to the victims family and friends in cedar key and elsewhere in idalia's path. hurricanes are no joke and it does not discriminate anyone of all sizes, ages, heights and backgrounds. I lost one of my 3rd cousins from irma. Please dont let your guard down.
