Honestly, Mattel needs to make MORE dolls that look like the Barbie Extra Fancies, particularly the pink one with the long ponytail. It's something both adult collectors AND kids could like.

I'm an older Barbie collector and actually was born on the exact day Barbie was first marketed. So I call myself the original Barbie 😄🤣🙃😇 For me Barbie needs to bring back the old classic styles and quality. This can be up to the early 2000s. But I really love the dolls from the much older eras. It's very sad what Mattel has done to Barbie and the lack of love and care they put into the dolls now. I used to run to see the new dolls when they came out. Now I don't even really look at them when I walk down the doll isles. Sometimes I just snort and think to myself how not worth it they have become when I see them. The only ones I am interested in these days are the Retro Silkstones but they are nearly impossible to obtain; so I don't usually buy Barbie at all anymore. I'm looking into other brands to purchase now to replace them. However, nothing can replace the older magic of Barbie, and I wish Mattel cared more about collectors who want quality dolls instead of mass marketing cheap undesirable dolls that no one but very young children or newer collectors, would want. Now, I am not making fun or or putting down people who buy the new dolls. If they are happy, that's is what matters for them. I'm just saying that for those of us who loved the older dolls of quality, we aren't happy these days with Barbie :( :(

I grew up with Barbie as a kid, and my favorites were always the ones based on the Barbie movies with the amazing ballgowns that I had as a kid (my family's blue heeler unfortunately did a Barbie Doll Massacre as a puppy so I do not have most of my childhood Barbies anymore.). But I feel like Barbie's quality has really gone downhill to the point where I don't feel like buying them anymore. I feel like once I got into MH in 2013, I never looked back at Barbie or seriously collected them anymore. Now, I feel like SH and RH, despite the higher price point, has really stolen my heart and I that I have abandoned my former Mattel Stan position that I used to have back when I mostly collected MH and its spinoff lines.

I would love it if Barbie release a line like the Barbie extra/looks with actual in style clothes like the fashionista. I never understood why adding diversity had to be unfashionable. It really under-minded the diversity factor for me to The point they were buyable. Also they never did anything with all the characters. I want them to fix that too .Barbie should at least be able to talk to all these other Barbies that are popping up in her world.😂

    • @psychotophatcat
      @psychotophatcat Год назад +2

You have a good point about the diversity being unfashionable! I really really wish their fashion packs were actually cute. I understand that they have to make things fit a variety of body shapes now, but honestly, the doll bodies are not so different that they couldn't just incorporate a wider strip of Velcro or snaps instead that can make the clothing fit the dolls no matter what their size. I don't understand why that seems to be such an impossible task. They keep making these shapeless printed clothes that I get excited about for a split second before I see them up close. What I thought was a tiny pastel denim jacket is just a thin piece of polyester with denim texture printed on it. If MGA can make actual denim jackets and embroider clothing, why on Earth can Mattel not do that too?

90s and early 2000s barbies are the best! The quality of playline dolls back then was better than collector quality is now. The nutcracker barbie from 2001, the princess and the pauper dolls, you can't get that kind of quality now. There was real ribbons used, real beads, real embroidery, non of this printed on cheaply made stuff. None of these cheap fabrics that feel like they're from a knock off brand. I have a massive doll collection with dolls from all kinds of lines and multiple years. I have some of the newer dolls too, I usually buy them for their faces, and the clothes barely get used in comparison to the older clothes. I tend to save my money up for the older dolls I buy second hand. Or occasionally the bratz and RH/SH dolls. Mainly old barbies though. They will always hold a special place for me and I never run out of dolls to love from those bygone days. I honestly can't pick a favorite barbie, because even though there are alot of them I loved just the way they were, some became favorites just because of how much time spent with them and loved them. The mystery squad line, generation girls line, the movie dolls, especially the older ones, the Jam N Glam dolls, the birthday, Christmas and Easter dolls, the Cali girl line, the happy family line, the og fashionistas, plus all the random things they did, like jello barbie, or kool aid barbie, or picture Pockets barbie, there's just so many doll lines from then that I absolutely loved and I'm trying to get as many as I can. The newer barbies don't hold a candle to them. There are some pretty ones, but not in the same league as the older ones. It's sad that mattel doesn't think kids today would want dolls like we all grew up with. That they can just throw something cheaply made at kids and call it a day. But most of those dolls end up getting tossed because they're making the hair quality worse and with the bodies being so stiff and hollow kids break them much easier and the hair gets tangled and then the dolls are thrown away instead of being loved and cherished for years to come. I still have dolls I got when I was 2 and they're still in beautiful condition, if they were the kind of quality dolls are now, they wouldn't have lasted. It's just sad. Everyone's suggestions on how to make barbie better are exactly right. I wish mattel would take those suggestions and use them.

