    This video talks about duality in fighting games.
    Guilty Gear Strive is a fighting video game developed and published by Arc System Works. It is the seventh mainline installment of the Guilty Gear series and the 25th overall. The game was released worldwide on June 11, 2021. It uses Unreal Engine 4. Intended as a "complete reconstruction of the franchise", Guilty Gear Strive retains the core essence of the series but revamps many features and mechanics, except for the removal of the series’ signature mechanic, the Instant Kill. It introduces the "Wall Break" feature, which allows for stage transitions when a combo is initiated in the corner of the arena. Guilty Gear Strive was released for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Microsoft Windows on June 11, 2021. It was also distributed via Sega to Japanese arcades on July 29, 2021. "Limited Edition" and "Ultimate Edition" editions were made available for pre-order; console players who get the latter received early access to the full game on June 8, 2021. The cross-platform play was only supported between the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions at launch. Cross-play with the Windows version is set to be added as an update alongside Season Pass 2. Ver. 1.05 added Korean voices, marking the 3rd game in the franchise to have a Korean dub, alongside Guilty Gear X Plus and Guilty Gear X2 #Reload.
    Street Fighter V is a fighting game developed by Capcom and Dimps and published by Capcom for the PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Windows in 2016. Similar to the previous games in the Street Fighter series, Street Fighter V features a side-scrolling fighting gameplay system. The game also introduces the "V-Gauge", which builds as the player receives attacks and adds three new skills. The game features 16 characters at launch, with four of them being new to the series. A story mode and 30 additional characters were added through updates and downloadable content.
    JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Heritage for the Future (ジョジョの奇妙な冒険 未来への遺産 JoJo no Kimyō na Bōken Mirai e no Isan), simply called JoJo's Bizarre Adventure in the West, is an arcade game developed by Capcom based on the third part of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Stardust Crusaders. It was released on September 13, 1999, on the CPS-3 arcade system. As a revision of JoJo's Venture, Heritage for the Future adds eight playable characters and adjusts several aspects of the game. The game combines Capcom's trademark anime-inspired graphics, as seen in the Darkstalkers series, with the colorful characters and events of Hirohiko Araki's creation, resulting in a highly stylized and detailed visual style. It features many of the gameplay mechanics seen on previous Capcom fighting games, such as the use of power gauges for super moves, as well as a brand-new Stand Mode: a character's Stand can be summoned or dismissed at will by the player, resulting in variations in the character's move list and abilities.

    In a way, “Stand” characters are like stance characters mixed with puppet characters, most notably differing with the potential to not be affected by the startup or end lag of the stand’s attacks if HFTF is to be used as the standard.

    I think that my favourites duo Characters are Rosalina and Luma(Smash Bros) and Tom and Jerry (Multiversus). Those character have a pretty intresting mechanic, that is to give the "puppet" the possibility of being not only an extension of the attacks, but in some cases also an alternative move for the character

    In the case of Ice climbers you cannot damage both by hitting one, but yeah hitting either puts both at a great disadvantage usually. The way they work is that there is the Primary (Popo, the puppeteer) and a Secondary (Nana, the puppet). Popo is technically the fighter here and if he dies Nana loses too and respawns with him later. Nana is the puppet and if you manage to kill her then Popo is left alone (I think till he dies, or maybe just for a long while before she respawns I don't remember) and the single Ice Climber specials are just too weak and combos almost inexistent. Both function almost identically as characters though and they are hardly different. Their only differences are ofc who you have to KO, the fact that the Puppet always starts her moves some frames later and some moves like Grab and up-B (I think only Popo can Grab and Nana just sits and watches, also in up-B Popo will always go the highest).
    In short they are almost the same character 2 times and the second attacks some frames later. They take damage just as two isolated characters would except Nana cannot act if Popo can't either (but her attacks don't get cancels if they started beforehand) and you have to KO Popo to beat them, though if you KO Nana, Popo becomes useless and technically should instantly lose. (Also Nana has her own "healthbar" or percentage but it is hidden)

      Though, it is funny that Chipp Zanuff's Gamma blade has this property of "hitting one of them means hitting them both" because Chipp's clone can transfer damage to Chipp when he gets hit 💀

      Nana only respawns with Popo. A hige part of the match up is how to deal with Nana. As a duo they have the most destruction punish game in what ever game they are in(skill varies from title to title on execution) but Popo Solo(Sopo) value varies. In Ult he is just a normal character and loses his unique punish game.
      In Brawl he loses infinites on the cast and only gets prolonged combos on the cast(ICs is worse for brawl then Meta Knight imo)
      And in Melee he is shy of mid tier likely would be king of low tier if Sopo was an option.

      also notably, Nana isn’t only a puppet.
      Nana only mirrors Popo’s attacks when icies are ‘synced’ - that is, close together and moving as one unit, but you can also influence what she does when they icies are ‘desynced’.
      there are two main types of these desyncs: voluntary and involuntary.
      the latter case is the interesting distinction: if Popo or Nana gets hit, an AI will take control of the puppet and move the character around on its own. in that case, it’s not a puppet, you’re literally bringing in a CPU to fight on your team (you’ve lost all control)
      the voluntary desync stuff is where you get them to stop mirroring each other AND you retain control of Nana, which is when they start playing more like a traditional duo fighter, with nuts combos and extreme amounts of pressure.

