    Sad that we live in a world where irresponsible drivers can blame car companies for their distracted driving. All these safety features wouldn't be necessary if people focused on driving instead of their silly social media accounts.

    Hello guys. I got my 2018 Tacoma about 3 weeks ago and the same dealer did a 3" lift for me, I don't have any issues with the safety sensors. Mostly I want lift for better, little more aggressive look, and if I get in the snow or mud sometimes it's always helps. Thanks and Happy New Year!!!

    • @ericperry7575
      @ericperry7575 6 лет назад +1

      Your lift is going to be on the dealership to repair if it causes problems. But Toyota will not cover anything as the manufacturer. Toyota does not stand behind after market non factory approved modifications to your vehicle. The only factory modification I know of is a Bilstien or Fox shock absorber set up. But ride height remains the same. I’ve learned all this through experience. Plus working their has certain perks.

    • @Soknik01
      @Soknik01 6 лет назад +1

      Bill Walther unless you expect to NEED a lifted vehicle on a regular basis it doesn't make much sense to alter the trucks stock ride height as it makes the truck considerably worse in a number of ways. With a 3" lift on a tacoma you really need to take a careful look at cv joint/boot angles and check to make sure they arent ripping. Also you gotta see if you need aftermarket uca's etc etc...
      Next you've got fuel economy, or in the case of lifted trucks- reduced fuel economy. All that aside, the single biggest reason to avoid lifting a truck comes down to safety, both yours and that of the drivers who are unfortunate enough to have to share the road with raised trucks. Driving a lifted truck makes many people feel quite safe and gives them a sense of security when on the road. The truth however is that reality doesn't give two shits about someone's delusional feelings about safety. Those who are either driving or riding in a lifted truck are statically significantly more likely to die on the road than a person driving or riding in a small passenger car, and it's not hard to see why. The majority of potential automobile accidents offer a driver a short window of time to react and avoid an accident once they recognize a dangerous situation. Wheather or not the accident is actually avoided comes down to two basic things - The drivers split second reaction time and his vehicles ability to successfully meet the often extreme demands placed upon it during high angle directional changes at speed , under maximum deceleration or more often than not a combination of the two. Modern passenger cars are seriously agile little machines even the inexpensive ones. With their relatively low mass and a low center of gravity their ability to quickly change speed and direction at a moments notice means that in the hands of a decent driver, passenger cars can often weasel out of a shit storm that would have been unavoidable for a truck or suv. Being at the mercy of the laws of physics, trucks with their greater mass and higher center of gravity are to put it mildly, unstable when changing direction or under heavy breaking. Lifting a truck just a few inches decreases it's stability and breaking performance in a big way. If the truck has larger than stock tires or any one of various other aftermarket options common to lifted vehicles then the geometry of the suspension has been changed which unless carefully accounted for leaves the vehicle at yet another increased disadvantage in the accident avoidance department. There's nothing on the road more likely to roll over while driving than a raised vehicle. If that doesn't concern you, it should. While less than 3% of accidents in the US involve a rollover a staggering 35% of all passenger vehicle fatalities are a result of being inside a vehicle that didn't remain upright during an accident.
      Also you've got the rest of the world to take into consideration. Ever have a lifted truck behind you or coming towards you while driving at night? If so then you know the meaning of the words "driving blind", as their headlights have been elevated to absolute motherfucker status.
      Another thing to tak3 note of-
      When a lifted truck impacts another vehicle or pedestrian the chances of the accident ending in one or more fatalities shoots way up because the trucks center of mass has been raised up closer to the skulls of everyone else on the road.
      Like I said, if you NEED a lifted truck for a good reason then maybe you're comfortable with the trade off and increased risk. However, if you are choosing to lift your truck because "looks fucking cool, am I right?!", that just doesn't make a whole lot of sense from where I'm sitting.
      For the record I am the proud owner of a 2005 4x4 tacoma access cab with a little over 200,000 miles on the odometer. I'm an avid fan of the great outdoors and so I frequently find myself relying on my truck to get me to places where cars just can't go. This tacoma has driven over or through every God damned thing I've ever pointed it at and not once have I found myself in a situation where I thought "if only I had lifted my truck!".

    Just bought a '18 TRD Pro. Eventually doing a King Complete Kit with compression adjustable shocks. Will be running a 33" diameter aggressive AT. Spoke to my dealership here in Fort Collins,Co and said it will be no issue with warranty being preserved. However I mentioned what Toyota advised and said it will not void warranty as long as it is done by the dealership, however yes I did see it myself where they advised they do not recommend due to the TSS. We shall see when I do this in the near future. Thanks for the video!!

    • @CoelhoSports

      and they are also telling dealers not to lift trucks. you have to do it yourself or pay an unsanctioned lifter to lift it, which gives them an excuse to blame anything they can on the lift to avoid warranty repairs. even if the problem is not lift related, they still could refuse to touch it because there is a lift on it that they will not touch in the process of doing other repairs. all that chip reprogramming people do also is guaranteed to void the warranty so having a non-toyota service tech recalibrate the safety sense will also cause warranty issues. the safety sense features are meant to help avoid accidents, so as the toyota lawyers are probably preemptively trying to fend off the obligatory lawsuits from people blaming toyota for accidents that safety sense was somehow expected to prevent. if you don't plan on suing toyota for accidents that are your fault, it shouldn't effect your plans to lift. i would suspect the one real world issue of lifting a safety sense truck would be all those alarms constantly going off for no reason and possibly brakes activating involuntarily because the lift affects the sensor angle making objects in front and to the sides seem closer than they are.