Barbie has always been for kids, I don’t think that was ever not a thing for kids. But I do understand what you’re saying about the quality of the dolls. I don’t think that Barbie is having a downfall but I do think that the fashionista dolls could be more creative with the fashion and have more articulation. Barbie is always gonna change with the times that’s just how she’s survived for so long. But I don’t think that Barbie will every go away tbh and It’s still a big doll brand. I think that the fashionistas was a great idea and it clearly did ok because they’re still pumping out dolls. But I do hope that Mattel puts more money into the dolls for more articulation and quality in the fits.

But I hate that Barbie and Chelsea are trapped in their outfits, and I want possable dolls to play with.

We also need the spinoffs (Shani, So In Style, My Scene, and Generation Girl), and when it comes to one shot Barbie friends I want Tara Lynn, Melody and Simone from Modern Circle, Nia, and Miko back. Nia and Miko would especially be important because they were both indigenous characters: Nia was native American, and Miko was Hawaiian.
Also want Kayla back, but this time we should make Kayla one race. Remember how Kayla was never the same race. One doll she'd be ambiguous with a tan implying Latina, some sort of unknown Asian, Indian, Southeast Asian, or mixed, then next she'd be black, then next she'd be literally Irish, and she had a Fairytopia mermaid doll where she was BLONDE. Let's be consistent if she comes back.
Also want the rockers. Maybe even Barbie's Brazilian friends Viky, Diva (not Rockers Diva), Lia, Lara, and Deborah.
Most of you have no idea who I'm talking about and I never knew they existed, as I'm canadian, but Brazilians definitely could tell you about those girls.
P.S. What's interesting about Brazl is how they excluded the POC in every version they had (Dana was Korean and Dee dee was black) and how in one version Derek was called Bob for some reason

I grew up with late 90s, 2000s, and early 2010s Barbie. Barbie used to mimic the fashions of the time but with a campy twist that is still palatable. Barbie has always been stiff even with those rubber bend n snap knees. I never cared for them so I loved the Fashionistas line. Poseable and easy to dress.
Having worked in the toy industry, I understand why the changes. It’s not political or being too girly/ lack of pink. It’s about saving money to produce the dolls and their main demographic: children ages 10 & under. So those t-shirt dresses, bold patterns, and fantasy fairytales are the norm. I wish Barbie will do adult fashions of today. Todays fashion is so broad and the makeup are insane! It sad that we don’t see it being reflected in play line or collector dolls. If Mattel does decides to put the quality back the dolls would be way more expensive. So the question is are ppl willing to pay $30- $35 for a Fashionista doll?

What I most miss about Barbie, is the lack of quality in their doll clothing. I’ve noticed a huge change in how the dolls are now sold. So what I started doing is buying dolls from the late 90s and the early to mid 2000s. They had the best clothing, outfits and accessories. Mattel needs to go back to that.

I had joy your video but the only thing that really bothers me when it comes to this stuff, is the fact that people say these new dolls are for a different generation and they are for kids. All Barbie dolls have been for kids. All play lion Barbie dolls have been for children. Yes style has changed but Barbie can do diversity and different body types while still having glamour. And quality. Mattel is just comfortable with being cheap because they are riding off the legacy that is Barbara Millicent Roberts.

I grew up with Barbie during the 90s and yeah, I think she was at her best during that era. So many beautiful dolls that were well worth their price for the quality. I feel like Barbie has really dropped in quality in recent years. It's sad to see, but I like that Mattel is still trying. I actually did buy one of the recent Barbie extra dolls and they're very pretty. I wish Mattel would stick with that quality rather than sticking to the cheaper methods they've been using. One thing I do like about the new barbies is that they're trying to use different colors for hair. Back in the day it was always the usual natural hair colors. So Barbies with purple or blue hair is nice to see. But yeah it's sad to see this doll line fall like it has because they need to cater to kids. We all might be adults but I'd absolutely LOVE it if they brought back some of the older Barbies like the Jewel Mermaid from '97.

  • @michaelburns2003
    @michaelburns2003 Год назад +3

Honestly peachY I think the " catering to the younger generation" is bullshit, but not to you. I'm 19 & I never liked Barbie becouse I never really had any, so I don't care for her but I don't think " modern" needs to be done with a doll. A doll isn't 8 year Chelsea, they are caricatures & as such, there meant to be seen as " otherworldly ". There meant to be superman Del's, not the girl next door. The creators of Barbie don't care what they do because " if it had the Barbie stamp on it, it will sell" & whilst that is true, how are you doing Barbra the respect she deserves? The doll that's lasted 60+ years & is still being sold nowadays? They need to be more like what MGA are doing. That's why I think that MGA should own the rights to Barbie becouse the creators of MGA are smart. They KNOW Barbie has a huge fan base & they KNOW that owning Barbie would litteraly make them unstoppable. They'd be the equivalent of a god in the doll industry, but obviously that isn't going to happen....so they need to STEP TGE FUCK UP!! PUT IN THOSE PINK PLASTIC PLATFORMS, OUT ON THE SLINKY SEAQUINED DRESS & STRUT THE MOTHER FUCKING RUNWAY!! Bring the 2010 Barbie back, becouse she ate & left no crumbs but include the diversity of 2018 " Barbie"