    I think the reason why Zato's.....symbiote, is named Eddie, is because it's a reference to Eddie Brock, the human host of marvel character Venom, it's not a coincidence that GG also have a character named Venom that is closely tied to Zato and Eddie

      It's also a reference to the iron maiden mascot Eddie since GG is very heavy on the rock references

      Both Eddie and Venom are metal references, Eddie to Iron Maiden and Venom to the band with the same name. Most GG stuff is a reference to hard rock/metal bands

    I’m amazed that there’s a video of duo/puppet characters that don’t mention ms fortune from Skullgirls. Granted it’s literally different parts of the same character. But even at a competitive level. If the cat head is behind the opponent it’s pretty bad news for them

    Something I'm not sure you knew about kohaku and hisui tag character is that they actually have a few moves removed in their tagged in state. Their solo characters have more moves that are accessible

    In fg my favorites are Carl blazblue and zato.
    Im not that good with them but the concept of doing combos with two characters at the same time is really cool

      most skullgirls character fall under multiple archetypes and most people do agree she is a puppet character. You control her head seperately from the body and both can be individually attacked. Functionally it's hardly different than carl activating his puppet in cf.

      @@aleflippy1997 in headless stance she does actually function somewhat like a puppet character. She's kind of a mix between neco mech from mbaacc where you can hit the head to make it a projectile, while still having more traditional puppet moves on the head. But skullgirls characters in general don't always cleany fit into one archetype.

    I think Afi & Galu are currently my favorite character duo. Its both tag team and puppet. You can only actively play as one totem at a time, and yet the inactive totem left on stage can still be interacted with by both teammate and enemy. You can swap at any time, this being especially useful in a platform fighter instead of most standard fighters.

      Essentially speaking, with two entirely different aspect characters, i.e one fast one slow, you can get confused very fast at who you initially control before activating the Inf. Storm

    to be fair melty's maids have special moves where the maid that is not tagged in will attack. Old melty is also interesting here, with maids having 3 different moons/moveset variations, F-moon for example having a specific meter for assists, as well as Neco arc & Mech hisui, where the characters can't tag each other out but Mech hisui can attack Neco arc to make her become a projectile as well as commanding her to shower the opponent with a laser beam which hisui can use for light pressure. Then there's also Kohaku & Mech Hisui who also can't tag each other out but with a Kohaku lead where she also gets to keep her command grab, which she doesnt in her regular maid lead.
    I am very saddened with how dnf duel turned out, enchantress made me unbelievably hyped for the game.
    Also first time I heard someone use Stand character as an archetype, which I think is really smart, considering p4 arena also exists.

    7:51 Correction: Nana and Popo have their own health bars. The disadvantage is that they’re very weak on their own and can’t recover without each other, and it’s very easy to get rid of Nana. If Popo dies, they both die.

    This was a great video to create and very well done. It was thoroughly researched, well thought out, engaging with its visuals and sound, and you can feel your enthusiasm during the video. This content is amazing and deserves the attention it’s getting. The only thing that ever turned me off was bringing up the strange old 2000’s rhythm game, that might turn others off the video, but it was a stylistic choice that did fit well with your points though. I really enjoyed the video and only ever had that one gripe with it, and it was just a difference in mainstream vs a niche game. Anyways, I loved the video. Keep up the great work!

    7:08 the watering pot is also unblockable if held down, so its a great knowledge checking tool to beat opponents who don’t know when to release their blocking stance and use shield at the right moment

    though in my honest opinion i would for the most part consider puppet and stand characters the same, just having slightly different properties depending on the context. using jojo as an example, many stands can operate at a very long distance and some don't reflect damage back to the user

    Borderline busted in 4. In Ult she's low tier just by making Rosa weaker without Luma and by making Luma easier to kill (not directly, but the game's core systems did that).

      I would say no because the servants can't move without her picking them up or kicking them. If you compare her to zato you can see how much he relies on eddie as the puppet

    I see no functional difference between tag team characters and stance characters

      One thing I was supposed to mention is that tag team characters can sometimes use their partner as an assist (hisui can use kohaku as an assist and vice versa) , this is something stance characters can’t do