    The day you recorded this video, I was out on the lot picking out my Taco (TRD Sport 4x4,) it has all those features you mentioned.
    I just got a 2" leveling kit on it yesterday, and made sure to test out all the features on my way home... they seem to work just fine... if anything it dramatically improved the way my taco looks... it looks like a friggin' beast!
    If anything, the distance between the front car and mine improved a little with the automatic distance/ speed cruise control.
    I'm looking to get 33" tires for it, so it's going to lift it a little more. I really don't see it as being much of a problem, unless you're pulling up to a little rice rocket that sits so low to the ground, it looks like a dog buttscooting... then i can see how the sensors wouldn't detect it... still, it works fine for me with that little 2" push

    The Toyota dealers in AZ sell new Tacoma off roads with installed aftermarket lift kits, suspensions, larger tires, etc with no impact on the safety features. They even have the speedometer and computer re-calibrated for larger tires. The only downside to aftermarket mods is the blind spot monitors won't work in after market metal bumpers because of the metal interference.

    These new Safety features do not work properly at the height they are at! So far I've noticed that the adaptive cruise control is the best as far as functionality! The automatic headlight dimmer work a bit too late. From what I'm hearing none of the crash or pedestrian sensors work well! So you might as well jack it up if you got the buck!

    I have a problem with all these new 'safety' sensors that all vehicle manufactures are putting on their vehicle, especially on how it relates to us off-roaders. In many, if not most cases, you have no option but to accept these features on your vehicle when you buy them new. I suspect what will arise is when one of us is involved in an accident and the insurance lawyers learn that your modifications may have decreased the effectiveness of the OEM safety features, (even slightly), that you will be liable for all damages, even if you didn't cause the accident. Count on this happening in the future. Insurance company's and their lawyers will push in court that any modifications that effect OEM safety features will place all blame on the vehicle modifier.

    • @Tacomaholic

    Bounced back and forth if I should buy or not and then finally walked away and down the street to a Toyota dealer to see a tunrda.
    Hate at first sight lol
    The Titan was cool but just shitty resale a d shitty fuel plus parts are spendy!
    But I looked around and saw an orange Tacoma TRD and I said I'll take it! Sign me up quick before I change my mind. I got it for 3400 off MSRP.
    No trade in and financed thru my bank.
    I was in and out in a good 4 hours.
    But I was happy. They were busy that day.
    To be honest I didn't even know about any special features till the salesmen did the delivery.
    I just asked him to turn it all off.

    Honestly it’s always been any manufactures policy that they will not stand behind aftermarket modifications on their vehicles. Toyota is not alone in that regard. If your dealership does it they are liable. If you take it to a shop they are responsible. Toyota or any other manufacturer washes their hands of your vehicle at the point in which it’s modified against their recommendations. And Toyota does say we do not recommend altering any of the vehicles because it may affect how the safety features work. This goes from the lane departure system to the tire pressure sensors to the entire braking system (hydraulics and electronics) as well as the steering. It even includes drive line and power train components. It’s a cover their ass thing. As the manufacturer they do not recommend it but once you buy it it’s up to you. Don’t expect them to fix it if what you changed /modified broke it.

    • @Tacomaholic
      @Tacomaholic  6 лет назад

      Yep, even when vehicles are specifically designed for something like offroading or racing, the manufacturer will find any excuse to void a warranty if it's modified.

    FYI, it is illegal in NC to raise a vehicle above the original factory specifications. Probably in other states as well, I don't know. It's just not enforced much or known by law enforcement. It should be enforced, some that I see on the roads are ridiculous and dangerous.

    • @Tacomaholic
      @Tacomaholic  6 лет назад

      There are a ton of laws that like that are usually only enforced if you are doing something else to get a cop's attention. Agreed that those super lifted trucks are a bit crazy. Vehicles lifted to the point where the hood of a regular sized car can slide under the lifted vehicle (and probably decapitate the passengers) would probably get noticed quickly by the police.

They cover the stock version which does include premium packages but because the lift is after market as well as the wheels and tires, I had addendum to my policy. So if anything happens...I'm covered.

    Does any manufacturer "recommend" lifting their vehicles?
    No, but EVERY tranny shop in your town does! There is one in my humble abode of Grantsville UT, and guess what fills his lot and garage? LIFTED trucks. Why, because few lift products or manufacturers take drive systems/alignment into consideration and most lifts dork up the dynamics of said systems. If you regularly off-road and NEED 3-6" lift, great, just keep an eye on your tranny and drive - if not, try something a little less radical - I used Bilstien 5100 adjustables on the front of my Tacoma and FJ Cruiser with a 2" AAL on the rear of the Taco and a 1.5" spacer on the back of the FJ providing minimal potential for failure.

      No one drives a mechanical unicorn. But some vehicles are more reliable than others. Sadly, these Tacomas used to be in that category.

    Really tho if you think about it
    Do you need your vehicle to turn the high beams off , I think any decent human being should know this or if A pedestrian is near your truck
    By the sounds of it a lot of these censors on the truck people can do without and if you really need these censors then you shouldn’t be behind the wheel of a vehicle anyway so disable the censors and lift your truck
    I agree with you Toyota is just covering their ass
    Because we all know that moron that’s gonna hit someone and say “ well my truck didn’t tell me someone was standing in front of me” and try to to sue them