I get and absolutely agree with having body types other than svelte and thin. Lpve that. Same with having dolls that are not focused on fashion. But I think for the "fashion is sexualization and consumerist" thing , we should have those and normal dolls. And you can make the outfits look good without being "fashion". These outfits are all ugly. Also the dolls are such low quality. Less cartoonist, exaggerated, "sexy" dolls shouldn't mean low quality.
Also miss how every barbie friend used to have a name. Now anyone outside of the main group has no name. Like in the old days even one time friends had names. Modern Circle Melody, Western Fun Nia, Western Stamping Tara Lynn, etc. Now it's a blank slate which is fun if you want to name them whatever you want but they also lack an identity because of that.
And I wish of course that Midge, Grace, Christie and Summer would come back I also want Kira and Lea to come back. Kira was the first Asian to not be a one shot character and I am still salty she never appeared in any movie, even the ones from the early 2000s when she was mostly gone, but also had a brief comeback for one Fashion Fever doll. Also Lea. They were not only Asian but they weren't the common Chinese Japanese Korean, they were Vietnamese and Macanese respectively, two underrepresented Asian groups.

Could you talk about the history of Barbie's friends. Make several videos.
A history of black Barbie friends.
    Asian barbie friends
    Latina Barbies
    White barbie friends
    Other poc friends
    Spinoff characters
Foreign exclusive friends (Brazil, Mexico, Japan, Europe, etc)
There are many sites with notes on these characters.
    A few heads up though
The Rockers and the Sensations: Bopsy, Belinda, and Becky are Dana, Diva, and Derek, just renamed. As shown in the cartoon where they go by their original names.
Raquelle isn't Asian, that was a headcanon that the internet took as canon. She was just a white woman with black hair. Her eyes were not the shape used for Asian dolls, her eyes were usually huge like the white characters including in dreamhouse, she had blue eyes before dreamhouse, and she debuted in diaries as a white redhead, looking irish if anything.
Kayla from the 2000s as I mentioned was multiple races so mention her in multiple videos.
In every poc video include movie characters.
Janessa from Thumbelina is filipino so she can be in the Asian friends.
    Nikki and Christie are sisters.
Nikki's last name is O'Neill, not Watkins. They changed it for dreamhouse adventures.
Tammy from Dreamhouse adventures is the Asian bully not Raquelle, and was raquelles replacement.
Summer is Australian. They portrayed her as American in the cartoon.
Mamy characters wree renamed internationally: Kira was called Marina, Miko was also Marina I think, Whitney was called Laura for one doll, in Brazil Tara Lynn was called Tina
Some characters wete reused in multple lines, even spinoff ones: Kenzie from My Scene was reused in Mystery Squad, Grace was put in the main line for a bit, Simone from Modern Circle was reused in the American idol line.
Before Nikki O'Neill, there was Nikki Tan from Animal lovin, an Asian.
Renee was originally Japanese when she was first introduced in Spy Squad, but was changed to Chinese in dreamhouse adventures.
Teresa played multiple movie characters, so Fairy Queen, Queen rayla from Magic of Pegasus, Alexa, Viveca, Hadley from charm school, Erika from rock n royals, etc are Latina.
Everyone in Video Game Hero should be in the Asian doll video since they were japanese coded characters.

Speaking of Barbie I bet the hardest ones to find are Barbie and rockers I thought the vibe of them be metal goth singers kick ass even for the cartoon also they had limited Edition Barbie in Star Trek uniforms! Plus I think the reason we have Cutie Reveals are more towards us adult collectors and catering to the Furry Fandom why else would they have them dress up in fursuits of their favorite animal ! 🐲🐲🐲

The cutie reveal dolls seem to be selling really well to children because of the fun animal themes. I think that this was their way to compete against MGA's NaNaNa animal themed dolls.

For me, a 2000-2010 years Barbie was the best dolls even made, especially Princess and the Pauper. Now is just a political correct toy, who put more energy in "inclusive" looks. I've seen a Barbie rewind 80's dolls, but these are only a imagination, how retro Barbie should look, not a authentic retro Barbie.

Barbie’s over 60 years old. Of course she has to change for new generations of kids - it’s not just happened in the last 20 years!

@@Tundrea3 Well maybe you’re right. The new beach playline has a real clothes not painted one and also it’s articulated. How I wish barbie will slowly go back to it’s roots where she always standout among the other dolls.
