I have 2 - in fact my old one mr butler just restored for me -replaced broken loose components inside, new on off switch, replaced the knobs, put a grounded plug on it and he installed a bias adjustment AND signed the back - he said it’s from his first production batch. The one I ise the most is a 1995 911- made a living with the old one for 15 years, and by god I’ll make a living with it again. These things sound so much better that an 8k klon it’s ridiculous
It's a great pedal, yep, this is a newer 12ax7, someone dropped it I believe and didn't tell me so it had be changed out. This is the model without the bias pot, I had a friend who had one of these and the one with the bias pot, he preferred this one, thanks for watching
OK so they got a Butler Tube Driver, and also a Chandler one and a Tube Works one... Which is the original first one? Which is the best? Also they got a 3 knob and a 4 knob one.. WTF? This is confusing..Can you let us know if you know?
I know, it's all pretty weird. Essentially I believe this is the original circuit design and these are models Gilmour uses. I think he has a Chandler one, but mostly uses the 4 knob Butler models.
This should tell you everything you need to know. Loads of info on the different models. The Chandler's aren't as good apparently www.kitrae.net/music/Music_mp3_Tube_Driver_Sound.html
TL;DR, The Butler/Chandler are the same unit, just the Chandler was made under license. It originally came with 4 knobs but the 5 knob version means it has a bias control to change the wattage to better suit your amp (BK states the usual sweetspot is at 2/3 o’clock.)
From the Kitrae site. TUBE DRIVER VERSIONS - There have been numerous version of the Tube Driver made since the 1980s, but these are all of the 4 knob versions. A mostly complete list of all the other versions can be found HERE. •1985 - B.K. Butler/Chandler Tube Driver. Marked TUBE DRIVER™ and CHANDLER INDUSTRIES-PATENT PEND. on the front. •1986-87 - B.K. Butler/Chandler Tube Driver. Marked TUBE DRIVER®, Concept & Design: B.K. Butler and CHANDLER INDUSTRIES, INC on the front. •1988 - Chandler Tube Driver. Knockoff made by Chandler after Butler parted ways with them. Only marked with script Chandler logo on the front, no BK Butler. •1993-94 - 911 Tube Driver - Made by Butler's Tube Works company. A four knob version of the Tube Works 901 Real Tube pedal, which was an improved Tube Driver. •2005 - 911 Tube Driver. A reissue of the 1990s Tube Works Tube Driver.
Gawd I love this pedal. This and my Red Snapper are two ODs I’ll never part with.
Its fantastic. I've only heard clips of the red snapper but I've heard it's really up there with the nest Marshall type pedals
Great deep Sound !!!
The best thing ever - been using one 36 years
It's really great, one of the best pedals ever made

@@Badhands55 Especially when some of the clones are so so good. But its become a collectors piece I guess
Great sound! Does it have a 12ax7? Bias pot on the back?
