Dramless controller (well It has about 2mb ram on the controller) wd green and blue are basically the same ssd as both are dramless and should be avoided
It could be better if they sell it in that form factor instead regular 2.5" size.
Its called a standard size form factor, it's that size for a reason.
Then u won't be able to use it in your Sata Port
Actually, they put it in that size because traditional HDD uses a solid 2.5" drive bay. If you hated idea of a 2.5" HDD or SSD you can go get yourself a laptop with NVME SSD support since it is much more slimmer and compact. Also if that thing is made around that size, it might make a rattle sound inside the drive bay.

Bro even in 500gb WD Blue ssd the size is same inside but you don't have to worry about it because the quality will be always good.
i did something simular with the exact same SSD me and my friend (he has one in his pc) took my WD Green 120gb and opened it as it was from my old PC that caught on fire and it was small as that
Same here, This SSD is broken too. The Sandisk labeled controller chip is becoming too hot when I power it up.
And the sad thing is, I don't find any datasheet of it.

thats because it is 2.5 inch SSD which can be used to replace 2.5 inch HDD slots in laptops or desktops as they use same connecting pins.
Fun thing is that I have this SSD in my work notebook(nothing important to save there as this is for my car obd diagnostic unit). It survived -25 freezing, few drops(of course it is). Has zero errors and it's still working. 5 years already.
Ssds are just more reliable than hard drives. they can go through a lot

I'm actually suprised that they made effort and made a Seperate Small PCB and Design rather than Making a Full Size PCB and simply populating only necessary amount of chips and Upload appropriate Firmware
That way they Can save a Lot of Engineering and Setup Cost for Designing and Setup and there are products with similar design choice but maybe not Economically feasible on the smallest Size

And you buy a ssd to usb converter from Amazon. Using like that for years. Its much smaller . I have a 3d printer. I made a box for it. Ssd and usb converter.
well almost all brands of SSDs of similar specs and quality are basically look the same inside.. they just sometimes vary on the brands of memories and controllers used.

WD belongs to SanDisk so it's normal that has SanDisk components.
More like WD bought SanDisk, who partnered with Toshiba to make nand ( flash memory) factory , so SanDisk can put their name of Toshiba band chips.

Whoa. Was not expecting the storage components to be so... tiny! Kind of like that hdd's, you'rr able to just pop a few screws off with a T5 bit (iirc) and access the physical components. Though it's unadviseable. Nice for attempting a quick fix to save data from a defective hdd tho.
They really make it difficult to get into those ssd's. So, by the looks of it and for lack of better wording/understanding, it's basically RAM storage? 🤔

Разумеется. На 120 гигов маленькая плата и 4 чипа памяти. На 200 может быть такая же, просто более емкие чипы, а 500 под вопросом, а вот от терабайта полюбому куда больше плата и больше чипов. А в такой коробке такая маленькая плата, потому что есть стандарт 2.5, иначе все на говно изойдутся: тут один размер, тут другой и бла бла бла. Хочешь накопитель меньше, приобретай м2. А так, у кого какие возможности, тот такие платы и делает

This is why m.2 actually isn't all that impressive as a physical form factor. The direct PCI-e lanes is the big deal there.
I have this same ssd but mine is 256gb variant
so the drive is sanddisk because the nand is from sanddisk . i thought western digital is big enough to make their own nand flash chips like Samsung and sk hynix do. calm on guys even teamgroup makes its own chips

@@GERALD_786 it isnt that big case is the exact size of a hdd counterpart and these ssds were supposed to be a replacement for hdd so they were made that big to be able to fit on the same case
It’s because the size of the nand has grew over the years so they require less components an older one of the same memory size could be a full board bc it has more nand
The purpose is to replace the mechanical hdd of laptops and to reduce weight

Mam dysk SSD marki SanDisk i w środku jest bardzo podobny do tego. Obudowa z zewnątrz też podobna poza naklejką.
Też mam i nie wiem czym autor się podnieca.... pewnie myślał że płytka pcb będzie tak duża jak obudowa
